Excellent service, chambres confortables et bien décorées, le spa vu sur les montagnes est très joli, le restaurant sert de très bons plats avec produits de qualité, le petit déjeuner est bon et varié, il y a même du jus d'orange pressé. Très bonne expérience!
The hotel is clean and big, breakfast also nice.
It offers the free bus pick up from station to the hotel from 8am to 17pm. But the staff service could be better.
Traveling with four elderly people in the family on the last day because of the different wake-up time, we decided to go to eat in each room. Half of the restaurant service staff came over loudly and accused us that we are a big family and should sit at a big table together. We should not sit separately for a while. There is no place to come. The restaurant is not big. Two big tables were booked. A big table was occupied by a Japanese couple. We sat at the two tables. What's the problem? At this time, it was not even eight o'clock. When I checked in, several people at the front desk were muttering in their office. It’s just how China is. In addition to the few people who clean the room every day, they are quite easy to get along with. Others are really wearing colored glasses for the Chinese.
Location – 10/10
Nestled high above Zermatt, the Riffelhaus 1853 is accessible via the Gornergrat railway, making the journey itself an adventure. Once you arrive, you’re greeted by panoramic mountain views in every direction, with the iconic Matterhorn standing proudly in front of you. The setting is perfect for ski-in/ski-out access in winter and stunning hiking trails in summer.
Rooms – 9/10
The rooms are cozy, modern, and well-equipped while still maintaining a classic Swiss alpine charm. Many rooms come with Matterhorn views, and waking up to this scenery is an experience in itself. The beds are comfortable, and the rustic wooden decor gives a warm, welcoming feel. Some rooms have balconies, which I highly recommend booking for the full experience.
Service – 9/10
The staff is friendly, professional, and attentive. Despite the hotel’s remote location, the service is top-notch, with staff going out of their way to accommodate special requests. From seamless check-in to helpful local recommendations, they make the stay even more special.
Dining – 8.5/10
The on-site restaurant serves delicious Swiss cuisine, including traditional dishes like fondue and rösti. The breakfast is generous, featuring fresh bread, cheeses, meats, and eggs cooked to order. The only downside is that, due to the remote location, dining options are limited to the hotel restaurant, but the quality makes up for it.
Wellness & Spa – 10/10
The outdoor hot tub with a view of the Matterhorn is an absolute highlight! There’s also a sauna and steam bath, perfect after a day of skiing or hiking. Soaking in the warm water while surrounded by snow-capped peaks is an experience worth every penny.
Activities – 10/10
Winter: Perfect for skiing, as the hotel is directly on the slopes. The ski room is convenient, and the access to the Gornergrat ski area is unbeatable.
Summer: Incredible hiking trails with direct access to the Gornergratbahn for easy excursions to higher altitudes.
The hotel is in a great location. The corner rooms offer a panoramic view of the Matterhorn from both indoors and on the balcony! A shuttle bus is provided from the train station to the hotel, but it is not far to walk there.
The main colors of the room are milk tea and bean paste pink, which are soft and warm. The dry and wet separated bathrooms are spacious, with coffee machines, tea bags and kettles. Small snacks are provided every day (European desserts are not likely to fail). It's just that the coffee cups are not cleaned very well 😂.
A feature of the hotel: the cheese hot pot cabin! Reservations are required, with a separate space, and the Matterhorn view is just outside the cabin. The cabin is small and warm, with music and dedicated service. The set meal is 75 Swiss francs per person, with pickled meat cold cuts, nuts, and three kinds of mixed cheese hot pot ingredients all from the local area, and the final dessert is also very exquisite. Overall value for money!
Let's talk about the advantages first: a great view of the Matterhorn, you can see it from the terrace, and you can also see it when you have breakfast in the restaurant, the view is very good. The room is about 10 minutes' walk from the train station, and it's still a bit hard to drag the suitcase, but there is a free taxi when you check out and go to the station~
The other feeling is that the room is so small... There are few types of breakfast, especially after staying at sunstar, the difference in breakfast is a bit obvious. In addition, the main door is a bit difficult to find, you have to go up a few stairs and walk through a corridor to get there. I was so tired when I arrived in Zermatt that day, and it was painful to carry the luggage up the stairs.
In short, the recommendation index is three and a half stars.
Only need to walk 5min from the station but a bit tricky to find. Close to the town centre, easy to see the sunrise of Zermatt. Breakfast in a cute wooden place.
Thanks to the staff for upgrading the room for us, we can enjoy the beautiful view of Matterhorn from the terrace, which is very happy.
The room is spacious, has a self-service dining area, and is fully equipped with stoves and cooking utensils. It is very suitable for skiers. The bathroom is very clean, there is a bathtub for soaking, and there is also a public swimming pool and spa. It's a pity that I didn't check-in earlier. I must come earlier next time to enjoy it.
The location is excellent, only 4 minutes away from the train station, and it's easy to walk with your suitcase. It is walking distance from Gornergrat and Sunnegga stations, and there is a bus stop at the door to the Metterhorn Glacier Paradise cable car station.
Breakfast is very rich and delicious.
This stay is really worth the money👍🏼
We had an absolutely wonderful stay.
Room was clean, spacious and very comfortable.
Very near the zermatt train station, just opposite of Macdonald’s.
Breakfast had a good selection.
Housekeeping would check in on you and offer free chocolates.
The only feedback I have is the room didn’t provide English instructions on how to dial the concierge so I had to walk down to request for items.
