I visited for a walk in the morning at the location adjacent to Hakone Shrine. Lots of green. A promenade full of flowers. A promenade on the shore of the lake. You can see Mt. Fuji beautifully, and you can also see pirate ships passing through Lake Ashino. The silence as if time had stopped. The chirping of small birds is comfortable. I was surprised to stay at a resort where the speaker was wired, but I don't need such a small work here. Hotel to enjoy hotel stay. The customer feels like a repeater is quite, a little elegant and noisy, old, gentlemen, ladies 々. It's not a place for noisy young people to go. The food was a long-established hotel, so I chose Western food. There were many reviews that Japanese food was good, but because it is a hotel, the food is elegant and a little on a large plate. Is delicious. I wonder if it's not enough, but it's enough. Upgrade of main dishes that are common in cheap hotels these days. It was also here. The course was changed to Hoho meat grilled Wagyu beef steak and brand beef steak. The chef served hoho meat, so I didn't change it, but it was an elaborate grill, but after all, hoho meat was hoho meat. I should have upgraded. It's a simple story, but I think the main dish is Japanese beef steak without discounting. 〇〇 Great deal at sale! I will stay there because the guide will come from the travel site, but I feel that every hotel is having a hard time with the main. Then, I wish I had stopped selling. The ladies I met in the hall were highly praised for Japanese food. Next time, if I can come to the flowering season, I would like to try a Japanese restaurant.

One of the nicest hotel I've been to so far! The buffet breakfast selections are crazy, crabs for breakfast? Count me in! From my room, there's a crazy view of the Hakone valleys especially during sunsets.
The staff are very nice people who provided the best for my stay. I was celebrating my anniversary with my partner and they offered a free pass to the bar & lounge.
Would definitely come again the next time.

I was seeking a ryokan with private onsens and the willingness to accommodate my primarily vegetarian dietary habits. I chose Hakone Gora Byakudan and was extremely pleased in every single way. We were a little on the early side (around 2:00 in the afternoon) when we asked someone at an information desk by Gora Station to please call the ryokan and ask if they could pick us up (as we had been instructed). Within 5 minutes we were picked up and brought to the beautiful ryokan, removing our shoes upon entry. The room was fantastic. We were in ”hako”, just off the lobby. The space was perfect! And we loved the privacy of the onsen. Both dinner and breakfast were served in a small private dining room. They indeed served me a vegetarian meal with many courses. My husband had some meat or fish in his meal and they provided us each with separate printed out menus. It was truly fantastic!

It was a perfect hotel stay for families visiting Hakone. The room was spacious for our family of three. Comfortable bed and well kept room amenities. The buffet breakfast and dinner food and drinks were delicious. We love our visit to the Hakone Kowakien Morinoyu which was included with our hotel stay.
The only thing I didn’t like was the checkin procedure. We had to use a machine to checkin instead of going to the checkin counter and have front desk staff processing for us. It was a terrible experience because the machine failed at recognising our passport and it was terribly hard to enter everyone’s details on the touch screen. I should have to do this myself as a guest. Please get rid of the machine check in.

First time in Hakone but not in Japan. Perfect choice! We were a family with a toddler, and the ryokan will be not a proper place for a child to be or enjoy the traditional setting. Green Plaza was a nice cross between ryokan ( we got a tatami room) but had the convince of buffets for breakfast and dinner. We enjoyed it all. Great choices for food, Eastern and Western. Local salmon was to die for, but pasta and pizza were solid as well. The room was big enough and we had a pleasure of viewing Fuji-san from out window. There is a store inside the hotel and you can get supplies and water/ beer for reasonable price. Not far from a ropeway station Ubako but we rented a car and it was a great idea to save time if you want sightseeing. Onsens were awesome and open late. Everything was clean! Overall, highly recommend, especially if you are not ready to commit to a traditional ryokan and picky with food or have kids. Would love to come back and explore the area more

Pleasantly surprised by the large room we got, with an enclosed balcony overlooking the lush green valley. Spacious bathroom. Clean room. Excellent onsite onsen - enjoyed the experience. Lovely dining areas and sushi restaurant. Free pickup from Odawara Shinkansen station (45 min ride to hotel). Hotel offers free dropoff and pickup to local train station so you can comfortably take the cable car to Lake Ashi. Highly recommend the cable car, boat across Lake Ashi and Hakone's open air museum.

