Author's Profile Picture

Singapore is a popular getaway for many Filipinos, offering a nice mix of modern city life and cultural charm. You can explore famous spots like Marina Bay Sands, Gardens by the Bay, and Universal Studios, or take a slower walk through Chinatown and Little India, where you’ll feel more of the city’s traditional side. Everything is easy to reach with their clean and simple transport system, which makes moving around stress-free even for first-time visitors.

For food lovers, Singapore is like a big food trip. Hawker centres serve affordable and tasty meals like Hainanese chicken rice, laksa, and satay—perfect for Pinoy taste buds. Shopping is also a big part of the experience, whether you’re checking out luxury malls in Orchard Road or hunting for souvenirs and affordable finds at Bugis Street and Mustafa Centre. Safe, organized, and tourist-friendly, Singapore is an easy choice for Filipinos looking for a fun yet comfortable vacation.

Do Filipinos Need a Visa for Singapore?

Gardens by the Bay

Good news for Filipino travelers—you do not need a visa to enter Singapore for short trips! If you’re staying for 30 days or less, you can simply book your flight, pack your bags, and go.

Whether you're visiting family, going on a holiday, or just curious to explore places like Universal Studios, Gardens by the Bay, or Marina Bay Sands, entering Singapore is simple for Philippine passport holders.

Here’s what you need to prepare:

  • A passport valid for at least 6 months
  • A roundtrip ticket (to show you’re coming back)
  • Proof of where you’ll stay (hotel booking, address of a friend or relative)
  • Sometimes, proof of funds (just in case immigration asks)

When you land, you’ll go through immigration as usual. Just answer questions honestly and confidently—they usually ask why you're visiting, where you're staying, and when you're flying back.

Visa Tips for Filipinos Staying in Singapore Longer Than a Short Trip

Sentosa

What starts as a short visit to Singapore can sometimes turn into a longer stay. Maybe you're visiting family, thinking about working, or studying here. If you're planning to stay in Singapore beyond the usual 30 days allowed for tourists, here are some real options to consider:

👉 Types of Visas You Can Apply for:

1. Short-Term Visit Pass Extension

If you're in Singapore as a tourist and want to stay longer, you can apply for an extension of your short-term visit pass. This can give you up to 30 more days. You need to apply before your current pass expires, usually through the Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) website. Approval depends on your reason for extension.

2. Long-Term Visit Pass (Family or Partner Sponsor)

If you have family members working or living in Singapore (like a spouse or parent), they can apply to sponsor you for a Long-Term Visit Pass. This is common for Filipinos who want to stay with their loved ones for a longer period.

3. Work Pass / Work Permit

Found a job? Congrats! Your employer in Singapore will process your work permit or Employment Pass (EP), depending on the job type and salary. Once your work pass is approved, you can live and work legally in Singapore. Many Filipinos enter as tourists and switch to a work pass after securing a job, but remember—you should not work without a valid work permit.

4. Student Pass

Planning to study in Singapore? Schools or training centers that accept you can help process a Student Pass. This allows you to stay in Singapore legally while completing your studies.

5. Dependent Pass

If your spouse or parent works in Singapore and holds a valid work pass, they can sponsor you under a Dependent Pass. This is common for Filipino families who want to stay together.

How to Apply for a Singapore Pass or Visa

Marina Bay

If you're a Filipino planning to stay in Singapore for more than just a short vacation—whether for work, study, or to join family—here’s a clear, step-by-step guide to help you apply for the right pass. No confusing terms, just real steps you can follow.

✈️ STEP 1: Know What You Need

Ask yourself:

  • Are you going to work? You need a Work Pass (like Work Permit, S Pass, or Employment Pass).
  • Are you studying? You need a Student Pass.
  • Joining family or a partner? You need a Dependent Pass or Long-Term Visit Pass (LTVP).
  • Just visiting? No visa needed. You’ll get a Short-Term Visit Pass when you arrive.

