We stayed as a family of 3 including 10 year old child for 7nights, the first week of July. I wanted to write a review as I believe previous negative reviews have been unfair as this is actually a good hotel. Yes check in was busy when we arrived but it is a busy hotel, we arrived at 1pm ish and were advised to leave our luggage in the luggage room (which is lockers- you will need euro coins) and to come back in an hour or so. We got changed in the pool close by bathrooms and headed to check out the pool. We were half board and we were told we could swap for arrival day only, dinner to lunch which we did. Lunch was nice, fresh and plentiful. The system for drinks is that you pay for what you want at the front desk of the buffet restaurant then take your receipt to the bar. If you are a family I would suggest buying the reusable water bottles for €10 from reception as then you can refill for free throughout your holiday. We were not advised of this till day 4 and did regret not doing it. This is a plastic free hotel so bottled water is not available to buy at the hotel bars only by the cup. The 2 pools were great, our daughter preferred the pool with the slides so we got beds there each day, parasols are limited so would suggest putting towels out 7.30/7am like we did, we preferred the black reclining beds by the other pool closer to the bar but the slides was where it’s at. The daily entertainment takes place here too, with volleyball and other pool games, our daughter especially liked the activity where they place a mat on the pool & the kids have to run across it without falling in. 4pm each day was party time and the entertainment team did not disappoint. The pool bar is quite far from the pool with the slides with a lovely shaded bath pool inbetween which was ideal in a heatwave. Our room was very clean and modern, although on the small side. Double bed plus sofa bed made up for our daughter which she was more than happy with. Beds were comfy as were the pillows and bedding was great. Bath towels are small so bring your beach towels. Bathroom has hairdryer and Dove body wash and shampoo. We had to put our cases under the beds due to the lack of floor space but it didn’t impact on our stay. The balcony was great with a pool view which we didn’t request but was more than happy with. The fair to the side of the hotel is great, you must buy tickets but perfect up to age 11 we’d say. Lots of restaurants close by, we’d recommend Antalya for breakfast. Roadhouse for Tacos and Last Orders for their smash burgers! Really friendly staff at all. We also visited Spaghetti house which is 10mins walk in other direction which was delicious. Medplaya Calypso has everything you would expect from a 3 star plus. The drinks prices are fair, the food is good, it’s very clean, the staff work hard especially in the restaurants, altho some bar staff by the pool looked like they didn’t want to be there, I blamed the heatwave. It’s my only criticism al
Response from Property: Dear guest, Thank you so much for taking the time to share such a thoughtful and detailed review of your recent stay at MedPlaya Hotel Calypso. We truly appreciate your kind words and are delighted to hear that you and your family had an enjoyable and memorable holiday with us. It’s wonderful to know that so many aspects of your stay met your expectations — from the cleanliness of the room and the food variety, to the entertainment and pool areas. We’re especially happy to hear how much your daughter enjoyed the pool with slides and the fun activities from our animation team! Your practical tips for future guests are very valuable, and we thank you for highlighting the reusable bottles, entertainment schedule, and nearby dining options. We’re also glad that our team was friendly and welcoming throughout your stay — even under the heatwave! We take all feedback seriously, and we’ll certainly look into the points you’ve mentioned regarding parasol availability and bar service, as we’re always aiming to improve our services. Once again, thank you for your kind words and support. We’d be thrilled to welcome you and your family back in the future for another great holiday. Warm regards, Guest Service Manager MedPlaya Hotel Calypso

