Author's Profile Picture

Singapore is a popular getaway for many Filipinos, offering a nice mix of modern city life and cultural charm. You can explore famous spots like Marina Bay Sands, Gardens by the Bay, and Universal Studios, or take a slower walk through Chinatown and Little India, where you’ll feel more of the city’s traditional side. Everything is easy to reach with their clean and simple transport system, which makes moving around stress-free even for first-time visitors.

For food lovers, Singapore is like a big food trip. Hawker centres serve affordable and tasty meals like Hainanese chicken rice, laksa, and satay—perfect for Pinoy taste buds. Shopping is also a big part of the experience, whether you’re checking out luxury malls in Orchard Road or hunting for souvenirs and affordable finds at Bugis Street and Mustafa Centre. Safe, organized, and tourist-friendly, Singapore is an easy choice for Filipinos looking for a fun yet comfortable vacation.

Do Filipinos Need a Visa for Singapore?

Gardens by the Bay

Good news for Filipino travelers—you do not need a visa to enter Singapore for short trips! If you’re staying for 30 days or less, you can simply book your flight, pack your bags, and go.

Whether you're visiting family, going on a holiday, or just curious to explore places like Universal Studios, Gardens by the Bay, or Marina Bay Sands, entering Singapore is simple for Philippine passport holders.

Here’s what you need to prepare:

  • A passport valid for at least 6 months
  • A roundtrip ticket (to show you’re coming back)
  • Proof of where you’ll stay (hotel booking, address of a friend or relative)
  • Sometimes, proof of funds (just in case immigration asks)

When you land, you’ll go through immigration as usual. Just answer questions honestly and confidently—they usually ask why you're visiting, where you're staying, and when you're flying back.

Visa Tips for Filipinos Staying in Singapore Longer Than a Short Trip

Sentosa

What starts as a short visit to Singapore can sometimes turn into a longer stay. Maybe you're visiting family, thinking about working, or studying here. If you're planning to stay in Singapore beyond the usual 30 days allowed for tourists, here are some real options to consider:

👉 Types of Visas You Can Apply for:

1. Short-Term Visit Pass Extension

If you're in Singapore as a tourist and want to stay longer, you can apply for an extension of your short-term visit pass. This can give you up to 30 more days. You need to apply before your current pass expires, usually through the Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) website. Approval depends on your reason for extension.

2. Long-Term Visit Pass (Family or Partner Sponsor)

If you have family members working or living in Singapore (like a spouse or parent), they can apply to sponsor you for a Long-Term Visit Pass. This is common for Filipinos who want to stay with their loved ones for a longer period.

3. Work Pass / Work Permit

Found a job? Congrats! Your employer in Singapore will process your work permit or Employment Pass (EP), depending on the job type and salary. Once your work pass is approved, you can live and work legally in Singapore. Many Filipinos enter as tourists and switch to a work pass after securing a job, but remember—you should not work without a valid work permit.

4. Student Pass

Planning to study in Singapore? Schools or training centers that accept you can help process a Student Pass. This allows you to stay in Singapore legally while completing your studies.

5. Dependent Pass

If your spouse or parent works in Singapore and holds a valid work pass, they can sponsor you under a Dependent Pass. This is common for Filipino families who want to stay together.

How to Apply for a Singapore Pass or Visa

Marina Bay

If you're a Filipino planning to stay in Singapore for more than just a short vacation—whether for work, study, or to join family—here’s a clear, step-by-step guide to help you apply for the right pass. No confusing terms, just real steps you can follow.

✈️ STEP 1: Know What You Need

Ask yourself:

  • Are you going to work? You need a Work Pass (like Work Permit, S Pass, or Employment Pass).
  • Are you studying? You need a Student Pass.
  • Joining family or a partner? You need a Dependent Pass or Long-Term Visit Pass (LTVP).
  • Just visiting? No visa needed. You’ll get a Short-Term Visit Pass when you arrive.

📝 STEP 2: Find a Sponsor (For Work, Study, or Stay)

In Singapore, you cannot apply on your own for work or long-term passes.
You need a company, school, or family member in Singapore to apply for you:

  • Work – Employer applies.
  • Study – School applies.
  • Family – Spouse, parent, or partner applies.

They will process your application through Singapore's official government websites.

📄 STEP 3: Prepare Your Documents

Common documents you’ll need:

  • Valid Philippine passport (6 months valid)
  • Passport-size photo
  • Birth or marriage certificate (for family cases)
  • School acceptance letter (for students)
  • Job contract or offer letter (for work pass)
  • Other personal documents, depending on your case

Tip: Keep scanned copies ready, as most applications are done online.

💻 STEP 4: Application is Submitted Online

Your employer, school, or family member will apply through:

  • Ministry of Manpower (MOM) website for work passes
    www.mom.gov.sg
  • Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) for Student Pass, LTVP, Dependent Pass
    www.ica.gov.sg

You just wait while they process your application.

