The hotel's Riu party is very distinctive

My family and I stayed at the RIU palace Punta Cana from August 5-11 2025. I want to start by stating that we stayed at the RIU Ocho Rios in Jamaica in June 2025, so we expected a similar experience. When we arrived we were greeted and the check in process was smooth, we were given access to our room at 2 pm which was a great surprise since check in is at 3. Upon entering our room, the first thing we noticed was that the pull out sofa bed was not made. There were three of us and the sofa bed should have been prepared. I immediately called the front desk and they told me someone would be sent up to make the bed. We went out to the beach, and when we returned, the bed was still not made. My husband called the front desk again and asked for the bed to be made. We went to dinner and when we returned, the bed was made. I noticed that there was water on the floor of the bathroom, but thought perhaps it was still wet from being cleaned. Unfortunately, it was due to a leak in the shower which caused water to leak out onto the bathroom floor. I would place a towel on the floor everyday so that we would not slip. The beach- if you are looking for pristine beaches Punta Cana is not the place. They have a seaweed problem (which is NOT in the hotels control) which is incredibly off putting. It smells, has little bugs, and is an eyesore. What is in control of the hotel is the cleaning of the seaweed. While we were there, the seaweed on the beach in front of our hotel was not cleaned. The seaweed in front of the RIUs next to this hotel was cleaned, I watched them clean it, but they stopped cleaning before they got to our hotel. I am not exaggerating when I say that there was a small hill of seaweed that you had to climb over. At the beach we were constantly approached by people selling tours, jewelry, massages etc. It did not appear that they were employed by the hotel, they were all respectful, but we were approached at least 10 times a day. A positive experience on the beach was that there was service from the bar. It was nice to not have to walk up to the bar to order drinks. In regard to the performances at night, they were lacking. The service in the buffet dining room was great. We sat with Juan everyday and he was amazing. He was incredibly attentive and we looked forward to sitting in his section. The food was ok. We were hoping to be able to try more Dominican options, but they only had a few. In summary, we did not have a bad experience, but we would not come back. The experience we had at the RIU in Ocho Rios was far superior in all aspects.

Me and my two best friends had our first ever girls trip at this resort. It was an incredible experience! Beach is amazing with the beautiful turquoise water. We always felt safe and if we had any questions the staff were able to give us answers. Food was delicious and they had lots of options. Whether it was the buffet or restaurants we were very satisfied. Rooms were very clean and tidy. Anything we ever needed we would call the front desk and they would have someone bring what was needed which was great. The staff made the trip even better, so friendly and so hard working. Yiraldo, Joel, Rainer, Carlos, Ariel and Enmanuel took great care of us. The entertainment team got everyone involved and were very nice and fun to dance with. Lots of dancing and music every day whether it was at the pool or by the stage. Overall, this has been a trip to remember and I am forever thankful! Big thank you to all the staff at Riu Palace Punta Cana! We will definitely be back soon.

Punta Cana is a beautiful destination! The sunshine, the blue water, and the softest sand are all amazing! The Hotel Riu Palace was fantastic, for the most part. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Huge shout out to Espinal at the pool bar. He did an outstanding job making sure we were happy and that our drinks were full at all times! Another shout out to Lamares at the La Isabela buffet. We had a group of 8, and he made sure that we were all seated together at the best tables. We ate at 3 of the a la carte restaurants, and they were very good. Unfortunately, there are a few complaints as well. One of our rooms did not have working air conditioning, and it took 3 maintenance visits before a new room was offered. The new room was a handicap room, so it was not ideal, but it worked. On our last night, alarms in the rooms started going off at 1:30am and lasted a good hour or so. After they had stopped for a while, an announcement came over the speakers for us to evacuate the building, so we all headed down to the lobby. There were many upset guests in the lobby, and it was not a good experience. After about an hour, we went back to our rooms, just to be woken up again by the alarms at 7am. Not a good way to end a fantastic vacation. Unfortunately, we will not be returning to this hotel.

With a few exceptions, the Riu was an awesome vacation spot. Our room had 2 steps down into the room off the balcony. The flooring is laid out in a way that makes these steps hard to see. Because of this I fell a couple times. The steakhouse had excellent food but entire service attitude was less than welcoming. Not a very fun meal. The food on the buffet wasn’t hot but the service was excellent.

Stayed for a week during March Break 2025. Place was crowded with spring breakers that wouldn’t allow to spend a quiet night in the hotel. Also our Credit Card Details have been stolen from our room. Reception was unprofessional and unhelpful.

I spent the last week at RIU Palace (a truly ironic name) Punta Cana. My girlfriend’s family and I don’t get much time away from work and were really looking forward to a peaceful week away but we all feel like we completely wasted the thousands of dollars we spent at this resort. THE ROOMS: Where to begin. The rooms at the RIU Palace all had a distinct musty odor, like your grandmother’s old shoe closet. A few of the restaurants smelled the same way (see food review below). To make matters worse, my girlfriend and I were locked out of our rooms for FIVE HOURS on Sunday evening (see attached photos). We went to the lobby three separate times to have someone unlock our door. Each time the person at the counter said he would send someone from the maintenance team to unlock our room, and each time no one came. We felt stupid wasting so much of our trip sitting on the ground in front of our rooms like ******. We probably logged 5000 steps pacing back and forth to and from the lobby that evening alone. The accommodations in the room were downright horrendous. There were tiny bugs on the bedsheets, the rooms were FREEZING (you couldn’t control the temperature, just AC on and AC off), and the resort only offered paper thin sheets to keep warm. There were no comforters but you could request a coarse brown blanket (it took me 4 separate calls to reception to receive said blanket). In addition, during our visit, the fire alarm went off two separate times in the middle lf the night on the evening of Saturday 3/8 and the entire building needed to be evacuated. We have no idea why. We had a newborn baby with us whose sleep was disturbed by this unexplained issue. What’s more, no one at the resort offered an explanation or apology for this, which is unacceptable. THE FOOD: As bad as the rooms were, the food was worse. Much worse. I guess before I can even describe the quality of the food, which was terrible, I need to share the countless health code violations (if such a thing exists in the DR) my group observed. The food - burgers and hot dogs, meat products- in the sports bar was kept out at room temperature for AT LEAST 12 hours. There was no meat thermometer and no one monitoring the food safety; the sports bar had one bartender in the room most of the time and that’s it. The hot dogs buns were covered in black mold (see attached photo). We found hair and bugs on our plates on at least two instances. The plates and cups were poorly cleaned, and we saw several people vomiting in the bathroom from the food (we *only* got sick from the alcohol - see more below). Now onto the food quality. Almost all of the food at the resort was inedible. Full stop. The breakfast and lunch buffet featured stale bread, soggy fries, nacho chips that tasted like paper, supposedly cold cheeses and cured meats that were lukewarm, burgers that tasted like hockey pucks, and hot dogs that had a strange texture and a chemical aftertaste. There were trays and trays of

Traveled as a couple, Sep 4 -14. We found it to be very different from 2 years ago. Initially we booked Riu Bambu and transfered to Palace the 5th day...what a mistake! The room is really run down, smelly, just bad...overall a bad decision and a waste of extra money paid. The checkin was fine but the customer service is very slow to downright zero to address our needs (toilet not flushing, broken coffee maker, doors not closing, etc). Food is still OK, beach is a mess considering it is sargassum season, pools are not maintained, shall I continue? This hotel is really a pale shadow of what it used to be. My recommendation is to think twice before booking, as it is not worth the cost (quite high) compared to other hotels in this class.
