Taipei Main Station is one of Taipei’s main transport hubs, connecting the Taipei Metro, Taiwan Railways, Taiwan High Speed Rail, Taoyuan Airport MRT and long-distance buses. Since the station complex is large and has several exit systems, this guide will help you find each train service, plan transfers and choose the correct exit.

Taipei Main Station is the city’s largest transport hub and a convenient starting point for exploring Taipei and other parts of Taiwan. The large station complex connects several transport services and is surrounded by shopping, dining and accommodation options.

Understanding the Taipei Main Station Map
Taipei Main Station is not just one building. It is a large transport complex made up of several stations, underground passages, malls and bus terminals.
Main Taipei Station Building
The main station building contains the Taiwan Railways and Taiwan High Speed Rail ticketing areas, waiting areas, platforms, restaurants and shops.
The large central hall is on the ground floor. Taiwan Railways and THSR trains operate from underground platforms beneath the station.
Taipei Metro Station
Taipei Main Station is served by two Taipei Metro lines:
- Tamsui-Xinyi Line, Red Line, station code R10
- Bannan Line, Blue Line, station code BL12
The Taipei Metro area is connected to the main railway building through underground passages. Follow the red or blue line signs instead of following only the words “Taipei Main Station.”
Taoyuan Airport MRT A1 Station
The Taoyuan Airport MRT uses a separate station called A1 Taipei Main Station. It is located west of the main railway building and is connected through an underground walkway.
Allow around 10 to 15 minutes when walking between the main station and Airport MRT A1, especially when carrying luggage.
Taipei Bus Station
Taipei Bus Station is located north of the main railway building, beside Q Square. It serves intercity buses travelling to destinations outside central Taipei.
Check your bus company, floor and boarding platform carefully because different operators may use different areas.
Underground Shopping Areas
Several underground shopping streets connect to Taipei Main Station:
- Taipei City Mall, Y Zone
- Station Front Metro Mall, Z Zone
- Zhongshan Metro Mall, R Zone
- K Underground Mall, K Zone
Each underground mall uses its own letter and exit number. Taipei City Mall uses yellow Y signs, while Station Front Metro Mall uses Z signs.

Train Lines at Taipei Main Station
Taipei Metro Tamsui-Xinyi Line
The Tamsui-Xinyi Line is shown in red on Taipei Metro maps. From Taipei Main Station, this line provides access to areas such as:

The Bannan Line is the easiest option for reaching Ximending, Longshan Temple, Taipei City Hall and the shopping areas along Zhongxiao East Road.
Taiwan Railways
Taiwan Railways, commonly called TRA, operates local, regional and long-distance trains from Taipei Main Station.
You can use TRA trains for destinations such as:
- Ruifang
- Keelung
- Yilan
- Hualien
- Taitung
- Taoyuan
- Hsinchu
- Miaoli
- Taichung
Travellers visiting Jiufen can take a TRA train from Taipei Main Station to Ruifang Station, then continue by bus or taxi.
Some express trains require reserved tickets. Book early when travelling during weekends, public holidays or busy seasons.
Taiwan High Speed Rail
Taiwan High Speed Rail, commonly called THSR or HSR, is the fastest way to travel between Taipei and cities along Taiwan’s west coast.
Popular destinations include:
- Banqiao

- Hsinchu
- Taichung
- Chiayi
- Tainan
- Zuoying in Kaohsiung
Important: THSR Taoyuan Station is not located inside Taoyuan International Airport. Passengers using THSR Taoyuan must transfer to the Taoyuan Airport MRT to reach the airport terminals.
Taoyuan Airport MRT
The Taoyuan Airport MRT connects A1 Taipei Main Station with Taoyuan International Airport.
Two types of trains are available:
Express Train
The Express Train stops at fewer stations and is the fastest option. The journey takes around 35 minutes from Terminal 1 to Taipei Main Station and around 38 minutes from Terminal 2.
Commuter Train
The Commuter Train stops at every station. The full journey to Taipei Main Station normally takes around 50 minutes.
Both Express and Commuter trains serve Airport Terminal 1 and Terminal 2.

M Exits
The M exits belong to the Taipei Metro section. Taipei Main Station has exits M1 to M8.

