GGuest UserThe location is fantastic, a typical island resort with its own beach, pool, and water sports facilities – everything you could ask for. Both adults and kids can find activities to enjoy. We arrived early and there was a lounge available for us to wait for check-in, and staff helped deliver our luggage to the room. Since it was our anniversary, the front desk thoughtfully upgraded our room, which we were very pleased with. However, the water quality was quite disappointing; you absolutely need to bring a filtering shower head and change the filter frequently, as it discolors quickly after a few uses. Luckily, we were prepared. I'd advise others to be aware of this, as the water quality should definitely be improved to meet five-star standards. Also, we happened to visit during a partial renovation, so our room didn't have a sea view directly opposite. On the bright side, it meant we avoided the noisy crowds, and the peace and quiet were a plus. The breakfast was rich and varied, but it gets crowded after 8 AM during peak times. If you want a good table by the window, you need to go early, as the restaurant staff informed me they don't take reservations. The air conditioning in the restaurant also seemed a bit weak; that could use improvement. I hope to experience the upgraded Shangri-La on a future visit, I'm sure it will be even better. If you have enough time, this resort is perfect for a week-long stay – ideal for unwinding, relaxing, and comfortable travel. I'll definitely choose this place again next time I'm in Kota Kinabalu!

AAnonymous UserJust got back home yesterday, and I'm determined to write a thorough review for this hotel. My kids also encouraged me to review it, because it truly deserves it. We booked four ocean villas for two nights, and I initially thought our chances of encountering issues would be higher with such a large booking. But we didn't run into any problems at all! In fact, I even regretted not booking more nights, mainly because I was put off by too many negative reviews on Ctrip. 1. **Service:** If you're comfortable communicating in English, the hotel service is absolutely fantastic. Most of the staff speak excellent English and were diligent in explaining activities, facilities, schedules, and programs. They showed us where everything was in the room and proactively informed us about the cost if we broke any of the toiletries bottles. The higher cost for broken bottles is because the contents are genuinely expensive – they're pure plant essential oil toiletries. As someone who regularly uses essential oils, I know they shouldn't be stored in plastic. Plus, these toiletries left our hair and skin feeling moisturized, not dry. I found them to be very effective. If you're worried about breaking them, just place them on the floor. 2. **Seawater:** The seawater is quite clear. While it's not a 'jelly blue,' the clarity is definitely good. We did experience a heavy downpour one day, and the water became a bit murky the next, but it was still perfectly acceptable. The photo of the large sea turtle looks a bit blurry because it was taken with a waterproof phone case, but the water itself was actually very clear. That was taken from under our water villa. The manta ray was photographed near the stairs of our water villa room. 3. **No Outside Food Policy:** They don't allow outside food in the rooms because it attracts ants and monkeys. The front desk has a dedicated area for storing snacks. We didn't bring any snacks into our room and always closed the door promptly, so we didn't have any bugs or insects. A crucial point: absolutely do not feed the monkeys! 4. **Meals:** We had all our meals at the hotel restaurant, and the food was truly delicious. A main meal costs around 90+ MYR per person (about 160 CNY). We felt the food was excellent, with a good variety of dishes and drinks beyond just the main courses. The kids' portions were a bit small; our four children ordered 7 kids' meals, and eventually, we just ordered them regular adult meals instead. 5. **Hot Water:** Regarding previous reviews mentioning no hot water, one of our rooms indeed had this issue. We called the front desk, and it turned out there's a 'water heater' button on the wall. Hot water was available within 15 minutes. So, don't hesitate to ask! Don't be shy; good service often requires you to speak up. 6. **Free Rentals:** Paddleboards, small boats, fins, and masks are all available for free rental. 7. **Marine Life:** In the ocean, we spotted baby sharks, baby manta rays, triggerfish, archerfish (the ones that shoot water), porcupinefish, and even a large sea turtle (which is rare, but we got lucky!). 8. **Welcome/Farewell:** We received a welcome ceremony and a welcome drink upon arrival. Upon departure, we sometimes had the whole staff waving goodbye to us. 9. **Guest Demographics:** There were a lot of European and American guests at the hotel, some Koreans, but not many Chinese guests. I wonder if this is due to the excessive negative reviews on Ctrip. 10. **Cleanliness:** The hygiene was excellent, and the rooms were very clean. Each room came with life vests, so you could go snorkeling anytime. That pretty much covers it. I believe if your English communication is good, feel free to chat with the front desk and restaurant staff; they are very engaging. At 8 AM, the hotel organizes a free jungle trek. It was a bit tiring, and we didn't see much – just hiking uphill. For reference, my experience this trip, and with these four rooms, was genuinely excellent. Having been to places like the Maldives, Bali, and Koh Lipe... I think this hotel offers great value for money, and I would definitely come back. Hotels at this price point on Koh Lipe before were significantly worse.

