Excellent location, super close to the main shopping street and plenty of dining options. It's also very convenient to Kencho-mae and Kawaramachi stations. The room is indeed very small, with the toilet, shower, and sink thoughtfully separated. There's barely enough room for one large suitcase; any additional luggage would make it difficult to move around. The lobby offers a nice selection of complimentary amenities for self-service, including makeup remover, facial cleanser, toner, moisturizer, and various bath products. Free self-service drinks are also available in the restaurant. For stays of three nights or less, only bath towels are replaced, not the bed sheets. Besides this and the small room, everything else was quite good.

The twin room was really cramped; there was hardly any space after putting down the two beds. The hotel's main advantage is its location near the port, perfect for island hopping. Out of all the hotels on our Shikoku trip, this was the only one that didn't provide complimentary bottled water in the room. We stayed here the night before to catch the 8:04 Slowbro ferry to Shodoshima. Later, we moved to a hotel near Kawaramachi Station, which was half the price, had a larger room with a massage chair, and plenty of restaurants nearby…

Due to the suspension of the Marine Liner, I was unable to return to Okayama where I had planned to stay, so I quickly found this place and ended up staying here. I had never stayed in a guesthouse before and was unsure of the facilities, but when I stayed there, it was surprisingly comfortable. I was able to relax without any inconveniences. However, when I returned late at night after a concert and tried to enter the building, I panicked because I couldn't get in with the PIN number. I was worried about what to do with another group at the entrance, but after a phone call, they came quickly and we were able to enter. That was the only thing that made me nervous this time. I hope this doesn't happen again.

Hotels in Shikoku, Japan, were cutting back on electricity due to the Fukushima disaster and had no air conditioning. When I arrived at this hotel, I asked the front desk if they offered any services like skinning and peeling. The novel *Red Sorghum* mentions this in the Gaomi County Gazetteer during the Anti-Japanese War. If it's cold, you can add layers, but what about the heat? The room was over 30 degrees Celsius! A burly waiter privately complained to me. We ended up borrowing an electric fan to solve the problem. Humorously, to combat the heat, the owner solemnly announced: everyone can get a free popsicle at the front desk every day. The hotel rooms weren't large, but their only advantage was that they had windows, and they were so close to the station that you could practically touch the hotel building's wall as soon as you exited. There was also free breakfast and a 1760 yen buffet, which was excellent value. Borrowing bicycles was also a great experience. A few hundred meters north of Utatsu North Exit, there's an AEON, a secondhand shop selling various daily necessities, and a seafood shop to the east… all very interesting and charming experiences. Of course, here, you need a firm ”revolutionary will” to crush the poison of the decadent capitalist lifestyle. Along the Seto Inland Sea coast, both Shikoku and Chugoku offer stunning views reminiscent of the Thousand Islands, especially the pure blue sea and sky merging seamlessly, a breathtaking sight in autumn. If Monet had been born in the Seto Inland Sea, he wouldn't have left behind ”Water Lilies,” but rather the magnificent and gentle blue sea for Impressionism! However, the UV radiation is extremely strong, so women need a three-pronged approach: sunscreen, sun-protective clothing, and a sun umbrella! With prices soaring in Japan recently, I'm posting a few photos for comparison. It's easy to look good in clothes, but looking good in person is difficult—perhaps this is just gilding the lily.

I booked an accessible room, and it was genuinely spacious. It's really comfortable to stay in a 35 sqm room in Japan. There was a slight odor when I first entered the room, but it cleared up after I turned on the air purifier. Downside: The soundproofing isn't great. Upside: Everything else is a plus. The location is excellent. There's an airport shuttle right downstairs, which costs 1000 yen and goes directly to the airport. There are frequent services, almost hourly. Location: Whether you're going to the airport, Takamatsu Port for island hopping, or the JR station, everything is within walking distance. It's a 12-minute walk to Takamatsu Port, which was perfect for our island-hopping itinerary. Mitsukoshi department store is just a few minutes' walk from the hotel, and it has an LV store with plenty of stock. There are also many choices for drugstores, restaurants, and cafes. The room was cleaned daily. One time, I forgot to hang the 'please clean' sign and thought it wouldn't be done, but when I returned to the room, it felt completely refreshed, which was a lovely surprise. I forgot to take photos of the room, so I've included a picture of the beautiful blue sea and sky instead.