Taipei City Mall has Y1 to Y28 exits. Check the yellow signs carefully when walking through the underground mall.

Z exits belong to Station Front Metro Mall. These exits lead towards:

- Office buildings
- Hotels south of the station

Airport MRT Exits
Airport MRT A1 has its own numbered exits. These are different from the Taipei Metro M exits.
Use the Airport MRT exit numbers when going to Zhengzhou Road, Chongqing North Road or the western side of the station complex.

How to Transfer at Taipei Main Station
Taipei Metro to Taiwan Railways
After leaving the Taipei Metro ticket gate, follow signs marked TRA, Taiwan Railways or 台鐵.
Allow at least 10 minutes for the transfer. Leave more time if you need to collect a reserved ticket or find a specific train platform.
Taipei Metro to Taiwan High Speed Rail
Follow signs marked THSR, HSR, High Speed Rail or 高鐵.
The THSR ticket gates and platforms are inside the main railway station. Allow around 10 to 15 minutes for the transfer.
Main Station to Airport MRT A1
Follow the purple Airport MRT signs or signs marked Taoyuan Airport MRT.
The Airport MRT station is connected through the underground area near Taipei City Mall. The walk may take 10 to 15 minutes with luggage.
Main Station to Taipei Bus Station
Follow signs for Taipei Bus Station or Q Square. The bus terminal is north of the main railway building.
Check your ticket for the correct floor and boarding platform before going to the waiting area.
✈️ Airport Tip: Do not wait until the last minute to transfer from another train to Airport MRT A1. The walk through the underground station can take longer when the area is crowded.
In-Town Check-In at Airport MRT A1
Selected airlines may offer in-town check-in at the B1 level of Airport MRT A1 Taipei Main Station.
Eligible passengers may be able to:
- Check in for their flight
- Print a boarding pass
- Drop off checked luggage
- Travel to the airport without carrying checked bags
The service is only available for eligible flights departing from Taoyuan International Airport on the same day. Airline participation, service times, baggage rules and check-in deadlines may change.

See the Main Station Hall
The large central hall is one of the most recognisable parts of Taipei Main Station. Look up to see the high ceiling and the upper floors surrounding the open hall.

Shop at Taipei City Mall
Taipei City Mall is a long underground shopping street connected to the station. Shops sell:

Taipei Main Station has restaurants, cafés, bakeries, convenience stores and takeaway counters on several levels.

Visit the National Taiwan Museum
The National Taiwan Museum is within walking distance of the station. It displays exhibitions related to Taiwan’s history, natural environment and culture.
The museum is beside 228 Peace Memorial Park, making it easy to visit both places in one trip.
Walk Around 228 Peace Memorial Park
This green park has walking paths, ponds, monuments and places to rest. It is a convenient stop between Taipei Main Station, the National Taiwan Museum and Ximending.
Continue to Ximending
Ximending is one stop from Taipei Main Station on the Blue Line. You can also walk there if the weather is comfortable.

We recently stayed at the Dinosaur Kingdom Family Room and transferred to a Premier Twin Room the following day. Overall, we had a wonderful stay. The staff were consistently kind, helpful, and accommodating, which we truly appreciated.
We especially enjoyed the family room—it was thoughtfully designed and perfect for traveling with a young child. I had initially planned for a two-night stay in this room, but unfortunately, renovations were scheduled to begin the following day. This was a bit disappointing, as it made our time there feel quite short, especially with other activities already planned during our trip.
In comparison to other five-star hotels we’ve stayed in, I did find the lack of flexibility with early check-in a bit surprising, particularly for the themed room. We had hoped to settle in earlier, and similarly, the following day’s transfer to the Premier room was not available early as it was fully booked. While this was different from what I’m used to, I do understand that this may be part of their standard protocol.
On a positive note, we loved the buffet, and the rooms were very comfortable. The complimentary drinks were a nice touch, and the playroom area was excellent—clearly designed with families in mind. It was also lovely to see the hotel organizing activities for children. During our stay, there was a special event (like a children’s appreciation day?), where me and my baby were able to participate in arts and crafts and even received small prizes, which made the experience extra memorable.
The swimming pool was decent, though not very large, and the water was quite cold, so we ended up enjoying the bathtub instead.
One area for improvement would be cleanliness. We noticed visible dust in the room, which was concerning—especially since the room is designed for small children, and for someone like me who is diagnosed with allergies to multiple types of dust mites. I did raise this with Lara at the lobby, who kindly apologized and mentioned she would inform housekeeping. However, upon transferring rooms the next day, I still noticed dust in certain areas, which made me question the thoroughness of the cleaning.
Separately, I also observed that some toiletries (such as conditioner and lotion) were nearly empty upon arrival, suggesting they may not have been checked or replenished prior to our stay.
Despite these points, we genuinely had a pleasant experience overall and would consider returning. I’m also excited and curious to see what the next theme for the family rooms will be after the renovations.FromDKK 1,811