📝 STEP 2: Find a Sponsor (For Work, Study, or Stay)

In Singapore, you cannot apply on your own for work or long-term passes.
You need a company, school, or family member in Singapore to apply for you:

  • Work – Employer applies.
  • Study – School applies.
  • Family – Spouse, parent, or partner applies.

They will process your application through Singapore's official government websites.

📄 STEP 3: Prepare Your Documents

Common documents you’ll need:

  • Valid Philippine passport (6 months valid)
  • Passport-size photo
  • Birth or marriage certificate (for family cases)
  • School acceptance letter (for students)
  • Job contract or offer letter (for work pass)
  • Other personal documents, depending on your case

Tip: Keep scanned copies ready, as most applications are done online.

💻 STEP 4: Application is Submitted Online

Your employer, school, or family member will apply through:

  • Ministry of Manpower (MOM) website for work passes
    www.mom.gov.sg
  • Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) for Student Pass, LTVP, Dependent Pass
    www.ica.gov.sg

You just wait while they process your application.

STEP 5: Wait for Approval

Once approved, you will receive an In-Principle Approval (IPA) letter. This is like your entry pass. Print it.

Processing time:

  • Work Pass – around 3 to 8 weeks
  • Student Pass – 1 to 4 weeks
  • Family Pass – varies, usually 4 to 6 weeks

🛬 STEP 6: Fly to Singapore

Once you have your IPA letter, book your flight.

At the airport immigration:

  • Show your IPA letter
  • Present your passport
  • Answer questions if asked (about your work, studies, or family)

You’ll get a short visit pass first, then complete your pass formalities after arrival.

🏢 STEP 7: Settle Pass Formalities in Singapore

Once inside Singapore, you’ll be asked to:

  • Go for a medical check-up (for work passes)
  • Register your fingerprints and photo at the ICA
  • Collect your physical pass card (like your ID)

Your sponsor will guide you through this.

I had an absolutely fantastic stay at the Royal Plaza on Scotts! A huge thank you to Mariz at the front office. She is truly exceptional. She went out of her way to ensure my grandmother's check-in was incredibly smooth and stress-free. Even though the front desk was very busy, Mariz remained so calm, smiley, and highly professional. Her dedication to service is outstanding. I must also commend the sweet staff for their attentiveness. I was so touched by the surprise mini birthday cake—it made my day! (The food at the Carousel buffet was also great!). I enjoyed every bit of my stay and would recommend the Royal Plaza on Scotts without hesitation.

💝 Unforgettable memories and impressions that will stay with us for the rest of our lives! 💝 🎶 Eunice Marasigan welcomed us and surrounded us with such care. You will be in our memory for a long time! Do I need to write that this hotel is a symbol of Singapore? Is it necessary to describe the delight of the view from the observation deck and from the pool? You need to see this with your own eyes, because the photo does not convey even half of the beauty that the eye sees. 💸 It is expensive. 💸 ☺️ Marina Bay Sands is my dream come true. I hope I can come back again. 😇

Carlton is located in the middle of the city with easy access to shopping malls, convenience stores, train station. Gym is superb! I used it everyday. Staff were very helpful and friendly. They also have changing room for you to refresh if you have checked out the hotel. The only con is that they don't have bidet in any of the toilet. Overall, it was awesome staying in the hotel. First time in Singapore, I compared several hotels online before finally choosing this one. First of all, the hotel's location is excellent; many popular Instagrammable spots are within walking distance. Directly downstairs is Funan Mall, so you don't even need to leave the hotel if you want to shop. The subway station is also very close to the hotel, which is super convenient. The hotel has two pools, and one of them, the bathtub pool, is very photogenic. The rooms aren't very big but are clean and tidy, with complete amenities, including a coffee machine and a fridge. It's truly great value for money.

