Picton Yacht Club Hotel

The hotel itself is a bit dated but well maintained and clean. The service was good and breakfast was substantial. Pool seemed unused for years with black spots of algae but we were not really into swimming so its ok. The room size were nice and big but sound proof is not too good. We can hear the kids playing from the other room. Beds were good and comfy. Smells clean and soft. Location is good. Walking distance to everything you need.

Clean. Service attitude is very good. Quiet place. However, the next door neighbor is really noisy. The TV is open until 1:40 in the middle of the night, and the sound of modern music is muffled. The door is opened and pulled every few minutes, and it rumbles. I'm waiting for the second boot to land, when they're not tossing around. Until the 1:40 car starts, go! What's going on?!

We had a Studio apartment with ensuite and own cooking facilities. It was clean and comfortable and the staff were very helpful. There was no microwave in the room which was very small with a table and 2 chairs outside on the balcony. We were close to the office and disturbed by guests arriving past 10pm and talking loudly. I was able to use the microwave in the shared kitchen. We did not think it was good value for the money when compared to other places we stayed at. However we were well located to catch the early morning ferry across to Wellington which was a priority. Next time I wd stay a little further out and catch a later ferry. We got much better value accommodation in Wellington.

Off-street parking, clean bathrooms, comfy bed w/ clean sheets, cheerful paint and decor, good space heater, host very friendly and welcoming, nice indoor and outdoor common areas (though chairs/couches looks like they could use a cleaning). Carpet and baseboards in room rather dirty as well. Could just be consequence of weather/season/COVID, but overall the place felt a bit tired and bleak. Several other people staying here, but older and not especially social - almost feels like they live here and I'm intruding (which, fair enough - times have been hard for the tourism industry and locals alike - just FYI depending on your vibe preferences).
Lochmara Lodge - 20Mins by Boat from Picton

We recently walked the Queen Charlotte Sounds over five days as a family and choose to make the 1 hour walk down off the track and stay the last night at Lochmara. So glad we did, our children loved this place. There is so much for them to do here; from the animal tour, exploring the extensive grounds, through to using the kayaks/stand-up paddle boards in their sheltered bay. The food was excellent with a wide range on the menu and the staff were incredibly accommodating with any requests. Then to top it all off, the soak in the bath house relieved the aches and pains before our last 18km on the track. Thanks to Chris and Nicki for your hospitality and the kids voted you guys #1 of all the places we stayed.

Our expectations were exceeded. We had like a mini apartment with every facility that could possibly need. Plenty of utensils to make a small meal. The everything was very clean. A guest laundry on site. A fab pool although sadly we didn’t get time to use it. Excellent value for money. Room service was offered every day. Staff all lovely.

We arrived very late at the hotel and have a very nice room on the 3rd floor. A late check out was possible. We liked it very well and if we were to go through it again, we would book it again at any time. Thank you very much

Really recommend, the best hotel in this small city, the price is very high, the room is large, the location is quiet and quiet, although it is an open room, equivalent to the area of one room and two halls
