Went with another couple, playing golf over 3 days. Pooley Bridge was lovely with a fantastic almost continental atmosphere, helped by the fantastic sunny weather. Hotel is located right by the river, with a beer garden and outdoor area overlooking the river, which was lovely, and near the lake for walking etc. Breakfast in the hotel was excellent , with a good choice and very good quality. We ate in the hotel 2 nights and food and service was very good. Only negative is that the hotel does not have dedicated parking but we did manage to park outside the hotel every night, so it was not a problem.. A thoroughly enjoyable stay and would definitely come back.

Had a great steak and ale pie (though the missus prefers thicker Gravy but i liked it). Friendly staff who recommended the pie which left me thinking 'well of course they'll recommend one of their own meals innit?' but he was bang on.....it was a good un. The establishment is right on the river which is cool.

I visited having walked over Askham Fell and decided to have lunch sitting in the sun by the river. The "hand carved" ham sandwich very obviously wasn't hand carved and no effort was made to make it anything more than a sandwich, except a couple of leaves chucked on the plate. At £10.50 it was an absolute disgrace and they clearly have no pride in what they serve or in appealing to repeat visitors.

We were there for lunch. The pub and grounds themselves are delightful. A lovely place to sit for a drink whilst waiting for the steamer on Ullswater . The food was disappointing. We had fish finger sandwiches but they were battered not breadcrumbed. . We weren’t sure that the large roll was Sour Dough as described. The ham sandwiches were tasty

Fantastic setting but overpriced for mediocre (at best) food, that was obviously pre-prepared and just kept warm. Will not be returning im afraid.

Food was nice, great views, little on the pricey side. Only complaint is the lack of clarity over dairy / gluten free options, they were accommodating enough to offer to ask the kitchen but options were limited for a light lunch. By the time it was sorted some of food was already out… ended up with chips! Would be great if they could update the menu to list ingredients!

We had a brilliant stay here! The room was lovely, clean and had everything we needed, nice tea, coffee and fresh milk! The most comfy bed ever! We had a really nice meal and a drink looking out over the river, it was bliss! Staff were friendly and helpful, breakfast was great, we had a great time, will definitely go back!