The room was very clean, and the front desk service was excellent! They gave us very detailed travel advice. It's also in a very convenient location for sightseeing, with Longshan Temple and Mengjia Night Market nearby. There are some affordable local eateries right next to the hotel, and getting to Ximending and other attractions is super easy. This is probably the most cost-effective hotel in Taipei. The room size is decent, but it's definitely showing its age. There was a stale, sweaty smell in both the room and the hallway. The executive lounge service was excellent, no complaints there. However, the front desk service on the first floor was absolutely terrible. An elderly lady couldn't hear what the staff member was saying, and the short-haired staff member repeated herself several times with extreme impatience, then threw things and rolled her eyes, which was quite disgusting. Hotel Papa Whale in Ximending is a good, quiet, original hotel for short stays, a 7 minute walk from the busy streets and ”The Red House”. I got this room for 1.125 NTD a night. But make sure you ask for a ”Double Elegant Room” on the third floor. The room I was first given on second floor smelled damp. I did not try the hotel dining or breakfast but you can walk from inside the hotel straight into a Starbucks for breakfast. The rooms have a unique, rough but elegant vintage industrial look with good size wall mounted TV, comfortable beds and nice three piece bathrooms with good water pressure. I had a pleasant stay at ILLUME TAIPEI and overall it was a good experience. The hotel is in a very convenient location, close to Taipei Arena MRT station, restaurants, convenience stores, shopping malls, and supermarkets. It is easy to travel around Taipei by MRT or Uber, making it a great base for both business and leisure trips.
The room was spacious, comfortable, and clean. The bed was comfortable, and the Wi-Fi connection was stable throughout my stay. I also liked the gym and swimming pool facilities, which were well maintained. The hotel staff were friendly and helpful whenever I had questions.
A useful tip for future guests is that Taiwan has reduced the use of disposable amenities for environmental reasons. Pros: Big room and great location right next to public transit and ximending. Hotel lobby and dining looks nice and clean. Cons: carpets in hallways have really old, huge stains. We found a cockroach in our room around midnight crawling by the vents on the ceiling. We couldn't reach it so we tried to call reception and the phone was busy for a good while. We finally went down in person to ask for some help and they said they would send someone in 10 minutes. Half an hour later we checked in again and just asked for a new room at this point since the roach had crawled into the vents and we didn't know when it would come out again. They finally sent someone to our room while we were packing and sprayed the room with a liquid that supposedly kills roaches. He targeted the vents where we last saw the roach, and a few minutes later the roach came crawling back out. Luckily our guy was still in the room and he caught it for us. We decided not to change rooms since we were leaving soon anyway. Who knows if the roach had a family up in the vents or not. Hygiene: There's a magnetic sticker on the door, so you can request daily cleaning. The housekeeping staff are incredibly efficient; the room was sparkling clean by the time I finished breakfast.
Facilities: The room isn't small, and the window offers a view of Ximending street. It has a smart TV for screen mirroring, so you can watch Netflix and YouTube. The bathroom has a separate wet and dry area. Disposable slippers are provided, but not disposable toothbrushes, toothpaste, or shower caps. The soundproofing is good, but the air conditioning fan is too loud, even on the lowest setting. The breakfast menu changes daily and is mostly Western. Free drinks and snacks are available from afternoon to evening.
Environment: It's right next to Ximen MRT Station, and there's a bus stop nearby that goes to almost all city attractions. Ximending is just around the corner, very lively at night with lots of food options. Downstairs, there's a Hello Kitty themed 7-Eleven, an Animate manga store, and a Family Mart.
Service: The front desk staff are all very patient and enthusiastic, with excellent service attitudes. Free luggage storage is available.

It's just over 100 meters from Exit 1 of Zhongxiao Xinsheng MRT Station, and only two stops from Taipei Main Station. Getting to Taoyuan Airport by express train takes less than an hour. There are multiple FamilyMart and 7-Eleven stores nearby, plus a Don Quijote. The hotel used to be a bank vault, so the decor is quite unique. They offer welcome drinks and a free snack buffet. It's only 500 meters from Fuhang Soy Milk and just 200 meters from Simple Kaffa, the world champion coffee shop, along with other cafes – all within walking distance. Huashan 1914 Creative Park is right next door. Overall, it's an incredibly convenient hotel. The soundproofing is decent; I slept well without much noise from the street or cars. The hotel's location is only two stops from Taipei Main Station. It's just a 20-second walk from the MRT exit to the hotel. Use a swimwear that you intend to toss afterwards because of the sulphur smell cus the milktea looking onsen water smell will linger. The attentive staff remembered small details that made us feel especially well cared for, such as our shuttle bus bookings and even my preferred drink, which was served to me each morning when I arrived at the restaurant for breakfast. The shuttle bus drivers were also extremely friendly and always looked out for our comfort and well-being.
Breakfast was served semi-buffet style, with a delicious spread. I particularly enjoyed the fresh and varied salad bar and honestly, the food was worth every calorie! We also tried the Alice in Wonderland afternoon tea, which was beautifully presented and a very interesting experience.
Our room was large, spacious and extremely comfortable. The luxurious Bvlgari toiletries were the perfect finishing touch.
The main purpose of our stay was to enjoy the onsen and it certainly did not disappoint. It was fabulous, peaceful and not too crowded, which made the experience even more calming and soothing.

Whenever we get the chance, I try to take my family on trips while we can still gather together. This time, we visited Yangmingshan and Beitou, and it was actually my first time truly staying in Beitou. Before, most of my visits here were for work, like setting up a stall at the Beitou Market, always a quick in-and-out.
But I've always heard great things about Beitou's hot spring hotels, and my mother often mentioned this place, so I arranged this short trip for the weekend.
We stayed at Hotel Royal Beitou, and it was my first time experiencing the 'Hotel Royal' brand. In the past, I'd only dined at their properties in Taitung and Jiaoxi, and my impression of the brand has always been one of quality and meticulous service.
After actually staying there, it certainly lived up to its reputation. From the facilities to the service, you could feel their attention to detail. The activities arranged by the hotel, in particular, were quite different from typical hot spring hotels – things like escape rooms, yoga classes, and night tours made the stay more than just a place to sleep for a night.
The rooftop hot spring bath, though not huge, had a very comfortable atmosphere. It's a shame you couldn't see much of the scenery at night; otherwise, it would have been even better.
Since we love hot springs, we really pay attention to the amenities and toiletries. The lounge here offers iced tea and ice cream, and the toiletries in the bathing area are top-notch, even including scalp and facial care products.
Also, the room used a 'Sleeptofu' mattress and pillows, which were incredibly comfortable – easily one of the best night's sleep I've had recently.

