Singapore is a popular getaway for many Filipinos, offering a nice mix of modern city life and cultural charm. For food lovers, Singapore is like a big food trip. Hawker centres serve affordable and tasty meals like Hainanese chicken rice, laksa, and satay—perfect for Pinoy taste buds. Shopping is also a big part of the experience, whether you’re checking out luxury malls in Orchard Road or hunting for souvenirs and affordable finds at Bugis Street and Mustafa Centre. Safe, organized, and tourist-friendly, Singapore is an easy choice for Filipinos looking for a fun yet comfortable vacation.

Do Filipinos Need a Visa for Singapore?

Gardens by the Bay

Good news for Filipino travelers—you do not need a visa to enter Singapore for short trips! If you’re staying for 30 days or less, you can simply book your flight, pack your bags, and go.

Whether you're visiting family, going on a holiday, or just curious to explore places like Universal Studios, Gardens by the Bay, or Marina Bay Sands, entering Singapore is simple for Philippine passport holders.

Here’s what you need to prepare:

  • A passport valid for at least 6 months
  • A roundtrip ticket (to show you’re coming back)
  • Proof of where you’ll stay (hotel booking, address of a friend or relative)
  • Sometimes, proof of funds (just in case immigration asks)

When you land, you’ll go through immigration as usual. Just answer questions honestly and confidently—they usually ask why you're visiting, where you're staying, and when you're flying back.

Visa Tips for Filipinos Staying in Singapore Longer Than a Short Trip

Sentosa

What starts as a short visit to Singapore can sometimes turn into a longer stay. Maybe you're visiting family, thinking about working, or studying here. If you're planning to stay in Singapore beyond the usual 30 days allowed for tourists, here are some real options to consider:

👉 Types of Visas You Can Apply for:

1. Short-Term Visit Pass Extension

If you're in Singapore as a tourist and want to stay longer, you can apply for an extension of your short-term visit pass. This can give you up to 30 more days. You need to apply before your current pass expires, usually through the Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) website. Approval depends on your reason for extension.

2. Long-Term Visit Pass (Family or Partner Sponsor)

If you have family members working or living in Singapore (like a spouse or parent), they can apply to sponsor you for a Long-Term Visit Pass. This is common for Filipinos who want to stay with their loved ones for a longer period.

3. Work Pass / Work Permit

Found a job? Congrats! Your employer in Singapore will process your work permit or Employment Pass (EP), depending on the job type and salary. Once your work pass is approved, you can live and work legally in Singapore. Many Filipinos enter as tourists and switch to a work pass after securing a job, but remember—you should not work without a valid work permit.

4. Student Pass

Planning to study in Singapore? Schools or training centers that accept you can help process a Student Pass. This allows you to stay in Singapore legally while completing your studies.

5. Dependent Pass

If your spouse or parent works in Singapore and holds a valid work pass, they can sponsor you under a Dependent Pass. This is common for Filipino families who want to stay together.

How to Apply for a Singapore Pass or Visa

Marina Bay

If you're a Filipino planning to stay in Singapore for more than just a short vacation—whether for work, study, or to join family—here’s a clear, step-by-step guide to help you apply for the right pass. No confusing terms, just real steps you can follow.

✈️ STEP 1: Know What You Need

Ask yourself:

  • Are you going to work? You need a Work Pass (like Work Permit, S Pass, or Employment Pass).
  • Are you studying? You need a Student Pass.
  • Joining family or a partner? You need a Dependent Pass or Long-Term Visit Pass (LTVP).
  • Just visiting? No visa needed. You’ll get a Short-Term Visit Pass when you arrive.

📝 STEP 2: Find a Sponsor (For Work, Study, or Stay)

In Singapore, you cannot apply on your own for work or long-term passes.
You need a company, school, or family member in Singapore to apply for you:

  • Work – Employer applies.
  • Study – School applies.
  • Family – Spouse, parent, or partner applies.

They will process your application through Singapore's official government websites.

📄 STEP 3: Prepare Your Documents

Common documents you’ll need:

  • Valid Philippine passport (6 months valid)
  • Passport-size photo
  • Birth or marriage certificate (for family cases)
  • School acceptance letter (for students)
  • Job contract or offer letter (for work pass)
  • Other personal documents, depending on your case

Tip: Keep scanned copies ready, as most applications are done online.

💻 STEP 4: Application is Submitted Online

Your employer, school, or family member will apply through:

  • Ministry of Manpower (MOM) website for work passes
    www.mom.gov.sg
  • Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) for Student Pass, LTVP, Dependent Pass
    www.ica.gov.sg

You just wait while they process your application.

STEP 5: Wait for Approval

Once approved, you will receive an In-Principle Approval (IPA) letter. This is like your entry pass. Print it.

Processing time:

  • Work Pass – around 3 to 8 weeks
  • Student Pass – 1 to 4 weeks
  • Family Pass – varies, usually 4 to 6 weeks

🛬 STEP 6: Fly to Singapore

Once you have your IPA letter, book your flight.

At the airport immigration:

  • Show your IPA letter
  • Present your passport
  • Answer questions if asked (about your work, studies, or family)

You’ll get a short visit pass first, then complete your pass formalities after arrival.

🏢 STEP 7: Settle Pass Formalities in Singapore

Once inside Singapore, you’ll be asked to:

  • Go for a medical check-up (for work passes)
  • Register your fingerprints and photo at the ICA
  • Collect your physical pass card (like your ID)

Your sponsor will guide you through this.

