Good location close to M3/A303.
Friendly and polite reception staff.
Room was very clean with all expected amenities.
BUT, I would not stay here again as the rooms are very close together so I was plagued by noise all night, even after midnight. Doors banging, a baby crying in the room next door. These noises were probably unavoidable, but my room backed into the pub courtyard and there were people talking at the tables outside, again, this was after midnight - why?? I wouldn’t have expected any pub noise at all after 11. I was travelling for work and had an early start so this was a poor stay for me.

Checked into this pub with rooms, but did not end up staying. There is nothing positive to say. We checked in and were given a room and then handed some towels with all the threads hanging off of them, as the room was only set up for one person. We entered the room, and I have never seen such a battered, filthy room ever. The skirting boards were thick with dust, and the edges of the carpets were caked in dust and dirt. The walls had filthy marks all over them, as well as the doors. I went to the reception and was offered another room. I went to this room and it was no better, so we were left with the room we were allocated. The rooms had not been cleaned properly for months, not days, as the dirt and dust were so thick. Whoever runs or manages this place should be absolutely ashamed of themselves, and the housekeeping staff fired, as clearly they do not know how to clean and have no pride in themselves or the pub. We had to leave as I refused to stay in such a dirty, filthy hole. The girl at reception did not seem bothered when we left. I have contacted Greene King, who own the pub, and they do not seem bothered either. This is the first time I have tried a Greene King pub with rooms, but I don't think we will ever again. We did have a table booked in the restaurant, but we would hate to think what the kitchen is like if the rooms are to that standard.

I have been dropping into The Wheatsheaf for BAR meetings for a while now and it has become one of my favourite pubs in the area. The food has been consistently reliable with a menu that suits most tastes. Portions are generous, everything arrives hot and well presented, and service is always efficient. My partner is vegetarian and has never struggled to find something suitable which is a big plus. The pub itself is very welcoming. It has a traditional feel with a smart finish and plenty of character. The atmosphere is relaxed and the staff are cheerful and attentive without being intrusive. Drinks are well stocked with a good mix of beers, wines and soft options, and the coffee is surprisingly good for a pub. Although I have not stayed in the rooms, the overall standard of the place suggests they will be well looked after. It is a great choice for a meal, a casual drink or a meet up with friends. I would happily recommend it to others.

Visit here once a month for a meeting of BAR’s (motorcycle club) always get there a bit early and order food. The menu is and always has been great. So much choice and plenty of veggie options for my GF. Food is always delicious, arrives fast and plates are quickly emptied. And if we sometimes stretch to puddings then sticky toffee pud is a firm favourite. Good selection of coffee’s, teas, wines and beers. Fine choice of spirits too but its always a school night so we dont usually indulge in that shelf. Pub/restaurant itself is beautiful with oak beams beautifully renovated, a great atmosphere and superb service with a smile. Highly recommended visiting. There are rooms available too but we never stay as were so local.

Having visited over the weekend, I was really disappointed with the food. I ordered the mushroom wellington, and wasn't informed at the time that there wasn't any stuffing left. Having to ask the waitress staff where it was they had to ask the chef and came back to say there wasn't any. The mushroom wellington itself was a HUGE letdown. the pastry on the bottom was burnt and it was completely bland inside- (unless you love shallots!) It had almost no flavor and the only thing I could taste was burnt. Definitely not worth the money and will not be going there again.

Stopped here on the way home from visiting some nearby attractions. Food was excellent, staff were freindly and service was speedy, suitably located just off the A303 and M3. definitely recommend and will visit agon next time we are in the area
