Zulu Surf Hotel Tamarindo

Firstly, let me say that the staff there are their biggest asset. I couldn’t fault the staff in any way. They were friendly and warm. Offered help will all services like tours or fun places to go or local food or taxis to the airport etc etc. she always greeted me and wanted to have a conversation about my day (as a solo traveller, that’s nice, as most the time can be spent alone). She seemed to care that I had a fun time there and did her best to help me enjoy my time. The downsides are just a few things with noise, it’s quite close to main road and the windows are super thin. Was woken up a few times. Also the communal areas can be quite close to rooms and you don’t appreciate people smoking, drinking, talking loudly outside your door whether it’s 4pm or 4am!
Hotel Boyeros
3.8/5104 Reviews
Had a 2nd floor balcony room (206) x 2 nights. Pros outweighed the cons: very helpful, nice workers; strong shower water pressure; great mattresses; fabulously cool and quiet A/C; decent Wi-Fi; lovely natural grounds with birdsong amid exquisite sparkling pools; nice breakfast buffet included with room; Santa Rosa Plaza across the road with a fine grocery store and a great crepe cafe, among others. Cons: a lot of truck and car noise on highway as others have said; traffic congestion in Liberia during the main part of the day; and noise from people in the pool area late into the night. But I’d totally want to stay at Boyeros again - for the real Costa Rican experience - ear plugs not to be forgotten.
Wyndham Tamarindo

This trip was for my honey moon, the staff was pleasant and helpful. The shuttle service was easy and efficient and the trip to town was less then 5 mins away. The beach club that was attached to the hotel is 6 mins away and prime location in the beach. All the rooms have a beautiful view and would definitely book again even if it is not right in the beach as everything is within walking distance and a taxi ride away (we paid 5$ from center of town to our hotel) the rooms were clean and the ac unit kept the room nice and cool which is refreshing coming in from the humid outdoors. Definitely book again … pura vida
Hampton by Hilton Guanacaste Airport

This new hotel is the perfect place to stay when arriving or departing from the Liberia airport. The staff--special shootout to Daniel--are friendly, professional, helpful, and multilingual. The hotel is clean and well decorated. The pool and bar area provides a comfortable place to relax. The fitness room is clean, cool, and has sufficient equipment to get in a good workout or stretch. The rooms are small with comfortable beds. I will stay at the Hampton Inn Guanacaste again!
Hilton Garden Inn Guanacaste Airport
4.2/5103 Reviews
This is your typical Hilton hotel you would find in America, honestly if you just came here you would think you are back home. Also, they have amenities such a restaurant, pool and fitness room at this hotel. Restaurant food is okay, nothing like the food you have probably have enjoyed while traveling around Costa Rica. Lastly, the room was clean and standard, no fuss! It is also very close to all the rental car return places. Breakfast is not included with reservation, it is something you pay out of pocket. Overall, very great option for someone traveling in or out of Liberia Intl Airport.
Bahia del Sol Beach Front Boutique Hotel
4.3/5102 Reviews
We chose this boutique experience in small town of Potrero, rather than large resort/all-inclusive in touristy area. We couldn’t have been happier with our choice. We felt like we experienced the true version of Costa Rican culture with a new adventure every day and different local cuisine every night. Hotel grounds were small but intimate and had everything we were looking for. Friendly staff, amazing breakfast (included), nice apartment style room, quiet pool, amazing beach access and beautifully maintained property. More than enough beach chairs/loungers for all guests, so no need to leave towels out to reserve like at bigger resorts. Walking distance and/or short 5 minute drive to many local restaurants with great food and even better prices (always less than $50 USD for dinner for 2 with drinks). No fitness Center but brought fitness bands for efficient workout on balcony, and great beach for 7.5k run every morning. We absolutely loved our first vacation to Costa Rica because of the beautiful nature, activities and most importantly friendly people. We will have a hard time choosing anywhere other than Bahía Del Sol when we return.
Margaritaville Beach Resort Playa Flamingo
4.2/5102 Reviews
This was one of the most beautiful countries we’ve ever visited, so perhaps I’m viewing it through rose-colored glasses :). The highlight of this hotel was the staff—everyone was incredibly friendly, helpful, and pleasant. We especially loved Priscilla, who led arts and crafts sessions with the kids. I wish I had gotten the names of everyone who made our stay so wonderful. Other pros include the great location right on a beautiful beach, and the food was quite good. Apart from breakfast and the occasional lunch buffet, all other meals were made-to-order. The resort is small, which made the experience more personable. Cons: It’s over an hour’s drive from the airport and most attractions. Also, the bathroom looked worn and could use some updating.
Hacienda la Pacífica Eco-Lodge
4.3/584 Reviews
The only thing I would change is the breakfast - it’s the same each day, has no meat and does not vary. The grounds are lovely and fun to explore, there are animals throughout the grounds wild, which means you have to watch out for droppings. The staff were wonderful, super helpful, very flexible - I loved their lending library of books and the suites are incredible for the price. The pool is nice, although as it’s in the middle of a flat windy area it is hard to keep it clean so are often leaves and petals across it - it’s also only 1m depth at the minimum making it hard for children to play in it and hard for it to get warm. We really enjoyed the quiet and solitude and being able to park the car outside our suite, which save walking with heavy bags - not much you could do here without a car though.
Punta Islita, Autograph Collection
4.5/553 Reviews
I have traveled worldwide for 70+ years and stayed at some of the finest resorts - and I have to say that Punta Islita now tops the list. EVERYTHING was truly five-star: ambience, food, service, rooms, views, activities. Absolutely ideal for a romantic vacation. We were there in ”rainy season” so occupancy was low, but it's warm tropical rain that had little affect on our enjoyment of the resort. It is a little remote - a rough three hour drive from Liberia airport, or a local small plane hop (the better option) to an air ***** a few miles from Punta Islita. I'm hoping to return!
Papagayo Golden Palms Beachfront Hotel
4.1/5101 Reviews
Solo trip over a long weekend, and Golden Palms was a great choice. Pros: - Quiet. This could be because I went during low season, but I twice had the pool to myself in the morning and at night. There was no wait for food, and I had my pick of beach lounges. - Everyone was SUPER friendly, but this is consistent in Costa Rica. - Location is less than 30 minutes from the airport. Also, was closer to Nicaragua for my one day trip there. - Rooms are exactly as pictured, and clean. Beds were made daily, with towels/robes refreshed daily. - Food portions were satisfying. - Property is beautiful upon arrival. I went on a number of tours, and multiple passengers from other hotels commented on how beautiful the property was. - Price was more than fair for where i stayed and the service I received. If back in Papagayo, I'd stay here again, hands down. - Security was checked every time I arrived or left the property. Cons: - Bugs/spiders in the bathroom. I actually didn't complain about this because it didn't bother me, but I can see how it would with other people. - Pool needs cleaning multiple times a day, but wasn't. I'm weird - WEIRD about swimming in a pool with a lot of debris. I did it, but hated doing it. - Restaurant food was ok. It definitely isn't varied. Over my four nights there I tried almost everything, I didn't hate anything. The pancakes I tried the morning I left were delicious, I'd recommend those. - Because the restaurant food isn't exceptional, the location is sort of a negative as well because you're not near anything. You'll have to drive or take a very expensive taxi to eat at other locations. All in all, I enjoyed my time there, and would not only stay again, but recommend it to others looking for an reasonably priced Papagayo/Guanacaste hotel stay
