We recently stayed at the Canberra Rex Hotel as a family of three, traveling from Sydney to celebrate the New Year. While there were some positive aspects, our overall experience was disappointing.
Starting with the positives, the reception staff were very nice and courteous, which we appreciated. We liked that it is very near a light rail station and quite close to parks, restaurants, and cafes.
The layout of the hotel posed challenges. Our room was quite far from the lifts, and with only two lifts positioned side by side in a corner of the building, accessibility was inconvenient. It seems the hotel design is to blame, as the lifts are not centrally located like in most hotels.
One of the biggest letdowns was the pool. We specifically chose this hotel for its pool, hoping our little one could enjoy it. Unfortunately, the pool heater was not working, and the water was freezing cold. To make matters worse, we noticed some bugs in the pool, which was unsettling. The staff wouldn’t have known the heater wasn’t working if we hadn’t informed them. It felt like the pool's maintenance and condition were overlooked, which was a major disappointment for us. Had we known that we won't be able to enjoy the pool, we would've settled in a hotel that is far more affordable.
As compensation for the pool issue, we requested and were granted a late check-out, which was a kind gesture from the hotel. However, it didn’t feel adequate given the inconvenience and disappointment we experienced.
Additionally, the King Suite we stayed in had some practical flaws. It only had one bin, which was insufficient for a family of three, as it filled up quickly. Another inconvenience was the shower area, which didn’t have any shelves. This meant we had to place shampoo and conditioner bottles on the floor while showering, which was far from ideal.
Overall, while the reception staff’s service was commendable, the hotel fell short in terms of facilities and maintenance. I hope the management takes these points into consideration for future guests.

Fantastic little rooms that are central to everything, great customer service, and the rooms are full of all the amenities that you would need.
I would recommend it to everyone and certainly stay here again. Especially visiting during autumn is recommended as the city is so beautiful this time of year and with the views from the windows it make it so much better.
A little distance from the city centre. I am self-driving and it doesn't matter. The facilities are very convenient, as well as bbq equipment. A lot of foreigners have stopped a variety of motorhomes. There are sports venues and children's rides.
The hotel is very good, stayed for two months. Gungahlin life is very convenient, nearby Coles, Aldi, Woolworths, Bunning Warehouse, Kmart, BigW supermarket, shopping is convenient. There is also a light rail and convenient transportation. There is also a lake with ducks, black swans, and beautiful natural scenery. Love Gungahlin here. If you study abroad and immigrate here in Australia, you can take the PTE test. I'm trying to take the PTE test now. Friends who need information can contact me, WeChat tutehub.
Great location when you’re in Canberra. About 15 mins walk to Kingston shops and restaurants. 5 mins walk to Good Neighbourhood Cafe on Wentworth Avenue. Major Canberra tourist sites not far away.
Park Suites Zero One Hotel, this hotel is very good, very good, the room is large and parking is convenient, the hotel restaurant is also delicious, the hotel's location is also very good, very quiet and very good
The Abode in Woden was the nicest motel we’ve stayed in for a long time . The location was great . Staff were very friendly and helpful and the restaurant served great food . Would highly recommend this place for anyone looking for an affordable, clean modern motel
A hotel that exceeded expectations. I booked a one-bedroom suite with a large living room, a separate bedroom and a kitchen. There is a supermarket near the hotel, so it is very convenient to buy steak and cook it. If you are too lazy to cook, there are also Chinese restaurants nearby that are also delicious. The most important thing is that the hotel has free parking. You don't have to worry about roadside charges or parking is too expensive. You can park anywhere you want, which is very important in Australia.
Located in the heart of Canberra, but very quiet, there are two supermarkets around, there are options, the rooms are spacious and suitable for family outings. Probably not the tourist season, there are many parking spaces in the garage. The room provides ample kitchen utensils to cook your own food. The kids are very happy playing in the pool.
We used on business trip, but charge was cheap and was all right. Good location and very convenient. I was impressed with the polite response. The room is clean and perfect.

TTravelerAShaIf you make a quick trip to Canberra for leisure, I recommend this hotel, which locates just 10 min walk from the terminal building. It is super convenient to hop a R3 bus to the city center.
GGuest UserBreakfast value for money
Overall very good value for money, good location. An adequate budget hotel if comfortable staying somewhere comfortable not wearing top of the range clothing with top of the range accessories.
Curtains need new hooks, but facilities in room adequate and clean
GGuest UserThe hotel has a new layout and complete facilities. The service is very thoughtful. It has a swimming pool, spa, sauna and everything you need. It's great!
GGuest UserGood location which is less than 10 mins to most key attractions. There are plenty of dinning options surrounding the hotel as well as woolies and the labour club for food options. Parking is easy on-site unlike other canberra hotels.
GGuest UserIbis Budget Canberra is at a distance of some 7 km from the city centre which is quite remote and not easily accessible, especially at night time. On the other hand, Ibis Budget room charge is quite competitive and is ideal for travelers who have limited budgets. The concierges are polite and helpful and help make your stay very pleasant.
YYingXuanLHyatt Hotel is located beside Lake Burley Griffin. Easy to reach by car but seems like there is not much public transport nearby. We rented a car for our trip in Canberra so accessibility wasn’t an issue for us. Hotel parking was AUD30 in their underground carpark. They recommended for us to park on the street parking. Paid parking for daytime from 8.30am. Parking overnight was free. Popular landmarks of Canberra was within minutes drive from the hotel. Snapper & Co. restaurant was 5 minutes drive from the hotel and they serve great fish and chips! From the exterior of the hotel, you could tell that the hotel is of a certain age. But the interior was grand and nice!
The room was spacious and clean! Was surprised to see Le Labo amenities! Bath salt was also provided. Had 2 other rooms on a different booking, and they managed to allocate rooms side by side. By far the best hotel I have ever stayed in!
TTHUAN ANIt’s a perfect place to stay. everything is nice, receptionist is friendly. Big kitchen and have rice cook. You can take some free food. Location is near Canberra centre, super market, shopping mall. Near bus station to airport. Worth to stay if you visit Canberra.
EElaine Yuen YanThe hotel is quite good. The parking was in increased to A$28 if not pre-booked but trip.com says only A$15 and no need to book. The hotel ended up waiving the first night parking when we asked and we parked on the street the next day.
The hotel room is very big and the beds are quite firm and comfortable. The bathroom is a good size but would appreciate rubbish bags into the bins because it feels like I can't even put in banana peel because I don't want it to go to mush inside the bin and someone has to dig it out and wash the bin.
There is an iron and ironing board in the room with safe, extra blanket and pillows. The only complaint for the room is probably the noisy air conditioning.
Food at the bistro inside the hotel was pretty good for dinner and the buffet breakfast had a good variety but it is the same everyday.
GGuest UserWhat an amazing stay.
Everything was spotless, comfortable and a lot of thought put into what we would need as travellers.
Food was amazing for both breakfast and dinner. Best meals I’ve had in a long time.
The issue we had was difficulty with check in. There is not a ‘person’ there to help with anything.
We will definitely be back again!
