Aberystwyth Park Lodge Hotel

My family and I have had a good couple of stays at this hotel which we have used as a base to visit family, however I am sorry to say that after our experience this weekend we are unlikely to return. I booked a room for my family for this weekend so that we could visit an elderly relative who is undergoing chemo. I had booked the room at a higher flexi rate which allows for cancellation. Unfortunately my family and I fell ill less than 24 hours before we were due to travel to Aberystwyth, so on top of feeling too unwell to travel, we did not want to risk passing on our germs to our relative, and contacted the hotel to cancel. On doing so I was told that, as per the cancellation policy, as we had cancelled less than 48 in advance we would be charged 100% of what we had paid. This came to £428.00 for our 2-night stay (higher than usual school holiday price + flexi rate). Whilst I understand that the 48hour cancellation is their policy, in our case, the circumstances really were beyond our control and I don’t think it would be unreasonable to expect a partial refund or credit. Unfortunately the hotel were adamant that we would be charged the full rate. It is such a shame because we thought we had found a nice hotel that would provide a good base for future visits, however the fact that the hotel would not even offer a partial refund or credit was, given the circumstances, very inflexible, and ended up costing us a lot of money. Things do happen unexpectedly and we don’t want to lose hundreds of pounds should unexpected circumstances arise in future, so we are unlikely to stay here again. So, in short, beware the cancellation policy. There are other hotels in the Aberystwyth area which offer more flexibility.

Menu The.only thing I would advise is to make the menu sound more appetising. Beef pie, cabbage and potatoes doesn't grab me. Also, the pie was fine but the plates were overwhelmed with potatoes, peas and cabbage, far too much and a lot must go to waste!

Very comfortable beds and spacious rooms. We had a family room, and it there was a lot of room to put luggage, a sofa and arm chairs to watch TV, lots of room. Not the cramped family rooms you get in many chains nowadays. Very clean, and the staff were all very helpful and kind. The restaurant provided the usual food, but all good quality - excellent burgers. Vary clean and lovely staff.
