Hotel has great potential. Unfortunately items from my room went missing a couple times. They also will add extra charges wherever they can so if your intending on a set prices I would avoid this one. My hot water went out a couple times while being here and the fire alarm went off many of the nights. They have one washer and dryer resulting me in using the nearby laundry mat. The vending machines don’t work, will take your money and no refunds. The remodels look nice tho 👍🏾 sorry

I stayed at the Howard Johnson hotel by Wyndham in Appleton, Wisconsin from 4/17/25 to 4/21/25. On Friday 4/18/25 at around 7 am, I was eating breakfast in the breakfast room. The front desk clerk scolded me for having my ice bucket in the breakfast room and said I should put it in my room. I could totally understand this if the bucket had ice or water in it since it could cause a mess, but my bucket was totally empty. I had bursitis in my knee and could barely walk, so I planned on stopping by the ice machine after I ate breakfast in order to get ice so I didn't have to walk any more than necessary. Meanwhile, another table of guests was blasting their music really loud for the whole room to hear and the front desk clerk didn't ask them to turn their music down or anything. On Saturday 4/19/25 at around 1:10 am, I was rudely awakened by a call from the front desk to my room phone. The front desk clerk claimed that a man was trying to break into my room (room #104) through the window. I looked outside and saw no one outside at all. I went to the front desk and no one was there, so I had to press 0 from the front desk phone sitting out on the desk in order to get someone to talk to me. The front desk clerk appeared and I asked him why he woke me up and lied to me, and he said he meant to call room #106, not room #104. No apology was given to me or anything. At the time, I was in excruciating pain because of bursitis in my left knee and could barely walk, so I was very upset about being woken up with a made-up story about some man trying to break into my room. Not only that, but why would the front desk call me (a woman in my 40's staying in the room all by myself) about a crime taking place? Why wouldn't he call the police about this immediately if a man was supposedly trying to break into my room? By the way, I did ask him to call the cops right when he called my room, and the front desk clerk said "No" and hung up on me. I've been a loyal Wyndham Rewards member since 2021 and this has really destroyed my trust in the Wyndham brand. I attempted to resolve this via email before writing a bad review, but Wyndham Rewards took 3 days to even reply to me in the first place, and when they did finally reply, they just gave a generic, canned response and were completely unhelpful. The front desk staff were friendly but failed to tell us upon check-in that the pool was closed and the breakfast hours had changed. The hours listed online and in the hotel room were incorrect. Breakfast was really pathetic, and not like pictured on their website. It was fruit loops, raisen bran, toast, banana, apple, or yogurt. The sheets were stained and the hotel smells gross, like smoke that's covered up with air freshener. The walls are thin and noisy neighbors kept us up. The building is run down which didn't bother much but its basically an old motel instead of a hotel. The toilet paper is super thin and rough. If you do stay here, don't count on breakfast, a pool. And bring your own toilet paper. 2 miles, 5 minutes to the exhibition center.

I will never stay here again, and would not recommend it to anyone. It was not clean, stairs were muddy, the room smelled TERRIBLY bad, and the bedding had a bad odor too (like sweaty socks....). Opened the window to air it out and cool the room off a bit as it was very warm and I was called by the front desk and told I could not have the window open (even though I did not have the heat on...).
