The room is a bit old, but it is close to the park and convenient for travel. There is a small door next to the restaurant that leads directly to the park. You can have a buffet after returning from the park at noon, which is very convenient

We stayed in the Royal section from 9/5-9/13. We were picked up on a golf cart and taken to the Royal check in and it went very quickly. I can't say enough good things about the ladies working in this area. I wish I could remember everyone's name but Sandra, Iris and Giovani were all amazing. Mireya working the Royal pool always made sure we had full cups. Our first night we ate at the main buffet. I would give it a 2 out of 10. Bland cold food with no selection and this was 20 minutes after opening for dinner. We had breakfast, lunch and most of the dinners at the Royal restaurant and the food was great as was the service. I recommend the French toast. The staff was very friendly and would get anything you asked for. We only ate ala carte one night and that was at the Oriental. They had a very good selection, large portions and great service. We had room service twice and both times the food came fast just don't try and order nachos before 10:00 PM. The resort and grounds were kept looking good but we felt the area around the Royal pool could have been cleaned more often. A lot of what I read said the resort was too big to walk around. It's not and there are shuttles about every 15 minutes. This resort has tons of wildlife too. Our room was cleaned and the mini fridge was stocked daily with soda and beer. One weird thing did happen. One of the cleaning girls took a whole box of my wife's tampons. I guess she needed them more.

Birthday Trip Ruined – Downgraded Without Notice & Poor Service We booked our stay at Occidental at Xcaret Destination nearly five months in advance, and upgraded to the Royal Level a month before arrival to celebrate both my wife’s and my birthday with our 10-month-old son. Unfortunately, what should have been a memorable trip became one of the most disappointing hotel experiences we’ve ever had. What Went Wrong: • Downgrade Without Notice: On the day of our flight, the hotel canceled our Royal Level reservation without warning and downgraded us to a Junior Suite. This “suite” was no different from a regular room. • Poor Service: Staff made us feel like an inconvenience. Asking for basics like towels or bags for wet clothes required 3–5 reminders, and even then service felt reluctant. • Birthday Amenities: We received the “sparkling wine and chocolate strawberries” only the day before checkout. What arrived was insulting: three tiny strawberries and a mini bottle of warm sparkling wine shoved into a fridge that barely worked. • Special Requests Ignored: I had flowers for my wife’s birthday but, since no vase or bucket was provided despite repeated requests, I had to keep them alive in a trash bin filled with water. • Unhelpful Management: When I spoke with the manager, he wasted over an hour of my vacation and resolved nothing. • Family-Unfriendly: Changing stations in restrooms are almost nonexistent, making it very difficult for families with young children. Staff offered no help when we asked. • Food & Drinks: Outside the Royal Level, food was mediocre and drinks were low quality. Staff in Royal areas looked down on us as if we didn’t belong—even though that’s what we had originally booked and paid for. Pros: • Beautiful grounds with lush greenery and wildlife. • Direct access to Xcaret Park. Final Thoughts: What should have been a special celebration turned into a trip we’ll remember for all the wrong reasons. The mishandling of our reservation, lack of basic service, and dismissive treatment ruined our stay. For the price and reputation, this is unacceptable. I cannot recommend this hotel, especially if you are booking for a special occasion or traveling with family.

Arrival - Booked an all inclusive with Thomas Cook (x10 nights) during Easter holidays (Apr ‘25) - 2 adults, 2 kids (8 & 12). Hassle free flight with BA from Gatwick, no issues at border control in Cancun (through very quickly), private hotel transfer with Nexus (excellent) c50 mins to Xcaret. Warm welcome at the hotel (very impressive entrance), offered drinks on arrival, given all the info we needed about the hotel/our stay. Minor environmental tax to pay based on # nights stay (c.£15 total) - paid in MXN Peso cash. Hotel - huge, so many pools, the beach, bars, restaurants and activities throughout the day. Highlights were the macaw parrots in the lobby, iguanas (who do get in the pool with you!), spider monkeys, a few snakes, deer and what looked like ring tailed lemurs - all living freely in the complex. Due to the time difference we were able to go down to the beach restaurant and watch the sun rise on the first few mornings which was a great start to the day. Extra bonus - nobody woke up early to reserve sun beds - most people didn’t come down to the pool until lunchtime. checkout is at 11am but we were able to pay extra to remain in the complex and use the pools and restaurants for about c.£35 total until we left for our flight late afternoon (there is a shared hospitality room for you to take a shower and get dressed before you leave if needed). The boys will also look after your luggage. It’s a lot more if you want to keep your room after checkout c.£50. Catering - Food and drinks a plenty, something for everyone and lots of options for breakfast, lunch and dinner. You can book the additional restaurants via guest services up to 3 days in advance - we did the Mexican Hasenda, Oriental and Olivio’s Italian twice each - there is a dress code for men only of long trousers and closed toe shoes. We also did a mix of the main buffet restaurant, Paco Taco and the Pizzaria (no booking needed and no dress code). I’m vegan, my husband vegetarian - neither of us went hungry. All the staff at the food/drink outlets (and in general) were super friendly, chatty and kind. Xcaret - our Thomas cook package didn’t include free entry to the Xcaret park - we bought a single day ticket, (there is a travel shop on site to buy tickets). It’s pricey c.£320 (2 adults, 2 kids) for the basic package (if you have your own snorkels). You can go back to the hotel for lunch/dinner. You don’t need to buy a locker at Xcaret while doing the cave swim, you can put all your stuff in a free large duffle bag which they lock and transport to the cave exit for you. Bring water shoes for the cave swim as the rocks are sharp. Playa del carmen - we took a taxi to the town for a day trip which is worth a visit lots of tacky shops and restaurants. Cost c.£15 each way. Top tips: -MXN Peso is fine, you don’t need USD. We are from the UK - the exchange rate was better for local currency (we didn’t take any USD). -Bring your own snorkels (the ones in the hotel shop are expens

Our overall experience was wonderful. The staff was great and the rooms were so clean. The only downfall was that the buffet food wasn't great but their restaurant food was really good.

We loved this resort, excellent service, great food and entertainment. Very well designed with nature. I took trails every day and saw several animals. I went Snorkeling several times at adult area by beach restaurant. Ocean saltwater fed with many fish.

The hotel is stunning and has a great location next to the water. They have a cute cove that they keep the seaweed out of so that it is usable even when stormy. Staff was friendly. We stayed in royal and the restaurant that you have access to had the best food we tried, so I would do that if you can. The food in general is the only thing I would improve on.