GGuest UserOverall, I'm quite satisfied. The room was spacious, and the hotel is located right by the pier. There was dedicated staff to handle luggage, though the facilities are definitely outdated and the room had a strange odor. The service was decent, but the front desk really helped us out of a bind when an unexpected situation arose on our way back.

XXinzhuangshidaimiOur New Year family trip unexpectedly led us to Shangri-La Rasa Ria, and it was a fantastic surprise! The overall resort experience was excellent. The hygiene, environment, and service were all good. Breakfast was delicious; the sirloin steak and Vietnamese pho were a must-have every day. The kids spent all their time in the pool. Even though the hotel was full, it has two lobbies – one for the Garden Wing and one for the Ocean Wing – which helped manage the flow of guests, so it never felt overcrowded, which was just perfect. We stayed in the Ocean Wing, which is quieter than the Garden Wing. Although it's a bit far from the city, the hotel provides a free shuttle service to both the city and the airport. We visited Shangri-La Tanjung Aru during our island hopping, and it was much more crowded, probably because it has its own pier for sea excursions. All in all, I still think the resort experience at Rasa Ria was much better.

AAkmaaalI recently stayed at Sutera@Mantanani for a-night, and it was magnificent an unforgettable island experience. The room was spacious enough for both of us! WE ARE SO HAPPY that they provides everything we needed for a comfortable and relaxing stay. The rooms are well-equipped with air conditioning, ceiling fans, flat-screen TVs, mini-fridges, tea and coffee making facilities, and safety deposit boxes. There’s no need to worry about bringing toiletries or coping with the island heat, as all essentials are thoughtfully provided, making it easy to unwind and fully enjoy the island experience. We spent the morning watching the sunrise and the tide coming in with the clean ocean and beautiful Mount Kinabalu.Other than that they also have kayak rentals, and there is many activities we have done such as sunset walk, ATV, volley ball with other guest, and a romantic night with a bon fire and skies full of stars. The staff were super friendly and helpful, especially during the boat transfer from Rampayan Jetty, they helped us load our luggage, AND they also very helpful in explaining the trip itinerary, ensuring guests could manage their time well and make the most of their stay, while also clearly informing us of rules and safety guidelines to ensure everyone’s well-being. Meals were served buffet-style in the resort’s open-air dining area, with fresh local seafood, grilled fish, nasi lemak, and tropical fruits, breakfast included eggs, toast, and local pastries. We appreciated that the chef accommodated a vegetarian request without issue. Overall, Sutera@Mantanani is a perfect island retreat, and I would came back here and highly recommend it to couples, families, or anyone seeking a quiet, nature-filled getaway.

GGuest UserThe room was beautiful and spacious, giving off a super vacation vibe! The hotel staff provided excellent service. There's also a bar by the sea where you can enjoy a drink and dinner. The location is right by Sutera Harbour, and the famous 'Love at Ringgit Island' (which was popular online) has now moved to Sutera Harbour. It's also not far from the airport, making it very convenient for getting around.

