W well-located Hotel with friendly staff and good food. The Hotel is a bit dated in its appearance and could be at an upper grade if rooms/bathroom had more standard items eg hairdryer, draw/shelf space). A ceiling leaking water into a bucket was not the fault of staff but did not create a good impression in reception.

quite a distance from Durham about a 15 minutes drive … quiet farm area. nice quaint rustic inn. only gripe is the mattress needs to be changed in room 1. it sinks in the middle and is too soft . room n bathroom has been renovated and the bathroom is done nicely !!

XXu20090117Very good experience Breakfast in the room only needs 5 pounds service charge. The hotel culture is well integrated with the local area. Durham deserves the title of the first, and the cost performance is very high at more than 1k. The room is very spacious, but the lighting is very dim, and the air conditioner makes strange noises due to the age of the hotel. It is recommended to book the western restaurant in the hotel, T-Bone is delicious.

GGuest UserBooked for two nights to go to Beamish museum . Travelling by train. Walk , part uphill to Castle takes about 30 minutes from the station. Uber £ 8 bus quite complicated.  There is a bus from town centre to the hotel  but it’s quite complicated suggest if unable to walk book a Uber. Bus  from town centre to Beamish entry very easy,  £2.50.  Now for the Castle itself. You can’t help falling in love with the quaint and worn castle the ‘worn’ being part of its attraction. We stayed in the stables in an upstair room. Stairs are quite narrow with small landings so  not suited to those with hip and calling difficulties. Bed , bedding and bathroom immaculate and very comfortable. Room very peaceful with early waking of bird song. Bathroom had a separate magnifying mirror which was very much appreciated. Down side was the dust on the beams over the bed hence the lower score for cleanliness.  Now for the breakfast and restaurant service. Faultless. Food of the highest quality with service to match. Breakfast matches the London 5 star ratings.  Overall this hotel was exceptionally good value and a place we plan to visit again. We highly recommend this for anyone visiting Beamish who appreciates high quality food, something a little different, peace and quiet who enjoys a lovely bath.

GGuest UserAbsolutely spotless and finished to a high standard. Decor is modern and appealing throughout. Staff are helpful. Lovely restaurant and fantastic coffee served there. The only slight issue I would say, is that you can hear guests in the next room very easily and this isn’t desirable for obvious reasons. We sadly ended up with very noisy guests in the room next to us the first night we stayed and this caused considerable disruption to our sleep pretty much all night. Saying this, we didn’t notify the staff though (so they may have been able to help) as there was no phone in the room. The next night was fine and completely silent so this would be dependent on who you have staying near you.

The hotel is relatively old but clean and has all the amenities needed (including an iron and the ironing board). Nice and friendly staff at the reception, who kindly assisted with the printing of some documents. Good location because it is within walking distance from the Durham Cathedral and the campus

GGuest UserMore like a club 18-30 experience. The hotel was fantastic, food excellent and staff went way, way beyond. However, the main function of a hotel is to have somewhere to sleep. The hotel had two weddings on the night of my stay and between 12:45 and 14:30 I was unable to sleep for the screaming, laughing, partying that was going on throughout the corridors. I never heard any staff trying to resolve the situation, just plenty of noise. I had to pay £20 surcharge for my dogs to stay and they were not allowed In the restaurant - which is very reasonable, but have to say that they were better behaved that the other animals who were not required to pay any surcharge or not required to follow any basic behavioural rules. On checkout, I was not even asked if I had a pleasant stay. I assume the staff did not want confirmation of their mismanagement. If this is the sort of establishment used but Trip.com, then I can only say first impressions go a long way and I will stick to other hotel brokers in future.

AAnonymous UserFirst I stayed in the same brand hotel in north Durham for 4 nights, and then I stayed in this hotel in the city center for 12 consecutive nights. The location is very convenient, very close to the city center square and the train station, and the scenery nearby is very good. , The room is clean and the front desk staff is friendly. It's just that the natural wind blows all the time in the room, and it seems that it can't be adjusted to warm air or turned off. However, the temperature was not bad in early October, and I will stay here again if I have the opportunity.

GGuest UserLocation was perfect for our needs, near to beautiful Yarm! The amenities were good and a dip in the pool was perfect after a hot day! Overall cleanliness was good, just needed a few touch up here and there, tiles missing in spa area a Nd our bathroom looked tired! Disappointed that there was no compensation for broken key card machine and we found this unnerving as it felt very ‘big brother’ being tracked on our every move! A drink at dinner, complimentary breakfasts or bar meal would have been a nice gesture!
