It’s located at Okaido Station—a well-kept, clean, and well-maintained hotel. The room size is typical for Japanese standards. It’s within walking distance to the Matsuyama Castle chairlift/gondola, with plenty of restaurants and eateries nearby, especially along the arcade street.
The REF Matsuyama City Station Hotel by VESSEL Hotels boasts an exceptionally prime location, right in the very heart of Matsuyama City, Ehime Prefecture. It's conveniently situated right next to Takashimaya department store and the city's iconic Ferris wheel 🎡, offering super easy access to both Matsuyama Castle and Shimonada Station.
The room itself was quite spacious. This was my first time in Japan encountering a design where the washbasin was cleverly positioned outside the main bathroom area, which genuinely made the bathroom feel more expansive. The room also came equipped with a small table and two chairs, which was incredibly convenient.
The breakfast was a particular highlight! There was a wide variety of delicious options, and everything tasted great. The sea bream sashimi, in particular, was incredibly fresh and succulent 😋. Among the five types of orange juice available, the 'Wenzhou Orange' was the sweetest – I highly recommend anyone visiting to try it! 🥳
I had a wonderful stay at this hotel. The room was exceptionally clean and offered a great view. It was also very quiet, which made it easy for me to relax and get some work done. Overall, a comfortable and peaceful environment, perfect for both rest and productivity. Highly recommended!
Very close to the station, just a few steps away without luggage. The hotel has free drinks, but the selection is relatively small. The hotel opened last year, so everything is new and the design is relatively modern. The bed and toilet are relatively large, but there is not much standing space in the room, and the suitcases are not easy to open. The bathhouse is also designed in a relatively modern way, and the water temperature feels about 43 degrees, which is quite hot. I was the only one eating this morning, and the waiter kept bringing the dishes to my side and asked if I wanted more, which was very enthusiastic. In the end, I really couldn't eat anymore. There are some local cuisines.
This is my second time staying at this hotel and am extremely pleased to be a returning customer. I finished a big tour of Shikoku by bike in the last 13 days with a friend now just returned to the same hotel for a couple of relaxing days before heading back home.
This hotel is at the heart of the Dogo district with great amenities, very friendly staff and top quality services. I’d like to thank two of the hotel staff, Medo Shuhei and Jay whom have been very helpful to assist our stay during our trip. I have no hesitation to recommend this hotel to my friends and would be more than happy to stay in the same hotel next time visiting Matsuyama.
The bed and breakfast was satisfactory for this trip. The breakfast combines Japanese and Western styles, including curry rice, fried eggs, grilled fish, miso soup, etc. It is rich and delicious, bringing energy to the day. Although the room is not big, it is simple and clean in design, fully equipped, and the lighting and natural light create a comfortable atmosphere. The luggage was neatly placed, indicating a smooth check-in. The overall feeling is warm and relaxing, and it is a pleasant stay experience.
Nice location. It's just like an ordinary Japanese hot spring hotel, the highlight is the hot spring pool on the top floor, where you can look up at the stars at night. The dinner was average (felt like a group meal). As other reviews suggested, if you don't have a meal package, you can go to the hot spring street to eat and you might have a better experience.
The location is excellent, as it's right next to the Dogo Onsen Main Building.
I was traveling alone, but the single room was larger and more comfortable than I expected, and it even had a massage chair that helped me relieve the fatigue of my travels.
The hot springs were great, and the breakfast had a wide variety of dishes and was delicious.
The all-you-can-drink mandarin juice was a nice touch.
I was very satisfied with the hotel in every way.
The location is very good, close to Uwajima Castle, shopping and pedestrian streets, very convenient. There is also a big supermarket not far away. It is just above the train station. There are no trains at night, so it is not noisy, but the motor noise of the building is constant. Even if the fresh air system is turned off in the room, it doesn't work. People with poor sleep should be careful!
The hotel lobby looked quite dated, and it was larger than typical Japanese hotels, giving off the vibe of a renovated old building. I booked a Japanese-style room to try out the tatami, and it was pretty good. The toilet and shower/bath were separate, and both were on the small side. Overall, the experience was positive, although the place felt a bit old.

WwwhosambirThe staff at the front desk were efficient, though they came across as cold and reserved. The room was disappointing, with run-of-the-mill furniture/furnishings and a creaky chair. The lights were too dim. There was no view as the lower half of the window was blocked by a wall. On the other hand, the bathroom looked quite elegant and was kept clean.
The location is great. There are plenty of dining & shopping options nearby. The hotel has a shopping mall on the lower floors and is next to Mitsukoshi Department Store and Okaido Shopping Street. The Okaido Tram Stop is down the street. The bus stop for the airport limousine is right in front of Mitsukoshi. Attractions such as Bansuiso, Saka no Ue no Kumo Museum and the cable car to Matsuyama Castle are all within walking distance.
GGuest UserThe best central hotel you'll find. Fantastic value for money, the hotel is very clean and the staff is very friendly. It's only a few streets away from a massive shopping district including restaurants, so you won't have to go far when you're hungry. There's a tram station very nearby so you can get to Dogo Onsen easily.
The internet in the room is a godsend. Most hotels skimp on the internet so you can only load one webpage an hour, and it makes looking up day trip ideas and booking things a huge pain. At this hotel I had no issues with it. This made it the best hotel for a 'home base' to plan day trips from.
Beware Google Maps getting here, it points you to the southern side of the block, the entrance to this hotel is on the northern side of the block.

AayutripA Perfect Business Hotel! The rooms are new, clean, and compact but very functional. The bathroom was spotless and shiny. Personally, I really liked the library café in the lobby — a cozy space available to hotel guests even before check-in and after check-out. It offers free drinks, Wi-Fi, and power outlets. Breakfast had a limited selection, but everything was delicious.

GGuest UserWe wanted to experience Dogo Onsen and this was a great choice (albeit expensive because it was a holiday weekend). The hotel is lovely and the service is beyond excellent. The staff was super kind as we are English speakers. Plus, we really enjoyed the hotels onsens better than the ones in town (the Dogo Onsen is being renovated and only one room was open for each gender; the same was the case with the Annex). The hotels onsens were lovely and the private outdoor onsen was a really lovely experience. We also took advantage of their convenient bus service into town although it’s only a 10 minute walk and we walked multiple times. Highly recommend!

AAnonymous UserNice hotel next to Dogo onsen. They provide yutaka and onsen basket for free use. Nice gesture.
Has parking within the hotel but subject to extra charge. Very challenging to park though and they won’t help you park. Need precision for four wheels to balance on two narrow bars.
Hotel has a Japanese restaurant within the compound and it is not bad.
GGuest UserTwo days of bicycles on the island Bohai Road, from the tail road, the first night to stay at this homestay, health, equipment no problem, comfortable rest for one night. There is a hot spring nearby, close at 20:00, you can buy tickets from the store manager, Ping less.