Visit because they where the cooperating hotel with Challenge Salou. Had half board, dinner was between 20-22. Arrived at 2030, there was a queue up one stair and 15 meter in the reception. Chaos. Still the same length at 2100. Receptionist just shrugged their shoulders. We had to go for dinner outside the hotel. For athletes that depend on a regular schedule this is just not good enough. But also for children and elderly it is simply not good enough! Avoid this hotel for full or half board! This was May, in high season it is probably worse. And please #challenge Salou never use this as preferred option in the future!
Response from Property: Dear guest, Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We're truly sorry that your experience during dinner did not meet your expectations, especially on such an important weekend. While we understand how frustrating queues can be — particularly for people who rely on routine — we’d like to reassure you that this was an isolated situation. MedPlaya Calypso has been a proud partner of Challenge Salou for years, and we've consistently welcomed hundreds of athletes and companions with great satisfaction. Although moments of higher influx can happen — for example, when groups return all at once — our team works hard to manage the flow efficiently. A queue might appear long at first glance, but in most cases, the wait is significantly shorter than it seems. We’re sorry that you felt the need to dine outside and appreciate your suggestion, which we'll share with the relevant teams to ensure smoother coordination during peak times. We hope you were otherwise able to enjoy the event and that you might give us the opportunity to welcome you again under better circumstances. Kind regards, Guest Service manager MedPlaya hotels

We booked this hotel for 1 week all inclusive for 6 of us and I have to say we were quite disappointed. I have always said Turkey is the best for all inclusive holidays from my previous experiences with Turkey and Spain and this hotel just confirmed my thoughts. The hotel it self was very clean and so were the rooms. Staff were very polite and helpful, the food was poor and mostly cold, there was not much of a selection and they served very similar food daily. The que for dinner time was ridiculous and you could be waiting for some time before you got to a table maybe this could be due to mass amount of school breaks that were staying here this particular week and the dining area would become a free for all. We never bothered with drinks in the main restaurant as again the Que was huge and with only 1 member of staff serving I’m not surprised. The snack bar which before we booked, we read it had burgers, chips, pizza etc, instead consisted of pre made sandwich’s, pastry’s and pancake machine big let down. For a 4 star hotel as stated I would expert a lot higher standards all round, mini bar filled, water in rooms daily, snack bar more choice and hot food at breakfast, lunch and dinner times. We all enjoyed the main town and restaurants along the strip were of a good standard. Would I stay at this hotel again unfortunately it would be a no.
Response from Property: Here is a professional and empathetic response to the review: --- Dear dmorros, Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback following your recent stay with us. We’re pleased to hear that you found the hotel clean and our team friendly and helpful — your kind words are truly appreciated. However, we're sorry to learn that other aspects of your stay did not meet your expectations. Your comments regarding the food variety, temperature, and service during busy dining times have been noted and will be shared with our food and beverage team, who always do their utmost to provide varied menus to suit all of our guests. It’s true that during holiday periods, such as school breaks, the hotel can be busier than usual, and we’re continually working to improve the guest experience even during peak times. The snack bar by the pool for all-inclusive guests, includes snacks, drinks, and ice creams and we are sorry that these did not meet with your expectations on this occasion, and thank you for your feedback. We're sorry to hear that these issues impacted your overall experience and that you did not bring your disappointment to the attention of the team in the hotel during your stay with us, which would have given us the opportunity to look at options to enable you to enjoy your experience with us. Nonetheless, we thank you again for your constructive comments — our guest feedback is important to us, helping us to maintain and improve the service we offer. Kind regards, Guest Service Manager MedPlaya Hotels

Very good Hotel, as an English man I only had a few chips twice in 2 weeks and that's saying something. The choice of food was good. Apparently they had a machine that only made 2 cocktails but being half board that didn't bother me. Supermarket about 3 minute walk away. Fridge in room plus hairdryer, soap and shampoo dispensers. No kettle. Room was very nice and clean with towels and sheets changed daily if required. Daily games etc was entertaining, pool slides etc were very good for kids. Nightly entertainment was good and bad. Would i go back, definitely. Very enjoyable with nice, friendly staff. Town centre about 5 minute walk and beach about the same. Fairground as shown in photo is around the corner from the hotel.