But it's comfortable, sanitary and has a nice homey vibe. If you're staying for more then one day, I recommend that you tried the the local markets for a breakfast one day. The hotel breakfast is satisfactory. You'll see some buns, some rice, soy milk, a few vegetable options, some sausages, and a little bit of Western food. Very simple and gets the job one if you're not in the mood to explore. I came alone and I felt safe in a really enjoyed my time. I recommend you hike some of the local trails. A Serious Failure in Management and Guest Service
I have never experienced this level of poor service and lack of management oversight at a hotel.
Throughout my stay, I had to repeatedly request housekeeping, yet my room was still not cleaned as expected. More seriously, there was even an occasion when I needed to use the bathroom and discovered that there was no toilet paper available.
I immediately brought this issue to the attention of the front desk. However, despite making a formal complaint, the exact same problem occurred again the following day.
At that point, this could no longer reasonably be considered a simple oversight or an isolated housekeeping mistake. The hotel had already been made aware of the problem, yet nothing appeared to have been done to prevent it from happening again.
The most disappointing part is that these issues continued until the day I checked out. After repeatedly reporting the same problems without seeing any meaningful improvement, I eventually stopped complaining simply because I no longer believed that doing so would make any difference.
A hotel may occasionally make a mistake — that is understandable. What is unacceptable is failing to correct a problem after a guest has already brought it to management's attention. This reflects a serious breakdown in communication between departments, inadequate supervision, and a lack of accountability at the management level.
Basic housekeeping and essential bathroom supplies are not unreasonable requests. They are fundamental standards that guests should be able to expect without having to repeatedly chase the hotel for them.
What concerns me most is that the hotel appeared to have multiple opportunities to correct the situation, yet failed to do so. This suggests that the issue is not simply with an individual staff member, but with the way the hotel’s service operations are being managed and supervised.
This experience seriously damaged my trust in the hotel and left me with a very negative impression of its overall management and service standards. A hotel’s reputation is built on how it treats guests, especially when something goes wrong. Unfortunately, in this case, the hotel failed not only to deliver basic service, but also to respond effectively when those failures were brought to its attention.
I sincerely hope management does not dismiss this as a minor housekeeping issue. The repeated nature of these problems, combined with the lack of effective follow-up, represents a significant management failure and can seriously damage guest trust, customer satisfaction, and ultimately the hotel’s reputation.

Every year, I return to Taiwan and stay in different hotels due to various circumstances (also because I like to try new things).
This year, Eclat Hotel pretty much solidified my future choices in Taipei.
The location is unbeatable (I changed my flight due to a typhoon, so I randomly picked it without paying much attention to the address, just saw it was Zhongxiao East Road and went for it).
Turns out, it's right on Zhongxiao East Road, in the Dinghao commercial district, with excellent access to everything. I even walked to Yanji Street every night for late-night snacks. Downstairs, there's a beverage shop on each side, and directly across the street is the 24-hour Jingxing Teahouse.
Don't even get me started on Starbucks and bakeries.
The subway entrance is right outside the door.
The rooms are spacious and quiet, and the 13th and 14th floors are high enough.
It's positioned as an economy hotel (inn), so unless you absolutely need a luxurious and bright lobby, I honestly can't think of a reason not to stay here again, haha.
If I had to find a flaw, I'd offer a small suggestion:

Facilities: There's a 7-Eleven nearby and a FamilyMart right across the street, which is quite convenient overall. However, it's a bit far from the subway station, at least a 15-minute walk. The hotel can help call a taxi.
Service: The service was good. On the first day, my room had a very strong perfume smell, which made me uncomfortable as soon as I entered. I immediately contacted the front desk to request a room change. After about a 10-minute wait, staff assisted me in successfully changing rooms! Throughout my stay, all my needs were met to my satisfaction!

Location was 3 mins from the train station which takes you to most places and around the area there are lots of shops, restaurants and a market, it’s about 15 minutes walk from the popular food night market. The hotel also has a motel attached and we stayed in the motel which has its own car park. The room was very spacious and the bathroom was massive with Jacuzzi tub, steam shower and sofa. It’s a bit dark in the room itself and free bottles of water provided. The breakfast wasn’t great but doable if included in the price. Sound proof was good, never heard anyone and there was a big karaoke place next door. The room does need a bit of maintenance as you can see it’s a bit worn down and the only light comes from the bathroom but it’s opposite a residential building so can’t really have the curtains up if your not dressed. There’s no door to the bathroom only a curtain which I find a bit at strange. Staff was friendly and check in and check out went smoothly. The hotel is quite far from the MRT station (even though the information says it’s a 5-minute walk it actually feels longer than that). However, taking the bus is much more convenient since the bus stop is less than a 2-minute walk from the hotel. There’s also a 7-Eleven and FamilyMart about 3 minutes away.
The room size was decent. The walls weren’t very soundproof, as I could hear noise from the room next door and upstairs.
Housekeeping didn’t change the bed sheets or pillowcases during my stay only the duvet cover and bathroom towels were replaced. However, since the room wasn’t particularly messy, I wasn’t too bothered by it.
There are washing machines on the rooftop, which was very helpful, especially if you travel during rainy days (I experienced rain for 2 days and 2 nights out of my 4-day trip 😂).