I was surprised by how small the room was for a hot spring ryokan. With two suitcases, there was barely any room to walk. There was no Wi-Fi signal in the room, and the explanation given was that too many guests were using it simultaneously that night. Wi-Fi was only available in the hallway and lobby. Although the staff tried hard to resolve the issue, there was no solution, so we had to use our own mobile data (as an apology, they gave us a small souvenir when we checked out). Additionally, the 'one night, two meals' package... At over ¥2200, it was ¥1200 more expensive than just the room, but both dinner and breakfast were very mediocre. Compared to a hot spring ryokan I stayed at previously on Shodoshima (which wasn't great either, but at least the food was refined), the meals here were far inferior. There were only three small slices of sashimi, and there were even fish scales on the fish. For ¥1200, two people could have had many better dining options outside. The hot spring was decent, but nothing particularly impressive.

My friend and I stayed at Webase two single rooms during our trip for Setouchi Triennale 2025. Although it is a bit far from the station and Takamatsu Port (20 minutes on foot), it is very close to shopping area, and the food streets, Many restaurants and cafes nearby. Friendly English / Mandarins speaking staffs, easy self check-in/out. All was as expected and described.

The hotel’s service was exceptional, with staff going above and beyond to make our stay memorable. The scenery was breathtaking, offering stunning views that made every moment special. Breakfast and dinner were outstanding, featuring delicious dishes that showcased local flavors. To top it off, they surprised us by preparing a famous local cake to celebrate my wife’s birthday, which was a delightful and thoughtful touch. Everything was perfectly arranged, and their attention to detail truly impressed us. This hotel exceeded our expectations, and we’d highly recommend it to anyone looking for a remarkable experience.

Price is good. Location is great, just 5 mins by foot to JR Takamatsu and the train station Takamatsu-Chicco. Staff is helpful and nice too. However, the room is old and aging on the amenities. Dust is on the desk, on ceiling, and near the air-conditioner. Carpet looks not washed for quite some time. Fortunately the bed is comfortable and I feel hygiene on it. For someone who has high standard of hygiene, this hotel would not be an option for them.

SSiukwangI highly recommend this hotel for those seeking a quiet hot spring experience away from crowds. It is located a bit remotely from the city and surrounded by nature, which I absolutely love! Driving here is quite accessible. Since I planned to stay for more than one day, they provided a free pickup from the Kotohira JR Station, which is also very convenient. All the staff members are friendly and helpful. This low-density hotel has around 26 rooms, so it sells out very quickly, especially during peak season. There is a small gift shop, but I found everything I needed there. The room met my expectations, offering enough space with an outdoor deck and a private hot spring tub. I could hop into the hot spring tub anytime. If in the summer, I would be sitting on the outdoor deck to take in the views of the woods and nature, listening to the birds sing. The lotion provided is of very good quality; I use it every time I finish in the hot spring, as it smooths my skin. I should check if the gift shop sells it. The minibar is well-stocked with coffee and tea, and a 2-liter bottle of water was provided, along with a filtered water tap in the washroom. The public hot spring is spacious, allowing for plenty of privacy. One thing I wasn't sure about was that they provided us with a twin bed room. Since I was there with my husband, we expected a double bed room. We didn’t check with them about it because we decided to use the futon bed instead, which was surprisingly comfortable. I ended up sleeping even deeper than on a regular bed.  We were also confused about the futon bed setup requiring an extra charge, guess it was considered an extra bed. However, they arranged it for us without charging extra, which we really appreciated!  The dining experience was fantastic as well. There are different sessions in the restaurant, and they assign different tables for each meal, making it feel like dining in various restaurants. The service was very professional, with the staff explaining each dish to us. Even though one server covered two tables, I felt like they were serving us privately and gave us enough personal time. The restaurant closes after breakfast and before dinner, which gives you a great opportunity to explore the area during lunchtime. There are also delicious udon restaurants nearby. Just a heads up, though—I didn’t notice any room service available, so if you want snacks in your room, it’s a good idea to prepare your own. I am looking forward to staying in their other branches!

DDaily happyDuring my recent trip to Japan, I had the pleasure of staying at a hotel that also serves as a wedding venue — and from the moment I arrived, the level of service was simply impeccable. The staff were not only gracious and professional, but also went out of their way to assist me at every turn, despite my lack of Japanese language skills. Their warm hospitality left a lasting impression and made me feel truly welcomed and cared for. Though the room was compact, it was exceptionally clean and thoughtfully arranged. As a solo traveler, I found the space more than sufficient — cozy, comfortable, and a fantastic value for the price. It truly struck the perfect balance between affordability and quality. A special mention goes to the amenities: the hotel provides a well-stocked amenity station at the reception, where guests can freely pick up whatever they need — a detail that reflects the hotel’s attention to guest convenience. While the location is a little removed from the city center, this wasn’t an issue at all for me, as I had a rental car. The added bonus? Free parking on-site, which made my stay even more convenient and budget-friendly. Overall, this hotel exceeded my expectations in so many ways. With its blend of elegant ambiance, exceptional service, and thoughtful touches, it became a peaceful and comfortable base for my journey — one I would gladly return to and wholeheartedly recommend to fellow travelers.