Holiday from 06-16 April 2025 We stayed here the same time last year and had the same issues, but we thought we'd give it another go, in case it was a one off...it wasn't... Let's start with the good (won't take long) 01. Great selection of food (when you can get to it) 02. Hotel always clean and smelling fresh 03. Great facilities - 3 pools, games room, souvenir shop, numerous bars and lockers to put your luggage in on leaving day, if you have late transfers (2 Euro's) Now the bad... 01. When we arrived, it took half an hour to check in. Apparently the receptionist was a new starter and was struggling with international guests having to use their passports to check in. She wanted me to leave my passport until she sorted it. Not happening. I stood there until she sorted it. She was friendly though. 02. Totally ruined our holiday (this year and last) There were numerous parties of teenage children coming and going. As some left, you could guarantee they'd be promptly replaced by another party. Believe they were all on some sort of sporting activities. This wouldn't be so bad if they didn't do everything together. It was meal times that ruined our stay. They would all come for their meals together. You couldn't get near the hotplates (the cold food wasn't too bad to get to, with exception to the ice cream) The queue for hot food was enormous. They didn't mind jumping in front of you in the queue either. On one occasion, we were in the queue outside the restaurant with the teenagers, when the restaurant opened and we eventually got in, we were told we'd have to wait until the rest of the teenagers had entered, some of them hadn't even arrived yet. Five minutes later, we were let in. I was fuming. Also, they were told to stick to left of the restaurant and us the right, fair enough, but they kept coming onto our bit, god forbid we went onto theirs, staff all over you. 03. You had to pay for water at dinner and tea, as there are no drinks machines. You had to go to the bar for this. They supply drinks for breakfast though. They say you can ask for tap water for free, but this is all they supply you with when you pay for it; in recyclable bottles. 04. Most of the staff were miserable in the restaurant. With dozens of teenagers rampaging around, I can understand this though. 05. You had to pay to use the safe in your room. 06. No tea or coffee making facilities in the regular rooms. 07. The housekeepers kept moving my showerhead to the bottom of the slider and facing the showerhead against the wall. I found this very annoying, having to reset it every day. All this is a shame, because the hotel itself is great. It just gets let down by the incessant marauding of school children. They need to come up with a plan at meal times. Maybe get them in before the regular guests or give them their own hotplates. Needless to say, we won't be staying again. We only holiday at this time of year, so will have to try somewhere else. My advice, if you wa
Response from Property: Dear guest, Thank you for your feedback and for choosing to stay with us again. We’re glad you appreciated the food variety, cleanliness, and facilities, but we’re sorry to hear other aspects didn’t meet your expectations. During peak periods like Easter, we do host school groups, and while we try to manage dining areas and timings, we understand it can affect the experience. Your comments will help us improve coordination and guest flow. Regarding water service, complimentary tap water is available upon request, though bottled water is charged. Extras like the safe and in-room kettles are optional amenities. We hope you’ll reconsider visiting our quieter MedPLaya hotels In Benidrom or Costa del Sol, where the atmosphere may be more suited to your preferences. Thank you again for your comments. Stayed here for three nights in April. Check in was fine and no issues. On arrival in bedroom was large free bottle of wine and water . The room was ok, bedroom that had three beds. No issues really with the room . Few dents and dirty marks on the walls but nothing major. The real issues were with the restaurant, we given a allocated meal slot of 9 pm until 10 pm, the restaurant was super busy and felt uncomfortable with the amount of people in there especially all the older people and groups of school kids. It was a matter of getting food eaten and getting out there as quick as possible , food times were relaxed. There was at least over 150 kids staying in hotel and making noise and being stupid. I was glad we were only using hotel as a base to spend all our time in theme park. Don’t think I be returning again to this hotel in April. In June, July and August experiences in hotel have been much nice when full of normal tourists .

Response from Property: Dear guest, Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us. We’re glad to hear that your check-in went smoothly and that you appreciated the welcome amenities in your room. We’re sorry to hear that your experience in the restaurant and the atmosphere during your stay did not meet your expectations. However, we always aim to maintain a pleasant environment for all our guests, and we’re sorry if this wasn’t fully achieved during your visit. We hope you enjoyed your time at the theme park, and we would be happy to welcome you back in the summer! Kind regards, Guest Service Manager MedPlaya Calypso

New pool slides great for kids. Food is poor and the dining room is a free for all. My son (7) had a great time at the pool. Although doesn’t open till 10.30/11. Queuing is something you will be doing a lot. If you want a drink at the pool bar 10 mins, queue for the dining room can take time, you don’t get seated just free to roam and then get moved when you do find a table. We have been on other half board holidays so we didn’t expect much but did think there would be water on the table with dinner as we have had in the past. €2.30 for that pleasure that gives you 3 glasses worth. Loads of fruit which was one of only good things. The night entertainment seemed good, we didn’t go as our son doesn’t enjoy the loud music. If you are unlucky enough to be in the rooms above the stage you won’t get any sleep till 10.30pm. Rooms are quite cramped, pretty clean but the drains absolutely stink. It’s like an open drain and takes over the room. Hallways are very loud and you can hear doors getting back most of the night. This was our second visit and will be our last.

