We travelled from the UK, Glasgow to Birmingham and from there Punta Cana. We travelled this long way as had previously been in Mexico and watched the Macao on the RIU adverts they played before the show and the advert made it look spectacular. Let me start by saying, this an an adults only hotel for a reason......lots of eye opening activity going on, maybe not somewhere you would feel comfortable letting your son and daughter visit. There is no hand sanitizer around the hotel which i was very surprised at, spoke to the rep who said since covid they have relaxed this service? She went and bought me some as mine was running low, lots of hand touching with staff here, also witnessed many not washing hands after toilet so not sure why they aren't concerned people may get sick. Room given on arrival was a bit disappointing, on ground floor even though we had requested a high floor but seemed clean, there patio was more like a basement, a high wall making it private but smelt musty and on more than one occasion had to remove cockroaches from the area, not a very nice area to be sat out in. About a week later we had been chatting to other guests who were raving about their rooms and balcony so that did it, my husband went to reception to request a move, the manager complied but wasn't the friendliest encounter but we got moved to a move nicer room on the 4th floor with a great view so was a delight to be able to sit out minus the cockroaches but we did have some nesting pigeons which i enjoyed watching and feeding. Cleaning was fine, always had fresh towels and full fridge and yes, we tipped every couple of days. The room could be very musty and sometimes taking clothes out the drawers really had a bad smell, what we would maybe do next time is get a wshing done at extra cost so you didnt return home with stinky clothes Food I would say spoiled for choice, not huge menus but enough to be happy with. Sometimes there was a bit of a wait for the restaurants but there was joes bar in between the Italian and steak house and this was a nice place to have a pre dinner drink. Krystal had a lovely position near the sea and the Japanese was inside near reception, all tasty meals. The Cuban bar was a bit fancy but we never spent much time here as the air conditioning was very strong. After a week we started going to the Bavaro due to behaviour of POOL BAR STAFF, even though we did time from time to time that didn't seem good enough, especially the barman called ANGEL and another boy who had full sleeves on under his shirt. I was patiently waiting at the bar only to be ignored, i let this go on for a bit then opened my mouth so get served, ANGEL then proceeded to almost throw the drink at me, i was very annoyed and spoke to my husband about the treatment. he had a word with him and yes, gave him a TIP, we are not Americans and shouldn't be treated as so, we tipped where and when we could but we cant tip every single person, there are tip jars everywhere, even at

Unsafe and Unacceptable Conditions – Beware of Health Risks at Riu Palace Macao I am compelled to share my experience at the Riu Palace Macao to caution other travelers. What was supposed to be a relaxing vacation turned into a serious health concern due to hazardous conditions and poor management. Upon check-in, I was placed in a room that was heavily contaminated with mold. The odor was overwhelming, and visible mold was present on surfaces, raising immediate concerns about respiratory health and overall cleanliness. When I requested a room change, I was moved to another unit that was also mold-infested, with an air conditioning system that was clearly not functioning properly. This created not only an uncomfortable environment but also a significant health danger. Adding to the disappointment, the room provided did not match the details of my original reservation. Instead of the Superior Junior Suite with a single bed that I booked, I was given a room with two full-size beds in unacceptable condition. When I raised these issues with the front desk, I was met with indifference and unhelpful responses. Staff insisted there were no other rooms available and failed to provide a proper solution, leaving me with no choice but to remain in unsafe accommodations late at night after a long day of travel. The lack of accountability, disregard for guest safety, and failure to deliver on promised accommodations are unacceptable for any hotel, let alone one marketed as a luxury resort. Mold exposure can have serious health effects, especially for children, the elderly, or anyone with allergies or asthma. No traveler should be put in a position where their health is compromised due to negligence. I urge anyone considering staying at this property to think twice. Until Riu Palace Macao addresses these hazardous conditions and trains their staff to prioritize guest safety and satisfaction, this hotel cannot be recommended. There are far better options in the area that respect both the well-being and trust of their guests. A Health Hazard, Not a Hotel—Avoid Riu Palace Macao I feel utterly compelled to warn future travelers: Riu Palace Macao is not only a disappointment—it’s a potential health hazard. Mold, Mildew & Dangerous Cleanliness Failings I was appalled to enter a room reeking of mold — an odor so suffocating it became impossible to ignore. Pillows and towels were visibly dirty, far from the luxurious standards promised in the reservation. Despite lodging three separate complaints, nothing changed. This isn’t an isolated incident. Multiple reviews on Trustpilot echo this: “Yesterday … I was assigned room 3090… it smelled of mold, had dirty pillows and towels…” This strongly suggests recurring, unresolved sanitation issues at this property. Health Risks That Go Unchecked Mold exposure isn’t just unpleasant—it’s dangerous. For anyone with allergies, asthma, or compromised immunity, the consequences can be severe. Even without preexist

It’s a bait and switch, website looks great and they promote services you don’t actually get full access to. You have to book reservations which are limited. Dont recommend.

A beautiful location and a well run hotel. Great food options and everything seemed fresh with less overdone flavors or sauces. All restaurants catered to any food restrictions or choices.

Me and my husband have been to many resorts in punta cana. This resort is on the smaller side but ihas everything you need. You can always walk to it's surrounding sister properties if you choose. The location is great. Not too far from the airport and beautiful beach! I thought the restaurants and buffets were great. Many options and always something available. The 24 hour sports bar providing drinks and snacks is very convenient. The property as a whole is very well kept and clean. The Waterpark and themed pool parties located within the riu complex are a great bonus. For the most part, the nightly entertainment is average for an all inclusive resort in punta cana. The staff is very friendly and accommodating. We had a wonderful week and will be returning next year!!

During my stay at Riu Palace Macao (Sept 22–29, 2025), I experienced one of the most shocking service incidents I’ve ever encountered at a hotel. While dining at one of the resort’s restaurants, I was served water poured from a wine bottle by two waiters — as if it were wine. When I confronted them, both admitted they had poured it from a bottle left in a sink, and the hotel’s sub-director later confirmed this in writing. This is a serious breach of hygiene and food safety standards. Serving an unknown liquid from an unverified bottle is unacceptable anywhere, especially at a resort that calls itself “5-star.” What made things worse was the management’s complete lack of follow-up. No one from hotel management or Riu’s corporate office ever spoke to me about it during the rest of my stay. I later filed a formal complaint (WRC2XXQN) to Riu headquarters in Mallorca, but their reply was vague — basically saying there’s nothing they can do. Throughout the rest of the trip, my family and I felt anxious and uncomfortable, worried that staff might retaliate or tamper with our food or drinks after I complained. That’s not the kind of fear you should ever feel on vacation. This incident shows how Riu Palace Macao and Riu corporate management do not take guest safety or accountability seriously. For the price and reputation of this resort, the way they handled this was deeply disappointing. If you care about safety, professionalism, and accountability, I strongly suggest choosing another resort. — Cristian V. Room 3057 – Stay: Sept 22–29, 2025 ✅ Where to post it:
