Sadly I would not stay here for a conference. Wifi was extremely poor. Given a code at checkin but could not get any signal strength despite changing rooms 3 x Seems wifi is not actually available Rooms were very average Some had a jug but only 3 in 1 coffee. Not suitable when you take coffee black and unsweetened Curtains are white so room very bright when sun rises. Decor tired On the bright side the aircon worked and the beds were comfy Was going to go for a swim but no pool towels and only one bath towel in room Food average. The fish was nice but had a number of bones in it Entree and main came out together so I didn’t get to enjoy the starter and still have a hot main. The bread rolls were served with margarine not butter so also not edible The location is stunning so such a shame no attention is paid to the details

Rooms were fine. Staff friendly and helpful. Nice grounds and salt water pool. Restaurant didn't open until about 630 for dinner, but they were able to do pizzas for us earlier. Grilled fish was pretty good too. Also some nice birds on the grounds.

Booked deluxe room, is a noise hell. There's a conference taking place right now and the hotel parking lot is packed with SUVs. The Deluxe Rooms are located opposite the reception around the car park. On average every ten minutes the extremely loud alarm system of one of the cars goes off, either from the driver's remote control or from birds, I have no idea. This goes on all day and until late in the evening, sometimes at night too. Sleep is a problem even with ear plugs. I intervene on the first day and want another room further away from the parking lot. Reception is reluctant, at first I was promised a smaller bungalow by the sea (rocky shore, no beach), but then the receptionist in the afternoon wanted a high surcharge. This goes on for three days. I was always promised a conversation with management but it never happened. On the last day I meet the managers by chance at breakfast: a German couple. Their office would be right next to the reception, they would have looked for me too, I would have been given another room. I just don't believe that because I was easy to find and all the receptionists said that the managers weren't available. There are supposed to be three restaurants, but only one is open outdoors because an earthquake caused some damage, including in the large pool. Nobody knows why the small pool next to it full of water, clean and attractive, is not allowed to be used. There is no room service, and I'm not allowed to take my food to my room, which means I have to eat outside in the evening, surrounded by crowds of people and mosquitoes. The food is bad anyway for such an expensive hotel, basically junk food. Seasoning is unknown. Service is zero, except for the laundry, which works quickly and well.

The room was a beautiful pavillon in a paradise-like garden along the seaside. The people there were very welcoming. One of the most perfect places we found in PNG. I would love to come back again once! Our guide in Madang, Thomas Dedman, is a perfect host and an unforgettable gentleman.
Response from Property: Dear 915geertp, Thank you so much for your kind words! We're delighted to hear that you found Madang Resort beautiful and welcoming. Stayed for work. Would stay again next time for sure. Pros: Waterfront room was amazing, incredible views. Aircon worked well. Bed was clean and comfy. Reliable hot water. 24 hour gated security. Restaurant was clean, with a decent range of food on offer. Resort pool was amazing. Cons: The gym is dilapidated and most of the equipment broken. Wifi required a topup every 100mb which was a bit cumbersome.

The views over the water, the islands, the ocean are amazing.... paradise. The resort is showing its age. But the grounds, the plants, the statues, wildlife (birds) are amazing. It is a laid-back location. The staff are amazing, friendly, welcoming, as are all the people of PNG I have met on this trip. Just do not expect a western city botel experience. For a somewhat remote city (Madang), this is a great experience.
Response from Property: Hello Michael, Thank you for sharing your experience with us on TripAdvisor! We're thrilled to hear that you found the location and views amazing. It's true; our natural surroundings in Madang are truly a paradise. We appreciate your feedback regarding resort's age, but we take a great pride in maintaining the beauty of our grounds, plants. statues and the abundant wildlife. It's wonderful to hear that you enjoyed the laid-back atmosphere and the friendliness of our staff. We couldn't agree more about the unique charm of Madang - it's a place where you can escape the typical Western city hotel experience and embrace the remote, authentic beauty of the area. We hope your memories of PNG continue to inspire you, and look forward to welcoming you back in the future sunny and warm regards Thomas General Manager

It was my first time to visit Madang Province and stay at MRH,I loved the surroundings, the gardens were so green and beautiful, most of the facilities remained and gave the classic vintage looks. The restaurant service was so good, I love the Pitpit Mornay and the steaks. Being from the Music Industry and someone that appreciates how people take care of vintage musical instruments, I had the opportunity to try out the Yamaha Disklavier Upright Piano at the Haus Kibung and the Alex Steinbach Grand Piano at the Haun Win. Please maintain and look after them. Can't say much though, Keep up Late Sir Barter's legacy always. Thank you.
Response from Property: Dear Andrewkpg, Thank you for sharing your first experience @madangresort. We're delighted to hear you enjoyed the beautiful surroundings and classic vintage ambiance. We appreciate your kind words about our restaurant and your appreciation for the musical instruments. We'll strive to uphold Sir Barter's legacy.
