Overall a very solid hotel with very welcoming and helpful front desk staff. The rooms are decently sized for NYC and well-appointed with the essentials. I was impressed when on at least one evening there was even turndown service. The shower took a minute or so to have a proper water flow, though the pressure was never all that great. I appreciate having the Nespresso machine and pods in the room. I’m always glad to stay at this property especially because I very much like the location, not in the heart of a touristic area but still with many fantastic places to eat, excellent subway connectivity, and convenient shopping for the basics.

The rooms at the Hyatt Regency are a bit small, and the location is close to New York University. The elevators are small and only one is open. The front desk is also small. The overall feeling is average and does not match the price.

For context: I've lived in NY for 10 years and have traveled to 45+ countries so I've had my share of hotels. I'm not the type to complain and be Karen; I was on a business trip and just wanted things to work without having to raise issues multiple times. Con's: there was no hot water when I checked in properly to the hotel. I had to call 3 times - i) I was told someone will call me back, but to no avail, ii) I called again, and was told that engineer has reset some program so it should be good.. no hot water for the next 10-15 mins so when I called the third time, iii) I was told that engineer was on it / might be on in 30mins; they said they'd followup with confirmation. I waited 2 hours (until 1am) and nothing. I woke up, again to find out the whole building is apparently out of hot water (shocker). So I understand that things can break and the staff doesn't have control over it; I was more disappointed by the way the staff handled the situation - no followups via phone/email, the nonchalant / dismissive 'i-don't-care' attitude, and lack of accountability. This lack of concern for guest was just unacceptable. Moreover, my room was never cleaned properly. Every day, I saw that the bedsheets and towels were changed, but there was 0 effort to put things back (e.g. hangers), clean the floor, nor empty the trash daily. I've stayed at other Hyatts and lower rated hotels but haven't encountered this. Overall I'm just disappointed with this hotel / chain all in all and I don't plan on coming back. Of course, this was my personal experience so if anyone's just looking for a good location (Union Sq) then go ahead.

The location was perfect for our purposes, but this was a very disappointing Hyatt stay due to the state of the room/bathroom even though we didn’t have high expectations to begin with. We had to move rooms as the strong bleach smell in the first room gave me a headache. The second one was slightly better with windows opened and with our own room air freshener to make our stay bearable during the peak Xmas holiday season. We’ll never stay here again unless major renovation takes place.

We stayed in a small but very comfortable and quiet room on the 4th floor. The space was sufficient-- it is NYC, after all. The bed was comfortable, and we appreciated the Nespresso pods (and that housekeeping regularly replenished them!). The location is phenomenal-- a block off of Union Square, a 5 minute walk from Joe's Pizza, less than a 10 minute walk to Washington Square Park, and in the same block as The Strand! And of course, easy subway access to anywhere else in the city you'd like to go.

We came to the city after a wedding upstate to see our daughter who’s attending college nearby. The hardcore construction on the block and building was a bummer, but the hotel itself was nice. The standout was their staff. All great! Professional yet personable. There was something wrong with the AC and I woke up in the middle of the night sweating. I kept having to get up to reset it so it would go again and it would for. While but kicked off again. I told them in my way out so they could take a look at the situation before the next guest.

Industrial air-conditioning units outside are extremely loud if you're not in a city facing room - try stay on floor 10 or higher Air-con inside is loud, walls are thin, can hear neighbors alarm going off, showering, all the doors slam automatically when left to close. The staff were very friendly and professional.
