Iberostar Selection Bávaro Suites

Me and my husband just recently returned from our vacation we spent in Iberostar Selection Bavaro Suites for 6 nights. It was our first experience to stay in Iberostar and the reason we choose this property because it is IHG managed property (and IHG has a very high standards in matter of guests satisfaction). We have to confess... This property has a Zero Management and almost Zero Service! At all. To me it is a worst one IHG property I ever stayed in my entire life: 1) Reseption. If you do not want to have your day and mood completely ruined, do not even try to stop there. Just passed by and find someone elses to help you with your issue. We had some situations we needed their assistance, and never received it - during check in they provided us with the wrong room type, so we back to reception to solve it. Our bottle opener was broken into the room and we wait for 3 dais when someone come to fix it. We asked reception to assist us with restaurants reservation but they said no and sent us to consierge who did not provide us with accurate information. People at the reseption are looking super boring, super unprofessional. They do not even try to speak English. My husbang is a very good Spanish speaker, but if not, highly likely, you will face a lot of difficulties with understanding. We felt sooooo tired of luck of compethency people from reception on conserge as well. They do not know their own product, it is an absolute chaose! 2) Restaurants - additionally, besides of Main Buffet restaurant, we visited steak hause, Japanese and Greek one. Steak house is very good one - great and tasty food, nice beverages and atmosphere overall. We did not understood the concept of Japanese restaurant - there is no menu available. You have to eat what they serve for you - it is a couple of rolls, one sushi and something elese small. You will be watching some show from the cheef how to cook rice, vegetables and meet along with soy souse. Obviously, after that you will be served to eat it. That's it! I think it would be more correctly to renaime the restaurant to Asian restaurant, so, at least, guests will not have any expectations to eat Ramen, rolls, and try sake. Greek reastaurant - they provided us with 3 courses menue. But as a fact, you can order only one main dish... the question is why no one informed us in advance? Food in main menue and Mexican restaurant was very good. 3) Rooms. We stayed in Tropical Garden Vew Room and it was very good - very spacious, bright, great shower and great bathroom amenities. The only one this was that the bottel opener was broken. WE contacted reception and during 3 days noone came to fix it or provide us with an althernatiove oppener. As I said, reception do not care at all how guests feel themselves. 4) Beach - very beautiful. But when you enteing into the sea, the water is super cloudy and there is a lot of algae. Booking & Check-In: When booking, I specifically requested two separate beds since I was traveling with family. I even called in advance to confirm this detail. Upon arrival, I was told my reservation was for a single king bed. This was not only incorrect but also incredibly frustrating, as it took a long time to get corrected. Room Conditions: The rooms are uncomfortably hot. The air conditioning barely works, even with the fan on high and all doors closed. A foul, sour odor appears frequently around the resort and inside the rooms. While cleaning temporarily reduces it, it always comes back. The shower head was broken, and the toilets barely flushed and were uncomfortable to use due to their awkward design. Everything about the resort feels extremely dated and in need of upgrades. Service, Staff & Communication: The most disappointing part of this stay was the service. Many staff members were dismissive and rude, creating an unwelcoming atmosphere. Requests were often ignored or mishandled. For example, I asked multiple times for silverware for my daughter and never received it. Another time, I requested coffee and milk but was only brought mugs with nothing else. Responses were often a quick “yes” without any follow-through. Getting any service also took forever. Want a drink? Expect to wait 10–20 minutes at the bar, with servers showing little urgency or care. I understand “island time,” but this went beyond that—it felt like the staff simply did not care. I even spoke to other guests who shared the exact same frustrations, so these issues were not unique to us. Resort App & Requests: The resort’s app was essentially useless. When I submitted requests through it—such as a step stool for my child, which was clearly listed as an option—I only received “denied” messages in response. When I tried to resolve it by calling reception, I was transferred five different times before being hung up on. I had to call back again just to get a simple request addressed. When I requested a sofa bed for my child, housekeeping came to set it up but never brought blankets. One issue after another piled up, to the point where I honestly felt like I was living through a bad prank. Unclear Rules & Miscommunication: Throughout the resort, rules and access points were incredibly unclear. For example, when attempting to obtain towels, we were denied without explanation. The staff member refused to actually speak and instead pointed to a chalkboard written entirely in Spanish. When we explained we could not read it, he simply shrugged us off with a dismissive attitude. Only the following day, after finding a different staff member, did we learn there was a 6:00 p.m. cut-off time for towel distribution—something never explained or posted in English. Similarly, upon check-in we were told that our stay included access to the entire Iberostar property, including Bávaro and neighboring resorts. This turned out to be false. We stayed at this hotel and the A/C has been broken since 5pm. We called at 6pm to have it fixed, and now it’s been almost six hours without any technician showing up. In the middle of summer heat, the room is unbearable and impossible to stay in. This level of service is completely unacceptable — the staff clearly do not care about their guests’ comfort.

I have to say, I’m very disappointed with the Prestige service at this resort. Since Tuesday, I’ve been requesting a birthday cake and a dinner reservation for 12 people to celebrate my son’s 16th birthday. Unfortunately, no one ever followed up, and I’m leaving tomorrow with nothing arranged. The resort itself is beautiful, and the setting is lovely, but the customer service—especially at the Prestige level—has been truly underwhelming. For a brand that promises elevated service, this experience was a letdown.
