Hilton Birmingham Downtown at UAB

The hotel was clean and in a great location for the reason I was in Birmingham. It was near to the event that I was attending. The sink in my room had a stopper that prevented the water from escaping when I did not want it to collect in the sink during activities such as brushing my teeth and washing my face. The water was also cold and took an excessively long time to heat up even a little bit. It was not even lukewarm. Therefore, I checked out and was unable to shower. My son actually took a cold shower on a cold day, one of the coldest that we have had in Alabama in a while. I was also awakened by an emergency message and alarm to vacate the building due to an emergency only to learn later that it was a test. I learned this when the fire truck arrived and I heard an employee apologizing for not calling them to let them know that it was only a test. I only stayed overnight so there was no other opportunity for me to get a better impression. The only reason that I did not give a lower rating for the facilities is because once I reported the issue with the shower and sink, they sent a handy man to the room to make the repairs, but my son was already taking a cold shower at the time since we were scheduled to get back home to meet previously scheduled obligations. The staff person who was checking me out said that she couldn't do anything for me because I booked through a third party. However, she did state that she would refund the money that I paid for parking.

Everything was fine other than the shuttle. On arrival I called at 10:20 PM and was told that the shuttle only runs until 10:30 and they could not send it. Fair enough. The next day I called at 11:45 AM asking for a ride to the airport between 12-12:15 PM. I was told that the shuttle had left at 11:30 and the next one would not leave until 1:05 PM. I’m sorry but you should not advertise a shuttle if you have a 95 minute interval for an airport that is 6.5 miles away. I spent about $45 on Ubers and tips as a result.

I hosted my staff midyear retreat at the hotel and Ms Gloria Huggins was the representative who assisted me. She was courteous and went above and beyond to make sure we were taken care of.

I was very pleased from being picked up from the airport & the surrounding grounds was very pristine. Front desk was very professional & inviting everyone was very pleasant, I was also pleased with the refreshing drinks near the lobby/elevators. Who real made made my morning was Ms Erica she actually took the time & listened to my concerns. Being a Pescatarian, traveling is sometimes hard to find something to eat & I thank her for her outstanding customer service. .

Check out was lengthy. Our room wasn’t ready for hours. Thank goodness for Towanda! She really made sure we got a room down the hall from our family members. This was interesting - it took several hours to “find” us a clean room, although we’d booked months ago, while a couple of another race requested/demanded a different room because the air was “broken.” They didn’t seem to have nearly the time we had getting a room. The rooms themselves were decent. The whole hotel could be cleaner, but it was okay. The bed was comfortable.
