Good location and very suitable for solo trip, near public transportation and you can find anything you want in this area such as food, shopping, entertainment and etc.
Location is superb, just 1-2 min walk to Kumamoto station and AMU Plaza. Plenty of eating choices. Room size is great, but comes at a price. Room amenities working fine, room cleaning service is ¥1000/day. Tram and bus stops to places of interest are convenient and close to hotel. Overall a good hotel stay.
A very nice stay in the city of Kumamon! Staffs are friendly, the room is big, amenities are well prepared. Had a three-night stay in the same hotel and enjoyed the convenience of it as it’s right next to the JR Kumamoto station with bus stops nearby and connected to the AMU plaza.
Great value for what we have paid for. Efficient check-in process. High quality public bath facilities with two hot hot springs (one indoor and one outdoor), one sauna and one cold water pool. Although this hotel is listed as a 3-star hotel, we would say it is much better than many 4-star hotels in many regards. The employees at the check-in desk speak decent English too.
Very central location at the shopping mall but it is difficult to enter the hotel as mentioned by other reviews. Great amenities provided at the hotel lobby- hair oil and bath salts! Room was clean and spacious. Overall a great experience.
The hotel is very conveniently located. We could spot it from our JR train coming from Kumamoto as we pulled into Aso Station. Buses going up the mountain depart right outside the station. The next morning, we took the 9:40 AM bus, and in just 25 minutes, we reached Aso Volcano Museum and Kusasenri. The scenery along the way was breathtaking, making the trip absolutely worthwhile.
The hotel provided a welcome respite from the hot weather. The rooms were clean and, compared to many Japanese hotels, quite spacious and very well-maintained.
On the ground floor, there's a communal kitchen and dining area where coffee, hot water, and instant soup are available for free. Many guests bought food from the nearby Lawson convenience store and enjoyed it there.
We booked the hotel's breakfast, which was a set meal. The portion was generous, and there was a good variety of dishes.
Excellent location in the city centre, a few minutes from shopping, convenience stores, and the Sakuramachi Main bus terminal. Though it is no frills 3-star limited service hotel, location is the best and the price is reasonable. No cleaning in my room plan but acceptable. Will stay again.
I recently had the pleasure of staying at this exceptional hotel, and I can't recommend it highly enough. From the moment I arrived, I was impressed by the cleanliness and overall ambiance. The staff were incredibly friendly and attentive, ensuring a smooth check-in process.
The room was spotless, well-maintained, and thoughtfully designed with modern amenities. The bed was extremely comfortable, guaranteeing a restful night's sleep. The bathroom was pristine, with high-quality toiletries provided.
The hotel's location was convenient, offering easy access to local attractions and transportation.
Overall, this hotel exceeded my expectations in every way. If you're looking for a clean, comfortable, and outstanding place to stay, this is it. I will definitely be returning on my next visit!
Conveniently located in the city centre, walking distance to the main bus terminal and shopping district. Room was clean and quiet with needed amenities. Complementary afternoon drink (n/a) service was a nice touch. Friendy staffs, snd mostly conversant in English. Highly recommended and will definitely stay again.
Daiwa Roynet Group-style hotels have always been classified as mid-priced with guaranteed quality. The hotel is in Shimo-dori, which is very conveniently located (there is another Daiwa Roynet nearby, don’t get me wrong). The hotel room has massage chairs, which can relieve fatigue after walking around. Although the glass windows are double-layered, the sound insulation is not too good, and you can hear the voices and noises of people on the street.

BBokkie TruongAso Base is more than the usual backpackers hostel. I think it's like a boutique guesthouse. We spent an enjoyable 4 nights there. The owners are friendly and helpful. The facilities are spotless. The communal area downstairs has a well equipped kitchen and comfortable area for meals, reading etc. On the cold days we were there a log fire was made to warm us up! The bedrooms are comfortable and the communal showers/toilets are kept very clean. Adequate so never any waiting for a place. We also appreciated the discount tickets to the nearby Onsen. This is a great place at good value to stay in Aso.

