Atlantica Amalthia Beach Hotel - Adults Only

This was our second visit to The Atlantica Amalthia and it was even better than last year. The service, the rooms, the food - everything was as good as we remembered and in some cases even better. The staff remembered us, which given the number of guests they must encounter is impressive. I cannot fault anything about this hotel, but I will certainly highlight the cleanliness; the quality of the food and drinks and let’s not forget the gorgeous beach location. Sotiria at the beach was amazing, Kiki at the pool bar makes the best gin brambles and Antonis just makes sure everyone is happy! Can’t wait to go back next year.

We stayed for 5 nights. It’s important to know there are two halves to this hotel - one half is recently built , modern and on the opposite side of the road from other (beachside) part. If you want the modern rooms on the new side you need to book the “Deluxe” rooms. If you don’t you will get the older rooms on the main side which is where we stayed. The older rooms are dated and tired looking , sorry to say. You can see some of the photos I took during the stay to show what I mean. The room was clean , no problem with that , and was serviced daily. The bathroom had a very annoying problem though. There’s a gap you can get your finger underneath, under the fixed glass shower screen. Water pours through it and drenches the floor every time you shower - a big annoyance and there’s nothing you can do about it. It even looks like they’ve added a drainage hole into the floor to help but it’s of little value - every time I showered for 3 mins the floor was drenched. It seems bizarre they cannot just fit a screen with no gap ! The bed was not comfortable , mattress very soft and the “double bed” was obviously two mattresses zipped together so sank in the middle All staff we met were very helpful and friendly and the breakfast was of very good standard. Access to the beach is great and you get good service there for food , drinks etc. They charge you €10 for two loungers even though you are hotel guests. Overall a clean and well run hotel, but the older rooms are dated and are in need of full refurbishment. I probably wouldn’t stay again but that’s no discredit to the staff who were great and whom I can’t fault.

Upon arriving at the hotel, we only had the photos and descriptions provided by TUI to go by. Thankfully, we were warmly greeted and shown to our room by a friendly young staff member. The rooms were clean, spacious, and exactly what we had hoped for. Although we weren’t informed where breakfast was served, we managed to figure it out ourselves without much trouble. Breakfast at the hotel was excellent, offering a good selection of hot options like eggs, beans, and sausages, alongside cold meats and fresh fruit. One downside was the situation with the pool loungers. Like many places around the world, guests would reserve loungers early in the morning—sometimes as early as 7am—by leaving towels and a book, then not return for hours. This meant that most of the loungers (around 14 out of 20) were often unavailable for long periods. It would be helpful if the hotel implemented a policy to discourage this kind of behaviour. Fortunately, the hotel had its own beach area with loungers, just a short walk from our room to the sea. However, we were quite surprised to find that we had to pay €10 per day for two loungers, despite them being part of the hotel’s beach. On another day, we visited Ermis Beach, where hotel guests were not charged for using sun loungers, which made the fee at our hotel feel a little unfair. We did run into some issues with the shower. Around 4pm, the water would often cut out unless we turned it to a very cold setting, which was uncomfortable. This happened several times during our stay. Additionally, the shower had a glass door with a gap at the bottom, causing water to leak onto the bathroom floor. Although there was a floor drain outside the shower, the water would still pool and leave the floor soaked. The poolside bar offered very generous lunch portions, with a good variety of food—from club sandwiches to pasta and fish dishes. The cocktails were tasty, but at €12 each, we expected a bit more in terms of alcohol content. They were quite weak for the price. A final note: there’s a beach club two doors down from the hotel that plays loud “nightclub-style” music from around 12pm to midnight. It’s mainly bass-heavy electronic music, which made it difficult to relax on the beach as the sound was quite overpowering.

Just returned from a wonderful week here. The whole place is extremely clean. Breakfast choices are excellent with a variety for all tastes including the chef making omelettes of your own choice and pancakes. We had a pool view room which was very comfortable and modern in the annexe part of the hotel across the road from the main building. The staff are very friendly and welcoming. Hotel facilities are really good. There was a small negative in that the room next to ours had a faulty door which was banged closed by the occupier each time causing disturbance. This was reported to reception staff but in the final days despite being told that maintenence would attend to it we didn't notice it had been fixed. ! All in all a very nice place and we would return.

Location Agia Marina beach is very clean and has lots of lovely places to eat and drink overlooking the ocean including some beach clubs with comfy sun beds and waiter service. The hotel is right in the middle of a street of restaurants so you don’t need to walk far. It’s 20 mins in a taxi to Chania town and harbour which is absolutely stunning and well worth visiting (although it’s very busy and touristy). Eating and drinking We didn’t have a bad meal once, food was outstanding. We only realised late in the holiday that there was a street of beautiful traditional restaurants a short walk up the hill from the hotel. Explore early! If you’re looking for bars for drinks after food, we thought that was the only thing slightly lacking but maybe that’s because it was early season when we were there. A couple to note - Level (good service and drinks ok), Litina (nice drinks terrible service, we walked out one night after waiting for drinks), the rest of the places to drink seemed to be restaurants. The hotel Spotlessly clean. I got up early a couple of mornings and I could smell the bleach where they’d been cleaning around the pool. We had a deluxe room with pool view which was lovely, and ideal being right next to the pool for the early sunbed wars (more on that in a bit). Room service was great, clean towels every day, water replaced. Pools were all clean and well maintained. Sun beds very very comfy. Only downside of the pool was that people were getting up at 7am and reserving beds. Not the hotels fault but annoying. Food and drinks at the hotel were great, cocktails were excellent and full range of spirits. We ate at the pool bar a couple of times and the menu was very good and food tasty. Staff Staff at the hotel were really nice. Very well turned out, friendly and approachable. Reception were very helpful but we have to give a special shout out to a few. Kiki at the pool bar was outstanding, so pleasant, very attentive and great at her job. Antonis and Iannis at the restaurant bar made our holiday, great craic and again, very attentive.

We stayed for 10 days in the newer part above the street on the second floor. Great apartment and Anna who was cleaning is lovely, always so cheerful. Excellent sunbeds, which was no problem to get the first few days, but then it started to be difficult as the stay went on, but more sunbeds could be added. Went for lunch several times at the beach bar, the wait for food and service was way too long. This shouldn't happen at lunchtime when asking for a sandwich and chips. Then we went a few times in the evening and there was not such a long wait and I recommend Souvlaki, the best in Crete. Would definitely come here again.