The service, food, hot spring tub were excellent and the staff was very attentive. The only thing I wish could have been better is the outlets to plug my phone into. We couldn’t find one in the bedroom/sleep quarters (Japanese tatami). So make sure to bring a portable charger if you don’t want to be away from your phone. Another advice would be more of a treat if they provided a face mask and sleep wear. The reason I’d suggest this is because another competitor hotel of theirs provided very considerate toiletries for the ladies and I think that was a HUGE plus for me considering we spent a lot of money for one night. Anyways, overall villa 32 is great if you just want to spend a few hours to relax.

Our overall stay at the Hotel Junpin was excellent. The location is incredibly convenient, right near Taipei Main Station, making it easy to access the High-Speed Rail, regular trains, and the MRT. This Hotel is a perfect choice, rooms are very spacious, bathroom is huge, location is great, it's close and easy to walk to Zongshan MRT station and this area has lots of great retail stores and restaurants , Taipei main station is walk-able around 1.2Km but if you are tired you will take a taxi, very convenient to take the express MRT from airport to Taipei main station in 35 minutes, there is a big supermarket right next to the hotel having very good stuff, there are a lot of 7 eleven and family mart stores around you, if you are a gym guy there are lots of 24h gyms near the hotel...also there is a 24h self service laundry store in front of the hotel....breakfast is great, I'm a egg lover guy and they serve perfect scrambled eggs, they also serve pineapples, passion fruit, home made yogurt and lots of good stuff, they have some Chinese items that you may not like, overall their breakfast is perfect....you can enjoy 24h free freshly brewed coffee at their lobby whenever you want and it's great....the only downside I noticed in their rooms is the lake of power outlets, there is only one row of power outlets on the front desk of the room, there are no outlets beside your bed or any where else which was really uncomfortable if you would like to charge your mobile or laptop while sitting on the bed.....sorry for my long review but I just enjoyed my stay there and wanted to share my experience in detailsFromDKK 433

It was my first time in Taipei, and the front desk staff upgraded our room to one with a 101 view (don't be shy about asking, they'll do their best to accommodate you!). The service was excellent; someone always opened the door for us when we entered. The room was very clean and odorless, and the bed was large and comfortable. It took me until the third night to realize it was actually two beds pushed together 😂. I have no idea where they got the duvet, but it was 2 meters long and incredibly cozy! The hotel is very close to the subway station and not far from attractions. I specifically chose the option without breakfast because I can never wake up early enough. When we checked in, there was a small Coke and a Pocari Sweat that were complimentary! At 900 RMB per night, it's a good price for this location. Amazing hotel, best I've stayed in Taipei thus far!
Location: By far not the nearest hotel to the city center, and require a bit of walking to the nearest bus stop/mrt station. But have a good selection of vibey cafe at the back of the hotel.
Room: The room was very clean and comfortable. The layout was very spacious with provision of water and even a Nespresso machine for a quick pick-me-up. The beds were super comfortable and the room even came with a JBL speaker for you to play your songs on the radio too.
Toilet: Cleanliness was a 10/10. Love the interesting layout, the shower pressure was perfect and the toilet itself comes equipped with an automatic bidet and a variety of functions. Shampoo and soap was also quite good. Did not manage to try the bath tub.
Breakfast: Don't skip out on the breakfast buffet!! Even though we were in Taipei looking for local food, the buffet is worth it! Last order at 10am, there is the standard buffet spread with some of Taiwan's classic (卤肉饭/Lu Rou Fan). But the main star is the buffet menu, there are 6 dishes to order from omelette, scramble eggs, chicken thigh .etc. The main thing is the beef noodles, super delicious, with a clear and thick broth and a healthy portion of noodles and meat.
Staff: The hotel's staff are super courteous and friendly, welcoming us to the hotel and giving a homely vibe to the stay. They are also super efficient, tidying our room up when we went down for breakfast, the room was spotless with towel replacements in less than 30 mins.
