The whole concept of Samara is engaging and wholesome. They have huge ambitions for conservation, many have already been fulfilled. The environment is tranquil and aligned with nature. The concept of the planes camp sitting lightly on the earth is true and the whole experience from start to finish was exactly as we hoped. We did Cheetah tracking on foot, game drives up the mountain and across the reserve. The rangers and trackers were passionate and engaging and the hospitaility of staff was excellent. They were friendly and also very happy to look after us. smiles all round!

The reserve has stunningly beautiful scenery & thanks to our amazing guide/driver Mzi & tracker Michael we were privileged to experience close up sightings of virtually every creature you could imagine. Most special of all was the cheetah tracking (on foot) where we came within about 20metres of mother & her 5 “teenage cubs” - it was mesmerising. Luck was very much on our side as we also had 15min sighting at night of an advark who was busy feeding - brilliant! A “wilderness picnic” in the most awesome setting was utterly memorable. Our Karoo Lodge Suite was beautiful & the meals were fantastic. EVERY single member of staff was super-kind & helpful, so apologies for not naming them all! It was a dream “holiday “ (& action packed). We very much hope to return .

Of the best Safari's we have done in many years. Loved the Karoo and open plains. Our guides were great and we saw exceptional game. Understand that if you book the tented camp, while luxurious - it is still a tented bush experience. For us it was 100% , but may not be everyone's taste. Enjoy.

from the moment we arrived, i could tell this was 5 star and more, the staff Veronica and Koos meet us at the steps, and it continued to be one of the best experiences we have had. Clayton and Veronica arranged for our lodge, and what a lodge, number 8. Light, spotless, magnificent views, you just wanted to sit on the stoep and watch the sun come up and go down, and the animals all around you. The meals were exceptional, i have to mention the staff Whelmey, Candice, Geraldine, Nokuthula and Jannie, they were always there and also recognized your space. Clayton and Emille at the bar were fantastic. Our guide and tracker their knowledge was superb. We have been to many lodges, in Botswana, Sabi etc, and Samara is up there with the best. You will not be disappointed with this lodge; you must stay for at least 3/4 nights to enjoy the surroundings and the night sky.

Samara is a place of big spaces and big skies, a place to switch off from the busy world around. My stay (2 nights in Plains Camp, 2 nights in the Lodge) was a wonderful few days of getting back to nature, making new friends, with a touch of luxury. The safari game drives were incredible, with your eyes and mind switching to a primordial state looking for wildlife round every corner. The staff, safari guides and hospitality, were all so welcoming, and talking with them you can see how proud they are to be at Samara, and of the community projects Samara is investing back into the local communities. Go, you will not be disappointed.

We have spent the most beautiful, exciting, happy and relaxed days at Samara Karoo Reserve. This is a must visit for all nature loving people, and everybody else, who just needs a break from reality! The food is amazing, the accommodation is super comfy, beautiful and tastefully equipped, and the Reserve is just maintained with love and a purpose. The passion for animals, wildlife and nature is palpable on every turn. We will come again!

This is a hunting facility. Trip advisor should not be supporting this. They hunting jackal, warthog, baboons And many animals. This is not an ethical place. It is mostly aimed at international visitors who pay in dollars and come to our country to hunt our animals.
