The description on the homepage and the reality are two different things. First, the arrival on the island was very dangerous. Yes, there were high waves but the boat captain had to dock the boat parallel to the incoming waves. We were afraid the boat would tip over. Then the ancient villas are exactly that... ancient. They are dilapidated and nothing was replaced in a nice manner. The shower rooms were the worst. We complained and could look at some additional villas and choose from them but it was only a small step up. The food served is standard Thai food - nothing to be seen of a chef. Cocktails were not available because there was no staff on the island with the knowledge to create them. The same for massages - not available. The whole impression of the restaurant area also was run down. The staff was very friendly and they did the best with what they had. We left earlier and at least got a refund for these days. For the price charged this is absolutely not recommendable.

Rooms were moldy and dirty. No aircon as night temperatures hovered in the 29deg celsius range. Nothing has been renovated in the last 15 years. The turtle sanctuary was a disgrace. Animal abuse more than a sanctuary. Snorkeling from the Island was a waste of time. Staff was friendly apart from the manager who continuously tried to upsell this travesty.

We loved our stay at Koh Talu, an island around 3km long by 0.5km wide, a short boat ride from the mainland coast. Environment. The island is within Ao Siam National Park. Stunning white sandy beaches; coral reef. Natural forest for trekking. Beautiful cliffs including the ‘hole’ geological sea arch on the eastern side of the island which gives the island its name. There is a turtle nesting conservation project on the island - you can see and learn about the work done. The resort: Service was exceptional- the team looked after us very well all the way from booking to saying farewell. Water sports: we loved fast sailing on the hobie-cat dinghy. Foiling, surfing, paddle boarding also available. Snorkelling was great fun, albeit the reef, like so many, is not in great condition. Still good range of coral reef fish, crabs, giant clams, and some soft corals and feather duster worms. Dive school also on the island. Kayaks generally available to take out anytime. We had fun! All kit was in good condition and the staff are well trained and helpful. Accommodation: clean, spacious and comfortable. Open air restaurant provides great food and service. Transfer from mainland: well organised, quick and comfortable.

An absolutely stunning location, a must see island. Crystal clear water and the softest white sand. The down side it is it could really use an upgrade for the price to stay the night. Really sweet staff, who might have become a bit complacent to this gem of a place. We would love for them to clean the beach and surroundings daily, for the turtle sanctuary to be upgraded and for travelers to get what they pay for. We found ourselves cleaning up at the beach because it was too beautiful a place too leave trash just floating around. Please do something about this.

The island looks nice and the sea is just great. But if you look more closely you notice that it starts to be run down. For sure it has been great place for 10-15 years ago. Or Thai style accommodation was a bit disappointing. Our aircondition did not work and believe me you cannot sleep in there without it. They tried to fix it but we had to change the cottage where there was no hot water in the shower but air-conditioning was working. Food/buffet was great and the view from the out door restaurant is beautiful. Personnel in the reception are very nice and helpful. There is a "sanctuary" for the turtles but even that seems old and run down. When you walk a bit on the beaches you can find plastic trash and bottles. I wish they would clean it better. 2 days and 1 night was enough for us. It was nice change for our stay in Hua Hin but would not go again.
