Located an easy 15-20 minute walk from the bus station through the historic centre, this is a very old building that has been in the family for at least three generations. The rooms are beautiful and old-fashioned, with antique furniture, lace curtains, and polished wooden floors. Our bedroom smelled like an old Ontario farmhouse, which is a nostalgic and welcoming smell to me. The water pressure in the shower comes and goes, and one must run the hot water tap quite a few minutes before the hot water shows up, but perhaps that’s part of being an old building. The bed was not the most comfortable, but okay, and the pillows skimpy. Breakfast was adequate but a little meagre, with nothing hot on offer. I didn’t have much interaction with our hosts, but they seemed pleasant. The guesthouse has a really nice shaded terrace in the front overlooking the river, with an honesty bar. If one has mobility issues, there are a number of stairs to contend with, and if one has cat allergies, there is a wonderfully friendly cat wandering the house. I did enjoy this guesthouse and would stay again.

This property is in a wonderful spot to easily walk to the center of the city and the river front and Roman Bridge and beautiful São Gonçalo Church!

Myself and my wife loved staying here it was a beautiful guest house very traditional. We were visiting family so found tbe guest house to be very convenient . If i had to moan about anything it would be the thin walls between the rooms we could here the couple in the next room very clearly which was a little annoying at times but usually only when we wanted to sleep. And again its a very small moan becuase they may of been loud people. The breakfast was great and Siri the cat kept us company at times. The whole place was immaculate and everything had been thought of including the honesty bar which was a nice touch. I would suggest maybe adding some snacks to this as well. I would definitely recommend this guest house to anyone thinking of staying in Amarante. We will be back. Thank you

Wished we had booked two nights! Loved everything.

This is a simply outstandingly beautiful guesthouse - you really feel like you are a guest in someone's luxurious home. Beautifully designed 1967 regional style home, filled with gorgeous old wooden antiques, a huge shaded terrace overlooking the spectacular river. You have the run of the place, including tasteful small outdoor pool, bar, extensive garden with sun loungers overviewing the river. Very comfy bed, good shower, easy parking ( book in advance) Wild swimming nearby on other side of the river, reached by a stunning stepping stone weir walkway. Amarante is the prettiest town we have encountered so far on our two week road trip through Portugal. Great value!