1. There's basically no service to speak of. The bellhop won't help with luggage. I requested an extra comforter and found yellow stains. When I spoke to the front desk, they simply said, ”Then I'll find someone to change it for you,” without a single apology. 2. There's no lifeguard at the swimming pool. 3. There was noise in the room. The first time I brought it up in the morning, I was told it was normal to have wind by the river, but they would check it out. The noise was still there at night. When I asked to change rooms, they said they couldn't do it at night. I told them I had already mentioned it that morning, and then they said if I changed rooms, it would be next to a construction site and still be noisy. I pointed out they could give me a room not next to a construction site. After a long discussion, I finally got a slightly less desirable room than before, but the noise was better, though there was still some street noise. 4. The only advantage is that the subway is 200 meters away.

I had an absolutely fantastic stay at the Royal Plaza on Scotts! A huge thank you to Mariz at the front office. She is truly exceptional. She went out of her way to ensure my grandmother's check-in was incredibly smooth and stress-free. Even though the front desk was very busy, Mariz remained so calm, smiley, and highly professional. Her dedication to service is outstanding. I must also commend the sweet staff for their attentiveness. I was so touched by the surprise mini birthday cake—it made my day! (The food at the Carousel buffet was also great!). I enjoyed every bit of my stay and would recommend the Royal Plaza on Scotts without hesitation.

This was my first time in Singapore, and I blindly chose this hotel from many options because the pictures looked great and it was close to the MTR (subway). Upon arrival, I found that it truly is very close to the MTR; you can access the station by walking through the mall without even going outside. It's about a kilometer from the Singapore Flyer and Marina Bay Sands, and there are attractions like the National Gallery nearby. It's perfect for an after-dinner stroll, as it might even be faster to walk than take public transport for those short distances. The service was excellent, and the breakfast was incredibly rich and delicious. It might be the best hotel breakfast I've ever had, definitely on par with a Park Hyatt. I had read some reviews mentioning poor soundproofing, but I didn't experience that during my stay. The hotel has wooden floors, with a carpeted area around the bed, which is great for someone with allergies like me. The hotel is truly beautiful, and the Christmas decorations were very thoughtfully done. I really felt like I didn't want to leave and would definitely stay here again next time. The only downside, in my opinion, was the hairdryer. It really didn't match the overall decor; it was an old-fashioned type that was noisy and didn't have concentrated airflow, making it slow to dry hair. I hope they can upgrade the hairdryers next time.

The location is excellent! Although the room is a bit small, it has everything you need. Plus, they don't require a deposit, which is great! 👍 The front desk staff were very helpful. All in all, for Singapore 🇸🇬, it's a hotel with good value for money. If you're on a budget, it's worth considering, though there might be better options out there.

I didnt manage to get their names but am very appreciative of the kind assistance provided during my stay. They have limited manpower , no bellman and all the staff were ladies however the young receptionist and their duty manager did all they can to assist. The hotel are very strict with the rules and I felt area of improvement would be to note tone of voice to guests and maybe verbiage , however I understand she is doing her job. Housekeeping supervisory or room inspection may have an overlook as there was a dried up lens on cupboard but it was a small issue that doesnt affect my stay so i didnt raise but figured would be essential point to note for room audits. Despite facing alot of difficulties and that encounter... would be glad to be back again as the 2 ladies has converted my stay into a pleasant one.

We could not use the machine for self check-in because their system could not find our booking on trip.com, so a staff member had to manually check in for us. Excellent facilities - they provided lots of trolleys for luggages near the front door/reception area, which I think were quite thoughtful. Our kids used the playground a lot. Would love to use the swimming pool but our room (Studio Queen and Single) was quite small (especially the bathoom) to hang our swim clothes to dry. Coat hangers were provided in the room which could be used to hang swimclothes on to airdry, but with the humidity in Singapore, it would take about 2 days to completely dry. In the middle of our stay, we found a dead cockroach on the bed (first photo) while clearing stuff to prep the room for daily room service/cleaning. We left it there for the cleaner to handle it, but when we came back at night, the dead cockroach was still in the room (and moved to a different spot this time - second photo), so we cleaned it ourselves. Not that we are nitpicking, but since the room was small, we had to organise our things around every nook and cranny of the room, and I found the wall under the table near the floor quite dirty.

The location is absolutely fantastic! You can walk to Fort Canning Park, and Clarke Quay is right next door, which gets really lively at night with a whole street of bars and late-night food. It's also not far from the MRT. On our first day, we took a cable car to Sentosa Island and used GRAB for the round trip, but after that, we mostly used the MRT for getting around. First time staying at this hotel. Did something digging of the hotel's history and found that the hotel is approximately 57 years old (older than me). Can see that the hotel management still retains some of the old exterior architectural design which I think is good because I able to see the hotel past remnants! Even the staff working with the hotel are aged workers (guessed is a loyal employee?). The location is ideal (near newton food centre) and is situated around in a private housing and many high-rise condos areas. Bear in mind that this is an old hotel and I can see that some of the furniture don't match up to modern cotemporary coloring (used very dark wood colorings). Room is of decent size which is good! The room are generally clean enough (no ants found). The only downside is their breakfast does not carry lots of variety (limited choices), so if you are staying more than 2 days, one will get bored soon (average standard). Room service (room keeping) is slow and had to wait patiently. Other than that, I enjoyed my stay with this hotel! Keep up the good work!