GGuest UserI honestly do not know where to start, I booked the hotel without really knowing much about Kumamoto Prefecture. After arriving in Kumamoto City and then realising Ueki Onsen is another 40 minute bus ride I was thinking oh dear where am I staying. After arriving at the hotel I was greeted by the manager of the hotel who showed me to my room and gave me a tour of the facilities. Once settled in I realised there isn't great public transport around and I primarily wanted to see Beppu and Yufuin during my stay, I enquired with the manager on where I might be able to rent a car, with little to no Japanese language under my belt he took it upon himself to reserve a vehicle for me and offered to drive me himself to collect it. He then also said he would take me back to return it a few days later. After my trips to Beppu and Yufui village (Not to be missed) and not to miss the outstanding and beautiful surroundings in Uekimachi and the Aso region. The manager and I set off to return my hire car, on the way back he took me to Kikuchi shrine to pray and also gifted me coffee and cake. They also accommodated me with use of the on site onsen (amazing) after hours as I'm heavily tattooed. I feel truly grateful to have found this hidden gem of rural Japan and if you are thinking of traveling this great country I emplore you to go off the beaten path. I experienced untold kindness during my stay and have memories of a life time. Thank you so much guys

DDenis GrI wanted to hide from the crowds of tourists and feel as close to nature as possible.
The place is simply magnificent, the location of the ryokan is generally ideal. There is a magnificent view from the window, the sound of the water is very relaxing!
A huge plus was the presence of 3 shared onsen (family bath) which did not need to be reserved! Just come and take the ones that are free (They are open 24/7)!
In general, the topic of hot springs in this ryokan is a hotel conversation, the temperature is pleasant. 2 open-air onsen (very beautiful with different themes), 2 closed onsen (open 24/7) and 3 shared (private onsen)
Kaiseki (dinner/breakfast) was magnificent, we spent 2 hours for dinner and 1 hour for breakfast. There was a lot of food, varied and interesting. Everything was incredibly delicious! In general, we were fed there with:
The staff is very polite, they will help, explain, speak English.
We asked to leave our things before leaving because we still had a lot of time before the bus and the staff kindly agreed! Thank them again!
In general, it was a wonderful trip and a very beautiful place! In the evening, if you are in season, they light the lights on the river and it becomes completely magical!

TTraveller CI stayed at this hotel twice. The second time (this booking) we had a room on the older (?) wing and it was almost twice the size of the first one. So for this review I will only share feedback on this “older” room.
This room was big and thus good for us as we had 2 large luggage and more space in the room allowed us to open and pack our luggages with ease.
The bathroom was large with the large traditional bathtub. Toilet had bidet and etc but lacked heating which made it very cold in the winter. Basin tap was still the old turn types which was not eco friendly as it’s more difficult to shut it off.
Location was just opposite the train station which was excellent. But the nearest convenience store is also only at the train station which is about a 5-7mins walk away.
Breakfast was curated to suit the Japanese palette more and ends at 9a.m which is really way too early!!
We left something behind in the hotel but they managed to send the item back to us at our new hotel (still in Japan) which was highly appreciated.
Despite a few minor shortcomings listed above, the pros still outweigh the cons and I’ll definitely be happy to stay here again.
AAaamayGreat location , easy access to public transportation, good shopping mall next door, nice staff, easy check-in and check out … only downside is that they didn’t have enough non-smoking room so I got stuck with a smoking room … not exactly ideal but made the most out of it …
GGuest UserThis is a very conveniently located hotel, right between two tram stops. If you plan to travel around, a one-day pass is highly recommended as it's very cost-effective; otherwise, a single ride will set you back 200 yen. There's an Aeon supermarket about a 15-minute walk away, perfect for grabbing affordable groceries to cook your own meals.
It's a FAV-affiliated property, so the kitchen amenities aren't as extensive as at the main FAV hotels, but they are perfectly sufficient for most needs. The only thing to note is that while there's a washing machine, it's not a washer-dryer combo, so keep that in mind if you have laundry drying needs.
The room features both a Western bed and a tatami area. It's spacious enough to comfortably open up multiple suitcases, and I believe it could easily accommodate three adults.