Aaleu aleuThe staff of Olivean Shodoshima Yuhigaoka Hotel are professional and considerable. Their service are excellent, especially 1) The shuttle bus driver (morning shift strong man, forgot asking his name). When we arrived at Shodoshima Ferry Pier at 11:00am on April 7, we found a hotel shuttle bus, but not sure if it's the one of our staying hotel. We asked the driver if it's the one that waiting to pick us up. He said yes, but the hotel check-in time should be 3:00pm in the afternoon. He suggested us to have the sightseeing first and helped register the afternoon time for picking us instead. Also, he suggested taking our hand carry bags to the hotel front desk to avoid we carrying too heavy bags while travelling. 2) The lady staff (sorry for forgetting her name) at the lobby hall, who was very proactive. She came over immediately to help taking photos for us when she found we're taking a selfie. She also served us with free drinks for enjoying the sunset at the hall. 3) The staff at the reception desk are very professional. They helped us for check-in, explained the details of the time for meals, and provided all the information required. 4) The foods for dinner & breakfast buffet are very nice and yummy. The restaurant is clean and tidy. Overall, Olivean Shodoshima Yuhigaoka Hotel is a very professional and comfortable accommodation for stay. We're pleased and feel glad choosing this hotel.

AAnonymous UserIt is at a very convenient location near Takamatsu Port, JR station and Kotoden station, so it is a good starting point for attractions around Kagawa prefecture. There are restaurants nearby but supermarkets are somehow a bit far away. Independent socket, lighting and curtains are available to provide privacy for dorm bed users. Temperature in the dorm room was ok but the toilet was a bit cold in early morning.

MMinqiuThe hotel is located above the Shikoku Bank building in Marugamemachi, with the front desk on the eighth floor. Minamishinmachi is right across the street. The area is bustling and transportation is convenient. There's a taxi stand downstairs, and it costs about 800-something yen to take a taxi to the JR station. There are public bus stops within a 5-minute walk, making it very easy to get to Ritsurin Garden and the train station/port. The hotel offers a variety of room types. I booked a twin room which was 28 square meters, spacious enough to lay out 3 or 4 suitcases. It's great value for money. The hotel service is excellent. When I was leaving for my next destination, the Kotohira Onsen hotel, I asked the front desk to help me contact them for pick-up. The two ladies at the front desk were incredibly patient and kept confirming the details. I'd give their service a perfect score.

GGuest UserThe room is quite compact, with a 1.4-meter double bed, leaving very limited space to move around. The hot springs on the hotel's top floor are a definite bonus! They offer complimentary ice cream (3:00 PM - 12:00 AM) and Yakult (5:00 AM - 10:00 AM). After 9:30 PM, you can also enjoy hot spring ramen. For breakfast, they serve udon with tempura, which is very authentic and delicious. As for transportation, take the bus from Takamatsu Airport to Chuo Koen-mae (Central Park). After getting off, walk back a bit, and you'll see the Dormy Inn next to a gas station. From the hotel, if you turn right, you can walk to the Michelin-starred Ritsurin Garden. Turning left will take you to Takamatsu Port, where you can catch various island-hopping ferries. There are also many great restaurants directly across from the hotel. Overall, aside from the room being too small, everything else was fine.

GGuest UserThe hotel is only a few mins away on foot from JR Takamatsu station. The room (a double-bed room for a single traveler) is small and dated but in terms of cleanness and comfort, it still is quite alright. The hotel offers free drink in the lobby in the evening, which seems to be a common practice nowadays in Japan's business hotels. There are a number of restaurants nearby and the main pedestrian shopping street is also just less than 10 mins away. To sum up, if you need to be near the JR Takamatsu station or Takamastu port for a short stay, this is a very affordable choice. Reminder: if you need to catch airport bus to Takamatsu Airport in the morning, go to the starting stop which is located at the main road outside of the ferry terminals. The bus, in my experience, was fairly empty when I boarded at the starting stop, but quickly filled up after the 3rd stop and you might need to wait for the next one.
