We stayed at JW Marriott Medan for several days to allow our elderly grandmother to rest and recover following her leg surgery. While the purpose of our visit wasn’t leisure in the usual sense, the experience highlighted what truly defines a great hotel: not just its facilities, but the service culture behind it. From the outset, our stay involved a number of special arrangements, from shifting booking dates, providing in-room breakfast service as our grandmother couldn’t access the restaurant, and attending to several ad-hoc requests. Across every touchpoint - reservations, front desk, concierge, lobby ambassadors, housekeeping, and the restaurant team , the response was consistently attentive, flexible, and genuinely warm. What impressed us most was not a single interaction, but the consistency across departments. It reflects a deeply embedded service culture and strong leadership, where standards of care are clearly communicated and upheld by the entire team. This is what transforms a hotel from simply offering well-maintained rooms and branded facilities into delivering a personalised guest experience marked by grace, efficiency, and empathy.
