Nice traditional Japanese style hotel. Nice beds. We couldn’t book breakfast or dinner upon arrival. Very close to torii. Would stay here again

My reservation included breakfast and dinner. When checking in, the receptionist informed us that we were not told to eat Kaiseki cuisine, so the included breakfast and dinner can only be provided with bento boxes for use in the room.
I have booked many hotels in other cities in Japan, but I have never had a bento with meals included. If this hotel was a special case, the system should have prompted it when booking, making you feel like you were cheated.
Other services and environmental sanitation are very good.
Although it is a long-established hotel, it was well-cleaned and, although you could feel the history, it was clean and we had a very comfortable stay.
The room we stayed in was a VIP room, so it was larger than we expected, and we were able to stretch our legs out in the bathtub and relax in the bath.
Pick-up and drop-off was also arranged according to each guest's schedule, which we were very grateful for.
The location is also excellent, with Itsukushima Shrine just a three-minute walk away.
I would like to visit again, this time with my parents.

This may be the hotel closest to Itsukushima Shrine. The room is very large, and with the tatami, it feels like it can accommodate 4 people, which is suitable for a family. There are Chinese-speaking waiters for check-in and dining, which is a good experience. The food level is not inferior to a well-known chain hot spring hotel I stayed in a few days ago. Fortunately, I was arranged to have a room with a terrace and rocking chair that can see the big torii. It is worth staying on the island for one night. You can go to see the night view of the torii at night, and you can hear the deer calling when climbing the mountain in the morning.

It is really worth staying on the island for 1 or 2 nights. The room was a spacious 1/2 Japanese 1/2 Western, twin beds and a large window. Some confusion with staff when being shown to our room and with information on the shuttle service. Dinner and breakfast were included. The degustation dinner was beautifully presented, but our server was a bit painful with the understanding of English. We tried, as she wanted to learn English for a future trip, but it took up so much time. The public onsen here can get very busy later in the night.

This was an unexpected delightful place to have been recommended to us located on the Miyajima island via ferry from where the JR West Miyajimaguchi Station. The staff were delightful and attentive who also looked after a minor mishap my wife endured when one of the local island "friendly" deer bit her in attempting to get her ice cream cone. beware ! We thoroughly enjoyed the ritual of dressing in a kimono for dinner which was a ten course array of local Japanese dishes.

We stayed one night on Miyajima Island and are so pleased we did. The service is just superb from the moment you arrive until you leave. We give a very special mention to Masa who showed us to our rooms and was our waiter for the evening - excellent and friendly service from him throughout our time there. This is a very comfortable hotel - we had the Japanese room with Western beds and this was one of the best onsens we used with one indoor and two outdoor pools. Miyajima gets so busy during the day but wandering around in the evening and seeing Itsukushima Shrine lit up is so beautiful and peaceful. Definitely recommend staying overnight and definitely recommend this hotel.

We had a one night stay at the Miyajima Grand Hotel Arimoto. Our room was very modern and spacious but maintaining the traditional ryokan style. The hotel is very conveniently situated for all the site seeing spots of Miyajima. The traditional dinner and breakfast were both excellent. All the hotel staff were extremely polite and helpful.

This ryokan is disappointing. After having done ryokan in Hakone, Kyoto or Koyasan which were amazing experience we were thinking having the same experience. While the dinner is relatively okay, the rest is not at the level of an hotel billing 600+ USD. The room is having stains on the carpet and pillow. Certain furniture are very old and with stains or broken. Fridge is bad state and contains only glasses sanitized. What’s the point? The bathroom does not have kit like body lotion, cream or any other kits we found in all hotel in Japan including 3 stars. Everything is done to not well please customers like you have only one towel for both the public bath and your own bathroom so it’s always wet and you mix the sweat from the sauna with the clean body after a shower The were hairs from other guests in our bathroom. No pillow offer like foam pillow. We reported this to the staff but they were unhelpful. Spending 15 minutes to explain the situation the guy came to check in the room and went to the bathroom with his non clean shoes. The only solution to all of this is two extra towels. I do not recommend this hotel for foreigners. It’s’ below standards and expectations.

Decided to stay at this hotel because of its close proximity to Itsukushima Shrine and the Torii Gate. Wanted somewhere that I can quickly go to take sunset shots and quickly head back to the hotel, given the low temperature during evening. It was within <5 min walk. A ********* lady staff managed my check-in and introduced me to my room. She also served my delicious dishes during dinner and I was relieved as I need not worry about using Japanese to communicate. Night falls and I was unfortunately down with a bad stomach flu with constant vomitting. Needed urgent assistance but had to wait till 7am before there is English/Chinese speaking staff to manage my concerns. Thankfully there was a clinic open from 9am-12pm, given that it was a Saturday. The hotel helped me to book a taxi there as I wqs too weak to walk. Before that, a male Japanese hotel staff gave me some medicine to curb my vomiting. I really appreciated these help rendered by the various hotel staff, especially when I was travelling alone. Thank you and I hope to visit again.

Perfect location 3min from the large tori. Very large rooms. Western style: very comfy beds. The Japanese style rooms are even larger. Futons ok but quite hard (we did put an extra futon under ours. Bathroom is somewhat outdated but functional. Breakfast is very good and plentiful. Diner with a multi course menu is excellent. Staff is super friendly and helpful but has very basic knowledge of English.

We decided to stay the night in Miyajima to avoid the crowds of daytrippers to the island and so glad we stayed here. The staff were so friendly. A special thank you to Takashi Yoshimuta. The room was Western with a very spacious with a Japanese area next to it. Beds were comfy and sheets were good.

I first visited Miyijima in 2011, as a day trip from Hiroshima (like most people). This time I knew I wanted to stay for a couple of nights on the island - which proved to be a great decision as the island is so enchanting in the evening once most of the tourists have gone back to the mainland. Most of the accommodations on the island are Japanese in style, and so it’s an obvious place to get the full Japanese experience. Unfortunately I struggled a bit to find somewhere to book, as many traditional-style places don’t accept solo travellers, however the Miyajima Grand Hotel Arimoto did and so I booked it. I booked a Japanese/western style room, which had twin beds plus a large tatami mat area where additional guests could sleep on futons. The room was large, although the bathroom was very small. My room came with a large outside balcony area (by the looks of it only a couple of rooms get this - it’s not the norm) with a swing seat overlooking a side view to the Tori gate. This was a really lovely place to sit in the evenings. The staff were very helpful, and I had a lovely personal and detailed introduction to the room, which can’t have been easy for them to do in English! One of the main features of a ryokan-style stay is the food, which is plentiful, extravagant, intricate and (to us westerners) very unusual. They accommodated my request for no shellfish with no issues. You have to be a bit of an adventurous eater (by western standards) as many of the flavours and textures are very unusual. Not all were to my taste, which is to be expected, but regardless the meal was a fantastic experience that I will never forget. The second night was a completely different menu, which they tailored to my request to include more meat (the Hiroshima beef was delicious). I was served by some lovely ladies who explained each of the 12 courses to me. The Japanese breakfast is similarly extravagant, although I did opt for the western breakfast on my second day which was lovely. All in all I would highly recommend this hotel if you want a traditional ryokan-style experience on the island. I would certainly return to it.
