Quirky Room but not practical for living in. Fabulous wallpaper, lighting, period portraits, bed and bathroom with old fashioned chain toilet. Large old shipping storage boxes at side of each bed but are unusable and nailed shut. 4 very small drawers and one small wardrobe for clothing, nowhere to put personal belongings much and toiletries had to be put on floor as no surfaces. Cleaner never cleaned toilet or bath during stay. Very hot room thankfully there was a fan. Biggest problem was no fridge for liquids so had to ask for ice bucket at bar. Breakfast was average, cooked full English had cheap ingredients but eggs well cooked both days ( I had eggs Benedict second day ) contential nice Staff friendly.

Let me start by saying that since we booked this last year, both the pub and the B&B have been sold and are now owned and operated by the Greene King pub chain. We had no knowledge of this change, as there was no update from corporate and when we told locals (who asked) where we were staying, were quite dismissive telling us what it used to be like. We were apprehensive and worried what our experience might be, but I feel ours was a good experience. And even though it is now marketed as a Harry Potter B&B, apart from the colours (our bathroom and curtains reflected Griffyndor colours and the wall paper was the marauder's map) we didn't feel it was in your face. B&B A restful night for all Even though in the centre of the town, we certainly enjoyed a good nights sleep for our time there. Four poster bed with matching furniture and a lovely en-suite bathroom. Fresh fluffy towels, plenty of hot water and complimentary toiletries, nothing was too much trouble for the staff. Plenty of choice for breakfast too!

I was quite disappointed with my stay here. I had done a lot of research into this hotel as my boyfriend (who's birthday it was) is a huge Harry Potter fan and we wanted to see the castle and I had read about the Harry Potter rooms the Dirty Bottles Hotel offers. I had paid the extra price for the "Superior" room, which the pictures looked incredible. This cost me £400.95 for two nights! I didn't mind paying as, as I mentioned, the pictures looked incredible. However, when we arrived, we had to wait 10 minutes to be served at the hotel check-in, despite staff just standing around. We were told to ring the bell, when we did no one came, we than rang it again, and when someone did come it was the same person that told us we needed to ring the bell...bit pointless. We then got shown to our room, and it was certainly not the room advertised. It was much smaller, darker, and did not have the details as suggested in the photos. We were on the first floor and it was incredibly noisy, especially in the evening/night time. The pub is obviously open until midnight, which I don't have a problem with, however, it was so noisy, you could literally hear word for word of people's conversations until about 1.00am. Meaning we couldn't sleep until the pub had closed it doors. It also meant that when the doors re-opened for breakfast the next morning you could hear tables being dragged around the pub as they prepared. The room itself was very clean, however, the water pressure in the bathroom was next to nothing. The shower basically just dribbled water from it. It took a long time to get the shampoo out my hair! The cold tap in the bathroom ran hot, meaning brushing your teeth was done in hot water. The TV was behind a cabinet, which was quite cool, however, the right hand door did not stay open and was swinging shut. This meant we had to find something to prop it open with. We had breakfast included in our stay. The cooked breakfast was fab, however, on the second day, with breakfast starting at 9.00am and us coming down at 9.30am, there was no pastries left, no juice left, no coffee left and no plates left. Which was disappointing. Maybe they had been extremely busy that 30 minutes before, but when we came down there were only 3 other tables with people on. Overall, I was very disappointed with our stay here. Somethings can be forgiven, but when they are false advertising, it's a real shame. I would not recommend paying the extra and I definitely won't be staying here again, having travelled 5 hours to visit!

Visited here with my wife before moving on up to Scotland. We were met by jess and from minute one she was brilliant. Helpful with info we needed and couldn't do enough for us at breakfast. Nothing was too much trouble. The hotel is in a perfect spot and has a great atmosphere. Our room that I had asked for when I booked a month in advance was perfect.
