The hotel is beautiful, and comfortable. Staff are very attentive and helpful in every way, from front desk to cleaning the rooms to serving the meals. Sadly the hotels spas and sauna were not functional and the “free” service at the Polynesian was over crowded and full of kids. No towels were supplied and an extra charge is charge to get a towel. But the experience is not overly unpleasant. Location is great as it is close to all attractions and the lake.

Friendly and knowledgeable staff. I would suggest reviewing dinner menu. Whilst food was reasonable felt it was out of packets and heated. Dining area and bar were chilly even though heating was on.

Really nice hotel in great location. Staff very helpful and friendly and would stay here again. Pool not open during our stay but they gave us free option at Polynesian Spa so could not complain.

Excellent location, right in town, so handy to restaurants and shopping. Room could do with a freshen up but still beautiful inside. The room was advertised with the use of a spa pool, which was under maintenance. The hotel did provide free entry into a spa down the road, which was amazing. The room was also advertised with supplying robes, which our room did not have. The breakfast buffet had a lot of options and was well worth including in the stay.

I really enjoyed my stay at prince gate. Was pleasantly surprised there was a SPA, thermal pool and they gave a first floor room so it was easy for my elderly parents to enter the property.

Not great considering the cost to stay. We had to wait 10 minutes for someone to turn up at the reception, and then we had to ask twice for assistance to check in.  Little to no hot water (tepid would be accurate) meant we had to walk out of the complex (with towels and toiletries) and down the main street and back into another room at the other end of the complex to take showers - both nights! Not at all pleasant as it was quite cold and very inconvenient.  And the spa didn’t work and was out of operation. Probably due to no hot water.  No lift meant lugging suitcases up a lot of stairs and no one to help.  Certainly wasn’t a great place to stay. Think we could have stayed somewhere better at half the price and less trouble.

The receptionist was lively and location is great with a short walk to the lakefront. It was disappointing the cleanliness of the room and bathroom as it was dusty and we found hair in our shower and sink as well as on the walls.

The advert is largely misleading: not all rooms are classic/historic in deco but many are plain modern - roomy but modern, and there is no laundry facility although so advertised. When raised this reception wasn’t concerned. Apparently, No laundry had been available for a long while! We also suspect that sofas may have carried bedbugs of some kind. Breakfast buffet was quite good. There indeed is a hot pool in the yard. The hotel is close to the government gardens and a short walk from the spas and restaurants, and the bowling club.

Room was very disappointing. We thought we would be staying in the original hotel building however our room was in an additional newer building down the road. The room has a poor layout, furniture was worn, carpet was dirty, curtain rail rusting, poor tiling and painting. Did not have the historic special feeling we expected. Photos looked 4 stars, room looked 1 star in the flesh. The room was expensive compared to other options in town. We couldn't believe it and wanted to cancel our 2nd night. Staff were great but the room was not what we wanted

I love this hotel. To be honest, I didn’t expect much when it comes to old and vintage hotel. But when I entered the hotel, I found the hotel is quite special and unique. Yes, it’s old and vintage but it is also well-maintained. For the room, I like it because it has big windows including bathroom and the sunshine can get through. For the location, I like it because it is so close to the central bus stop, Eatery Streets and Polynesian Spa. Because I don’t drive so location is very important to me. Like many other places in NZ, this hotel seems to be short staffed too. But the staff still did the best to serve. They are nice and friendly. I wish I could stay in the hotels for a few more couples and enjoyed the unique atmosphere there. I would stay again if ever I go to Rotorua.

Checked in. Went to room. It looked nothing like pictures. Two beds squeezed into a room. Old carpeting on floor. Musty smelling. We returned to front desk. Provided a different room with single queen as reservation stated. However it is still not the room pictured when reservation was made. Clearly, they have remodeled some but not all the rooms. Shower was very small and kitchenette appliances are old. No tv in bedroom and limited sockets. Cannot reccommend.