STEP 5: Wait for Approval

Once approved, you will receive an In-Principle Approval (IPA) letter. This is like your entry pass. Print it.

Processing time:

  • Work Pass – around 3 to 8 weeks
  • Student Pass – 1 to 4 weeks
  • Family Pass – varies, usually 4 to 6 weeks

🛬 STEP 6: Fly to Singapore

Once you have your IPA letter, book your flight.

At the airport immigration:

  • Show your IPA letter
  • Present your passport
  • Answer questions if asked (about your work, studies, or family)

You’ll get a short visit pass first, then complete your pass formalities after arrival.

🏢 STEP 7: Settle Pass Formalities in Singapore

Once inside Singapore, you’ll be asked to:

  • Go for a medical check-up (for work passes)
  • Register your fingerprints and photo at the ICA
  • Collect your physical pass card (like your ID)

Your sponsor will guide you through this.

Amazing Family-Friendly Stay! We had an overall very good experience staying at the Grand Copthorne Waterfront during our family trip. The hotel is truly family-friendly and made us feel very comfortable. The breakfast was also very good, with a nice variety that our whole family enjoyed. Overall, all the staff were very helpful and professional throughout our stay. Special thanks to Mr. Poh at the reception—he was incredibly friendly and helpful, even assisting us with a room upgrade which we really appreciated! Also, Mr. Vincent at the front door guest service always welcomed us warmly every time we entered or left the hotel. His hospitality made us feel right at home. We couldn’t wait to come back, and we’re already looking forward to our next stay next week in Singapore at this wonderful hotel again!

Every member of the Marina Bay Sands team we encountered went above and beyond, turning what could have been just another hotel stay into an unforgettable experience filled with care, comfort, and heart. A minor accident during our stay—when our daughter tripped over the carpet and had a nosebleed—was handled with exemplary care. The staff member from Express Service prioritized her safety and promptly coordinated housekeeping to assist us. The housekeeping lady who came to help was so humble and kind, even declining a tip for her hard work. Special recognition also goes to Service Management Team, Ms. Ella Barrientos, who followed up with a compassionate call, offered a thoughtful gift to cheer up our daughter, and even took care of cleaning her top. The warmth and humanity she showed meant so much to us, and we would also like to thank the laundry team for their assistance in removing the blood stain so efficiently. Our children’s first visit to Singapore has become a treasured memory thanks to the hotel’s exceptional hospitality.

Services at Carlton Hotel was great! Club lounge staff, Tina, went extra miles to make our dining experience comfortable. Her attention to details was great. Downside was that the mini bar was not restocked fast enough for us to consume. Nevertheless the room stay was comfortable. Room was clean.

We spent 3 nights at the Premiere bay view room on the 17th floor, loved it. The room is updated, the view is eye opening, the king bed is wonderfully comfortable and the hotel location is wonderful - easy walks to city hall metro station and to the water front. Used the gym - was sufficient.

Hotel location is great just above Mrt station Lavender. Walking distance to Bugis street, Haji Lane, Kampung Gelam all behind or pass through 2 junction to arrive. Just next and around the hotel also are foodcourt, cafe, fastfood and pastries which are quite many choices. Staff are at their services. Fast handling solutions. Very efficient service. However the room which I stay ( 1 queen 1 single bed) has a bit of musty smell probably due to air-conditioning and small room , no open window. Otherwise environment all clean.

The loft fit 3 of us perfectly with a queen bed and a single bed upstairs. The separate shower and toilet were convenient for a group. Near hotel there is an array of restaurants and cafes right by the river which was great. The space for luggage was a bit limited though and it was quite far from a MRT station.

Location was alright if you are able to walk a bit to the nearest mrt (Bugis). Room is a little bit smaller in real life compared to the pictures. Otherwise cleanliness is 5/5 and the aircon is superb. Lots of food choices around and a convenient 7-11 nearby. We’ve gotten the first floor and back facing a yard so not much of a scenery. The view from the room was fantastic and definitely a highlight of our stay. The location is also very convenient, which makes it a good choice overall. However, the bathroom, although clean, had an odor coming from the drains. There was also an issue with the door lock which we had to slam it each time to get it to lock properly.

The hotel felt a bit dated overall, and its cleanliness was only mediocre. Rooms are quite small; it felt a bit cramped for a family of three. Be warned: various notices in the room mentioned ants, and true to form, leaving any food out attracted quite a few. Some front desk staff spoke Chinese, but it wasn't consistent across shifts. The pool, however, was a big hit – the kids absolutely loved it. The location was also a definite plus. Although it's slightly set back from the main road, the beach is just across the street, there's a 7-Eleven right next door, and the MRT station is only a few minutes' walk away. Overall, it's a decent option for a relaxing family getaway.