AAlisayaaI stayed at ***a Island Hotel 12 years ago, and I came back with my daughter full of anticipation, only to be utterly disappointed. There were two reasons: 1. The front desk girl in picture one was rude, arrogant, and shirked her responsibilities. After the normal check-in process on the island at 2:10 PM, we waited until 2:45 PM without being assigned a room (normal check-in time is 3:00 PM). Considering my daughter was feeling unwell with a cold, I spoke to the front desk girl about going to the restaurant to eat and rest first (the front desk staff was aware of the situation as they led us to the restaurant). When we returned to the front desk at 3:30 PM to check in, we were told there were no rooms available because we weren't waiting at the front desk. What kind of logic is that?! The truth was the rooms hadn't been cleaned, but the front desk just rudely insisted it was because we weren't waiting. Throughout, I communicated gently in English, yet I still felt the arrogance in her words and attitude. This should not happen at a hotel of this caliber. I saw other Chinese guests also having trouble getting rooms. I didn't want to argue and ruin my mood, so I immediately contacted Ctrip's dedicated customer service. Junjun was very professional and patient in resolving the issue. Finally, the hotel manager intervened and apologized, and we checked in at 4:45 PM. Once the manager arrived, the problematic front desk staff suddenly became timid; her demeanor was truly disgusting. 2. The room's cleanliness was poor. There were various hairs in the bathroom, and the bathtub still had uncleaned stains. The hotel's large bathtubs are a feature, but regular disposable tub liners don't fit; you need extra-large ones. The hotel's compensation included a room upgrade and a complimentary dinner. The hotel environment, and thanks to Ctrip for helping us get checked in smoothly. The hotel's natural environment is still excellent, quiet and comfortable – that's why I've missed this hotel for so many years. The main guests are still Caucasians and Koreans, with a smaller proportion of Chinese. The restaurant is quite good, especially the chef's skill.

MM7679****Everything was perfect. Every staff member at the resort was incredibly welcoming and helpful, even the maintenance workers I passed on the paths greeted me warmly. The food in the restaurant was delicious, and breakfast was absolutely perfect – I couldn't find a single fault. The resort doesn't cut back on service or close facilities just because there are fewer guests, which is great. It was a perfect getaway, and I will definitely be returning.

GGuest UserThe room facilities are a bit dated, and the cleanliness was just okay, not thoroughly cleaned. However, the hotel environment is lovely, the beach is clean, and it's not crowded, which makes it great for surfing and taking photos. The hotel has a good ecological environment; you can often spot monkeys, lizards, and squirrels. The staff are polite and always greet you. Personally, I think it offers good value for money. The only downside is that it's a bit far from the city center, but you can take a taxi to eat out. There's a small commercial area about a 10-minute drive away, frequented by many locals and few tourists, and the local cuisine there is excellent.

XXiaoxingedainichuxingMy girlfriend and I chose an overwater bungalow for our island vacation and ultimately decided on Dragon Pearl Water Villas on Pom Pom Island. It proved to be an excellent choice. The island is quite remote, requiring a 45-minute boat ride from the mainland. It was incredibly clean, unlike other islands we've visited, with absolutely no trash. We also visited during the off-season, meaning fewer crowds, which made for a truly fantastic stay. Staying in an overwater bungalow for a night was a wonderful experience. We could directly witness both the sunrise and moonrise from our room, with fish swimming right beneath us in the clear waters. While the facilities were a bit basic, the natural environment and the overall island development were outstanding. It's truly perfect for couples on a romantic getaway or honeymoon, and also great for girlfriends traveling together to take beautiful photos. The hotel service was also good. While not as convenient as on the mainland (which is to be expected for an island resort), it was generally fine. Overall, I think it's a superb choice and I highly recommend it to everyone. A tip: For the hotel's airport transfer and speedboat services to and from the island, it's crucial to confirm details with both Ctrip and the hotel in advance. Ctrip did an excellent job coordinating everything beforehand, ensuring a smooth and hassle-free journey. Fantastic!
