Nice room with queen size bed. Clean and quiet - the two most important qualities. Normal continental breakfast - ample enough. Only frustration was that the bathroom door was held open by a strong magnet which made a horrible noise when you pulled the door away from the magnet to close the door. This was super loud and annoying in the middle of the night!

Overpriced for what you get, the breakfast was a huge disappointment after reading glowing reviews from 2024. Choice Hotels made a cost-cutting decision to take away all the hot items and just leave some cereal, toast, not even a waffle machine. Our check-in was slow and the room we were assigned had not been cleaned. The clerk was very nice, but was a fill-in and had not been sufficiently trained on their computer system. There are very few hotels in Abilene, KS. But if we ever come back, we will stay down the road in Salina rather than in Abilene. However, did fine a great new Asian restaurant in Abilene-Fuji's!

The building is brand new and is very nice. But the electronic thermostats in two rooms I had weren’t set up properly. I tried to call down to the desk and my phone was dead. The Internet was down also. They blamed some of these things on the power going out the previous night. These are known issues and they’re still charging almost $200 a night.

I tend to stay at Holiday Inn Express hotels because I can count on the parking being well lit and seeming to be safe; the lobby, reception process, room and breakfast being fine; and the building and room being clean & in good repair. With one notable exception, the Holiday Inn Express and Suites Abilene was just like that. The exception was that the electrical outlets on the built-in furniture, including the table between the two beds, were terribly hard to use. The outlets were the "tamper proof" type for safety, which is a good concept, but something about these particular ones made them far too hard to use. I gave up on using the outlets at the table between the two beds and, instead, charged my devices using an outlet on the far side of the room. Doing so was an annoyance for me but could be a problem for some people.

When I walked in I first noticed the bed looked sloppy. I just figured the housekeeper was new and hadn’t mastered making a bed yet. It did cross my mind that maybe the sheets hadn’t been changed. When I went to the restroom there was a dirty wash cloth in the shower. Now I don’t know what was and wasn’t clean in the room. As I went to dinner a couple was telling the desk that the bathroom had dirty towels on the floor and no new replacements. I won’t stay again.

We did not have a reservation but stopped in hoping for a vacancy. The front desk clerk was able to pull up my email address to get our IHG number. It was close to the interstate but very quiet. A few miles from downtown and lots of places to see. Would recommend this hotel to someone traveling through the area.
