This is my second time using Rakuten Stay, following my stay in Chiba.
It's perfect for families as you can easily have a barbecue with the teppanyaki grill and cook your own meals with the tableware, rice cooker, and electric kettle. There are also plenty of facilities equipped, such as a washer/dryer and towels.
As it's brand new, it's extremely clean.
I would like to continue using Rakuten Stays in other locations in the future.
I also enjoyed the fantastic atmosphere of the fog at night.

Make yourself at home in one of the 4 air-conditioned rooms featuring LCD televisions. Satellite television is provided for your entertainment. Shared bathrooms are provided.
It is a lodge run by the senior madam, about 15 minutes walk from the station ~ 20 minutes.
The bath was a rock bath and was reserved (30 minutes). It was clean with a large bath.
The room was on the mountain side, so it felt a bit dark, but the bed was good.
The dinner was very delicious with charcoal-fired grilled meat and fish. The plum sake of the aperitif was also the best.
It was a very quiet and nice lodge.
Above all, Madame was a nice person.

GGuest UserThe whole place is very warm and super Japanese, as if you are in Chibi Maruko-chan and Nobita's home!
The lady boss was super nice. After asking us where we wanted to go, she also recommended how we should get there.
If have chance, i will go back again🥰
NNieva MayThe place is a 25-30 minute walk from the Tobu Nikko station, but you can actually take bus going there. However we didn't know the buses only run until 3 in the afternoon so we had no choice but to walk an uphill road. However it was a very fun experience and the hike was worth it as soon as we were able to take a rest in this humble pension house. The owner was very accommodating, gave us strawberry ice cream and even offered us a ride to the station the next morning. I would say that this place gave us the best definition of ”omotenashi”. Someday when we go back in Nikko , we'll surely stay here once again.
GGuest UserThe guesthouse is quite a way from Nikko town (10-15 mins by bus / 1 hour walk) but is in a good location for getting to the shrines or to Lake Ashi - there's a bus stop close by. The guesthouse was homely and had 2 private onsen. Our room was comfortable enough although the en-suite was very tiny! The host was welcoming but didn't speak any English which meant we had to communicate by translating on our phones. We booked to have breakfast at the guesthouse, but didn't realise that for booking the dinner we needed to give 24 hours+ notice so missed out!
GGuest UserA very atmospheric homestay in the mountains, with many foreigners staying. There is a stove in the lobby on the first floor. The weather was over 10 degrees, and they also prepared electric blankets, which made the sleep very comfortable. The air outside was fresh and the surrounding scenery was also very good. I went out for a walk in the morning~
GGuest UserAdvantages: The owner is very friendly. There are public hot water machines and tea bags and microwave refrigerators on the floor. There are two free private hot springs to choose from. Bathing things can be remembered and then go. Because after all, it is not a hot spring hotel. The next day, the snow shop owner personally drives. We went and gave clear instructions. Breakfast must be booked, the dining environment is warm and the breakfast is hearty, delicious! Disadvantages: The room is small, the toilet is not smart, it is 15 minutes drive from the Nikko Station. It is very far away. You must catch the bus before 7:00, otherwise you will have a car at 11:00.
GGuest UserThere are too few reviews of small Japanese homestays. Every time an order is placed, it is like opening a blind box. After opening this one, it is informational and highly recommended. The sanitary conditions and hot spring facilities meet expectations. The biggest surprise is the location. It is actually located at the door of the niche and unique regretful Yuan. Put down your luggage. One person went to the empty attraction and walked around quickly. The sound of running water was in his ears. In front of him was a row of different-looking sitting on the ground. Bodhisattva, Quite mysterious experience. Going to the station, a bit inconvenient, take a taxi back and forth, the price is acceptable, about 1,500 yen a way.

GGuest UserWe had a great stay with Yoshiko-san. She was warm and friendly and gave us great tips and recommendations. The house is very conveniently located near the major temples, Kanmangafuchi abyss, and the bus route. The house was also very comfortable, a taste of real Japanese living!

JJoboboWe spent three wonderful nights here. The host is very kind and attentive, cooks an excellent breakfast (which he can make vegetarian if needed), and offers a shuttle service to the city center included in the reservation.
The rooms are very clean, spacious, and well-equipped.
To top it all off, you can even enjoy one of the many private hot tubs.
In short, I would have gladly given it a sixth star if I could!