The room is spacious, and the king-size bed is very wide. The bathroom is also large, clean, and comfortable. The hotel has a great design aesthetic and is conveniently located in the city center, very close to the main commercial district. You can even see Merlion Park from the balcony. The staff are very friendly and helpful. For my first time in Singapore, I definitely chose the right hotel. Book with confidence, the stay was excellent, and I highly recommend it. I hope they continue to maintain this high standard.

This hotel is centrally located, just a few minutes' walk from multiple MRT stations (like Bras Basah on the Circle Line, etc.), making it incredibly convenient for exploring attractions such as Merlion Park, the National Museum, and Clarke Quay on foot. Compared to other hotels in Singapore, the rooms are quite spacious, and some room types are well-suited for business travelers.

Traveling with my parents, I chose this hotel because I felt the loft rooms wouldn't feel too cramped (hotel rooms in Singapore are generally on the smaller side). It was decent for a family of three. The upstairs area was okay; we could fit one or two suitcases and there was a chair. Downstairs, there was no seating other than the bed. The mattress was a bit soft, making it a bit of an effort for the person sleeping inside to get out. Coffee and tea bags were provided. Just a short walk from the hotel's parking area is the Singapore River, surrounded by many dining options (mostly Western cuisine). There were quite a few people exercising and cycling. It's a bit of a walk to the MRT station, but there's a smaller food court about 600 meters away where we had several meals. Overall, the hotel is quite clean and new. However, the air freshener scent in the hallway outside the elevator was quite strong initially, though it improved over the next few days. The lobby scent was fine. Plus, there are several 7-Eleven stores nearby, making it very convenient for buying things. Overall, our stay was quite good, and the housekeeping was very clean.

I booked this hotel during a promotion, and for just over 600 SGD, it's a pretty good deal in Singapore. The room size is probably its biggest advantage; it's quite spacious compared to other hotels. The decor is a bit dated, but it's still clean and tidy. The shower is in the bathtub, which isn't the most convenient. There's a water dispenser in the common area outside the room, so you can fill up your cup or bottle. It's about a five to six-minute walk to Clarke Quay MRT station, and Chinatown and Fort Canning are both within a few kilometers.

However a bidet will be superb added feature for the WC. The projector was unique to have instead of a TV .. just that the viewing angle is a lil too high. We had some problem login to Netflix ... But staff was fast in responding. Overall .... Very good location for staycay ..... With kiddos .... So much option for food as well. Kids can't wait to come again

My room was so cool, cozy, and functional. Perfect for solo staycations. The location was superb. Just walking distance to bus stops, mrt, and Vivo City. The pool was smaller than expected and the breakfast was a bit subpar. My first breakfast majority of the foods tasted artificial. The second breakfast day was a bit better. Front desk staff were efficient and welcoming. The view from my room was okay. Had a view of the trees and the road but it was too close as I was on the 4th floor. Pros: The location is absolutely fantastic! There's a bus shuttle right outside the entrance, and you can take the island's buggies for free. The beach is right there for sunset views and swimming. The hotel pool is super comfortable, and there's a small hot spring pool next to it. The restaurant downstairs unexpectedly serves delicious food too. Before booking, I was a bit worried after reading reviews about discrimination, but when I arrived, I found there was none at all. A gentleman at the front desk even spoke a little Chinese, so communication was largely smooth. During your stay, you can ride the Sentosa Express for free. On the day you arrive, before checking in, remember to show your booking confirmation to the staff at the Sentosa Express ticket booth, and they'll let you in for free. It's incredibly close to Universal Studios, just one Sentosa Express stop away – perfect for enjoying yourself to the fullest! 🥰 Cons: The room was really small and old. Our reserved room was on the second floor, directly facing the road. It wasn't noisy, but it was a bit inconvenient for getting to the pool and such. However, the cleanliness was fine, and we didn't encounter many ants, which was lucky, lucky! ☺️ Overall, I'd give it five stars! The pool and the sunset view right outside the entrance were huge pluses. This kind of location on Sentosa Island would typically cost over a thousand, so what more could you ask for? 🥳
