Our guesthouse, No. 5, was situated in the heart of the island. The view from the window was expansive, and the room, courtyard, and kitchen were clean and tidy. The owners were a kind and simple family. The price was just over 100 yuan per person, including meals and lodging. The dishes were mainly local specialties, made with fresh ingredients, and were delicious and visually appealing. During the day, we took a boat trip to pick lotus pods and other fresh lotus flowers – a very comfortable and enjoyable experience. Taking advantage of our kindness as 60-somethings, they lied and said there weren't enough rooms for everyone, moving us from a 20+ square meter room to a room of about 6 square meters, and even giving us single blankets. We didn't get a good night's rest! The next day, the landlady even questioned why we hadn't asked her for those. In the end, only two women around 30 years old actually checked in. Do they still think we were easy to fool? 2) Dinner was advertised as lotus leaf steamed duck, but it was actually pre-cooked duck bought from the market, not even properly heated. It tasted terrible, and the two of us only ate three pieces. Afterwards, we both experienced bloating and nausea! We barely ate breakfast the next day and rushed back to the county town as a precaution. The landlady even questioned why other people were fine? Ugh!! 3) Finding a ferry yourself costs 15 to 20 yuan, but if the owner finds one, the price jumps to 30 yuan. Is this such a poor business practice designed to scare away countless travelers?