Our stay at the Hotel Calypso was our 7th (and probably final) medplaya holiday. We would like to try a new type of holiday going forward as our children are now grown up (our youngest is 17) and we feel that medplaya holidays mainly cater for families with younger offspring. We really like the hotel itself, we found our room to be plenty big enough for the 3 of us and our daughter loved having an alcove for herself. We also had a large balcony with a view to the swimming pool and the nightly entertainment. We had no issues at all with cleanliness and the cleaning staff were friendly and efficient. Overall we felt the hotel staff were, with one or two exceptions, friendly and treated us well. We would particularly single out Rosaria, from the restaurant, who was lovely and Adama, from the snack bar, who was also lovely despite dealing with some very awkward customers. All of the entertainment staff were great, especially Luna. We enjoyed Aqua Dance nearly every day and we also enjoyed taking part in the meddy games. On the downside, the black male serving in the bar adjacent to the snack area was rude, unhelpful and impolite. He seemed to not want to take any orders. In addition, there were other bar staff who were rather surly and made no effort to speed up service even when there was a long queue. Our biggest gripe, however, was the food. Whilst we understand that the hotel has to cater for a wide range of tastes and guests from many different countries, we felt that there was very little on offer for British tastes - no roast dinners for example (we have eaten them at other medplaya hotels) and no English style bacon at breakfast. We struggled to find something we liked on many occasions and, talking to other British guests, we heard the same complaints from others. Many people went to eat elsewhere despite being all inclusive. Some fruit was put out day after day until it started to go off and lunch dishes were often leftovers from the night before. To our horror, tripe (sheep intestines) was served one day! It seemed to us that the restaurant budget was being skimped on and the standard had dropped a lot from 2024. Whilst the food was a negative for us, we did still enjoy our stay overall so a 3 star review is appropriate.

I visited this hotel in summer 2024 with my school. We, a group of 60 15/16 year olds and 5 teachers, stayed here for 5 nights after visiting from Northern Ireland. I'll start by saying the room was alright, we were only in it to sleep. One issue was that the pullout bed that my friend slept on had a sharp edge along the bottom, which she sliced her leg on. I can't speak about any of the entertainment such as the shows, pool or any of the activities as we didn't do those. The worst part was the chef. He was extremely rude. Our group had our own private room booked for meal times. It was in the glass area by the pool in the dining hall. On the first night, my 2 friends and I walked down with the rest of our group to find that there were no more tables left for us to sit at as the rest of the group had completely filled it. We asked our teachers what to do and they told us just to sit at one of the main tables in the dining hall. For context, the dining hall was empty apart from about 3 tables with families. There were hundreds of tables so we didn't think it would be a problem to sit at the one closest to our booked area. Well we were wrong!! The second we sat down the chef ran over and immediately started yelling at us. He told us to go away and sit where we were told to or we'll get kicked out. My friends and I told him the booked room was full and we were told to sit out here by our teachers. He scoffed and didn't even let us finish. He tried to lift our plates away from us, and this is when our teachers asked him what the problem was and why he was yelling at children. He then rolled his eyes, rubbed his face and started shaking his head, muttering in spanish. Me and my friends were left feeling totally embarrassed and really upset. This was our first, and definitely my last, visit of this hotel and to be treated badly by a staff member just made our experience terrible. It was pretty late at night and we were all exhausted and to make it worse, the food wasn't even worth it! Bland and tasteless are 2 words to describe it. The mozzarella sticks were the best but the tomato sauce for the pasta could have fooled me as it looked like orange water. Honestly not a very nice experience. The hotel was clean and the staff at the counter were honestly very nice, but the chef was nasty.
