Firstly, I’ll mention the negatives, as the hotel itself is lovely but there were a few issues during our stay. We stayed in the Bamburgh room. My initial concern was that the room might be noisy in the evening, as it faces onto the main road and you can hear the traffic. I was reassured that it quietens down later, which it did. However, the bigger issue was the noise from the room above. The sound of floorboards and movement carries heavily, and it really does disturb the room below – at times the room even seemed to shake. Thankfully, the guests above us didn’t stay up late, but this could easily have been a much bigger problem. Perhaps fitting carpets in the upstairs rooms would help. If you are a light sleeper, I would struggle to recommend this hotel. On the positive side, the room itself was spacious, well-presented, and cleaned to a high standard. We appreciated the complimentary cookies, enjoyed a nice breakfast, and found the location to be an excellent base for exploring Northumberland.

We visited the cookie jar today for afternoon tea for my besties birthday. Just live round the corner and never been in, it was absolutely beautiful, we were greeted with a warm professional welcome and shown around, Leigh told us about the history of the building and was so lovely. Staff were so attentive friendly and it was such an amazing relaxed vibe in such a boutique hotel. Afternoon tea was enjoyable not to much but still took a goodie bag away. We will definitely be back. Thank you to all the staff for making my friends birthday special xx

My husband and I visited her last night and all we can say is WOW! We stayed in the chapel suite and it was nothing short of perfection. From arrival the staff were very friendly and accommodating nothing was too much trouble. The suite itself was stunning beyond our expectations. Super comfy bed and linen and a sound night sleep. Complimentary toiletries are divine and add that special touch. The garden is beautiful amd we enjoyed a couple of cocktails there on the afternoon. Breakfast was lovely and lots of choice. The crossants were the best we've ever had! Can't wait to book again for August. This has by far become our favourite place to stay. Thank you to all the staff

Spacious, comfortable, smart rooms with huge beds. Great food. Location perfect. Breakfast absolutely out of this world - among the best I’ve had anywhere in a long life. Would definitely visit again.

The Cookie Jar is in a lovely spot close to Alnwick Castle. The staff are friendly and the breakfast is delicious. Everyone clearly works extremely hard and you are made to feel welcome. There is no dedicated parking for this hotel but we managed to park with ease even in August. Although you do have to remember to move your car during the day to fit in with on street parking regulations. We had a few tiny niggles, for example, the flashing light from a pedestrian crossing, was noticeable even though blinds were down. It's not an easy one to rectify due to the shape of the window but it did mean that it took me sometime to get to sleep. If this is something that's an issue for you, it might be worth taking a sleeping mask as a precaution. Also, we did not enjoy our evening meal at the bistro. The restaurant ambience and staff are very nice and the young staff certainly try their best but the food was and issue. Our starter of figs with cheese appeared to have been made well in advance, it was unappetising and we didn't eat it. We did mention this to the waitress and she did apologise. It all felt a bit awkward. We did not return to dine for the remainder of the trip. Overall, it is a good base.

Formally a convent, this boutique hotel has been beautifully restored and tastefully furnished to the highest standards. The location is ideal, very close to Alnwick Castle and a short walk to Alnwick Garden, the town centre and Barter Books. The staff were very friendly staff made us feel very much at home. The small restaurant is also to be recommended.

We loved this hotel! The room is one of the biggest we've stayed in; we had dinner on one night, which was excellent. Breakfast is well presented and caters for all tastes, I enjoyed a variety of things from the menu over 3 days. The thing that made this stay most memorable for us though was the staff at the hotel. Without exception, they were friendly and helpful and really couldn't do enough to make our stay a memorable one. We would highly recommend the Cookie Jar. (Be sure to visit the castle too. Only 50 yards away, it's beautiful and, again, the people conducting the tours were brilliant).
