Very nice stay, very friendly & welcoming staff and the room we had had the view on the garden which is beautiful! The common area is nice for sitting down for a drink with friends!

It wasn't the most pleasant experience considering that the males n females had to share toilets and that some other rooms had private toilets n bath instead. And also the fact that the walls are super thin hence whomever is connected to your room if their loud or they don't like your voice volume than you might get kicked to the curb. It's a very frustrating experience for sure since it tests one's patience n ability to let go. It's training for the customers n monks alike. I met a Japanese friend here whom shared with me how rude the monks and the staff were to one another n I think that shows the quality of this place however we were pretty lucky as there was a male who spoke mandarin n a male who spoke English both quite well in this place n though the mandarin speaker was quite condescending towards the other monks, the English speaker was really nice n patient overall. He helped me out a lot since we couldn't communicate with the others n seemed to be the only customers that spoke English whom booked this place by ourselves, the others around seemed to have a guide n were usually in groups.
It's a unique experience n I recommend just staying for one night or going to the other temples. I went for the ajikan meditation at eko in temple n the service n cleanliness was on another level for sure. The food here was also really simple. Also a must see are the tomb area n the walk to kobold daishi temple. As a sensitive person, I felt the overwhelming love n presence and the cleanse of my heart of this amazing soul over there. To me, that was worth it. Remember to clean yourself with the water out front before going in.... and of course to the amazing fateful friendship that occurred for us with the jap-taiwanese couple we met. It was the next fav of mine after the time spent in nara visitor center. That was truly magickal n how I wished we stayed longer there. But all was good cause the way I planned this trip made it so that we would have this fateful encounter to the end of our trip.

6:50 is morning class time, you can observe
Okunoin is nearby and it's easy to walk there.
You can also see deer coming from the mountains in the courtyard in the morning
If you don’t care about sitting the Japanese way when eating, you can get a folding chair when you enter the restaurant.

Very interesting experience
The room is very comfortable. It feels good to stay in a temple for the first time.
Quiet environment
First time tasting Japanese vegetarian food
The food is ordinary but has a different taste

Thank you very much!
It's what I want! Thank you very much for everything Akamatsuin! I attended morning classes, made a wish, and bought (pleased) a lot of leaves from the Sancobalt pine!
When I checked in, I received a five-color bracelet as a gift!
Everything is super happy😄
Don't compare with city hotels because they are completely different.
The room is very big, because it is underground and connected to the garden, which is so happy.
The toilet and bathroom are separated, and the dry and wet areas are separated, which is good.
Slept peacefully. I often don’t sleep well in hotels outside. A holy place indeed!
The dining area is very precious, with precious furnishings and screen paintings! But unfortunately, it seems that some guests did not notice this preciousness.
Another unexpected joy is that the hair dryer is from the Panasonic negative ion series! Hair is not dry after blow-drying❤️
On the first day, it rained on the mountain and snow fell on the mountain. Although it was very cold, it was beautiful!
I hope to visit this sacred Mount Koya again next year when the weather warms up! I hope I can book a room at Akamatsuin again by then.

Temple located next to the Okunoin cemetery, we were accommodated in the Shojoshin-in Temple (Pilgrim's Lodging), the staff was very friendly and communicative, they gave us a gift and the possibility of participating in the fire ritual and morning prayers.
There are onsen baths to use.
The delicious vegetarian food and breakfast is offered in tatami rooms outside the room.
The cozy room. Perfect.

The room price for staying in this facility is over 1,000 yuan, which is a bit expensive.

It was a clean room with a toilet. The food was truly Buddhist cuisine, and although it wasn't luxurious or delicious, it had the feel of a meal at a lodging.

Perhaps because there were too many tour guests, the number of loungewear (samue) that was supposed to be provided was not enough.
Many guests, myself included, were not satisfied. . .
(Since the number of guests staying on the day should have been known in advance, Akashoin was sure of the crime and should have prepared in advance.

Terrible temple. Chosen for location and I booked a private bathroom. I arrived and was told they had overbooked. I was taken to a temple at the opposite end of the town with only communal bathrooms. Was only refunded a small amount after complaining to the new temple.

This was such an interesting and enjoyable experience. The rooms have you sleeping on a mat on the floor, so if that doesn't sound appealing, don't go. We slept very well on those mats and if you need a little more padding, try using a couple of pillows they use a seats in the room. There's a terrace; ours overlooked the garden from the main floor and the garden is not bad. Quite peaceful. There are vending machines! But if you want beer, go across the street to the convenience store - and those beers are very inexpensive. The supper and breakfast are vegan. Lots of tofu and rice as you are seated on the floor (some opted for little stools). I can't say it was the best food I've ever eaten but there was good variety and it gave me insight into the life of a monk. It's an easy walk to the Okunoin Cemetery, which is massive and well worth a visit. The onsen (public bath) is excellent, offering both indoor and outdoor options. We attended a religious service early in the morning and some of the attendees were offering up prayers written on a piece of wood. The monks prayed for those needs and then burned the pieces of wood during the service. If you attend the service, for the love of God be respectful; turn your cell phone off and don't take photos.

Recently had an overnight stay and what a lovely tranquil environment Our room and ensuite were clean and comfortable with heating for the chilly night so we were cosy warm. The meals were great. The staff were very helpful. Such a shame that the big groups were so loud at meals etc and did not adhere to the simple rules such as photography of monks at the morning ceremony. So disrespectful.

Bare and cold with arcane bathrooms No explanation of tradition for foreigners. No interaction with hotel staff or monks. Not the educational experience we were looking for. Better choices available near by
Response from Property: No wonder. We wouldn't stay in a convent and expect too much. You're not a good traveller and you have no taste for writing reviews

Not just somewhere to stay but a truly special experience. The temple is located right beside the Okunoin cemetery, a very atmospheric place for walks especially in the early morning or late afternoon. The meals were amazingly good, always tasty and filling, and attending the morning ceremony before breakfast was a great experience. The monks and other workers at the temple were always polite and friendly, and made us feel very welcome in this special place. Our 2 nights at Sekishoin was definitely the highlight of our 3-week holiday in Japan.