A very new hotel with very good facilities and services. I checked in late so I didn’t know the location clearly. I saw some comments saying that dinner was not delicious, so I didn’t decide. I recommend walking to a nearby dumpling restaurant for dinner. It tastes very good. The public open-air hot spring is great, and the private hot spring in your room is also great, with great privacy. The only drawback was that the bed was too soft and I had lower back pain when I woke up the next day. Overall very good

This hotel is a historic property set in an iconic setting. We stayed in the Forest Section which features large, comfortable rooms that were a little dark, the bathroom lighting could be improved. Here is my issue. We arrived around 1:15 and we’re told that we could check in at 3:00. We had lunch in their cafe ( 50$) and asked again about an hour later if we could have early access. The very polite desk clerk replied “ Yes, for $70 dollars “. Astounded , I countered that we were departing early 2 days later, and he reduced the amount to $35. Now here is where communication becomes an issue: I continued the “are you kidding me?” and he kept bowing. I thought the issue was settled. That night and the next we ate at their lovely restaurants, French and the Cascade. Food and service was superb. With wine we spent about $900. Check out was early, and my husband didn’t really examine the bill. When we were back in our free early access room in Tokyo I noticed the $35 charge. I contacted the hotel’s customer service and they confirmed the charge. So, what about customer hospitality? I have NEVER been charged an early access fee for an hour. They have been times when we patiently waited for a room to be readied, and never demanded a rebate. It is all part of the guest/host agreement, I think this is probably a corporate decision by the Fujiya Group. Rethink your mission, guys, make guests feel wanted!

Hotel Indigo was recommended to us by a co-worker. She raved about how much she enjoy her stay, so we decided to visit for our Anniversary. We loved everything about this hotel from check in to check out, everything was amazing. The hotel staff always made us feel welcome, by greeting us (by name most of the time) whenever we were out and about in the hotel. Hannah checked us in. She was nice and provided us with information about the area. We had the breakfast included in our stay. The restaurant manager Koji-san was awesome. While not a picky eater, I do like my eggs cooked a certain way...lol.. On the first day of breakfast, my eggs were not cooked to my liking. When my plate was taken, Koji-san noticed that I did not eat my eggs. He immediately came to our table and inquired about the eggs. I told him that they were too soft for me. He apologized and asked if I had enough to eat and said that he would like to try again the next morning. I thought this was such a kind gesture. For the next 4 days, my eggs were cooked exactly how I like them. We had dinner at the hotel restaurant. It is a bit pricey, but the chef is very good. The salmon and asparagus were my favorites. Our anniversary was on the 22nd and we received a call from the front desk asking if they could bring us a gift for our anniversary. They brought us an assortment of sweet treats, which we enjoyed with a cup of tea. Very sweet. Our room was spacious, clean with the perfect temperature. The television was the largest that I have seen a Japanese hotel. Our room was on the riverside with a private outdoor onsen. While relaxing in the onsen, you can hear the calming sounds of the river. There is also a foot soak in the garden area. it was a bit to cold outside for me, so I didn't get to enjoy it on this stay. The hotel was cleaned thoroughly and safety precautions were taken. All of staff wore masks and for breakfast, we were provided with gloves to get continental items from the buffet. All tables were wiped down immediately after a party left and were socially distanced. The hotel is in close proximity to just about everything. During our 5 day stay, we visited The Open Air Museum, the Venetian Glass Garden, Gora Park, and The Red Gate of Peace. We will definitely be returning and look forward to our next stay in the Spring.

CcashIt was so hard to book a hotel in Hakone during Christmas season. I checked the popular hotels with high ratings a month in advance. They were almost fully booked and the prices were ridiculously high, often 5k/6k. I finally found this hotel for around 3k with two meals included, which was acceptable. Although it was located in a relatively remote Sengokuhara, I saw reviews saying that there was a bus stop right outside, so I chose this one. I took the Tokaido Main Line from Tokyo to Odawara-shi and transferred to the mountain climbing line T Togendai. I took the bus for about an hour and arrived at the hotel. As expected, I got off the bus, crossed the road and walked 100 meters to the hotel. There was also a large convenience store behind the station, which was very convenient for buying snacks and daily necessities. The hotel room was a neo-Japanese style, and I liked it. The courtyard is also very elegant. The bathhouse is of moderate size, but I only met one or two people each time during my three-day stay. The open-air bath is very nice. It is amazing to enjoy the beautiful scenery of the courtyard while breathing the fresh mountain air while taking a bath. The meals are healthy, delicious and creative. There are 7/8 courses from appetizers to desserts for dinner, and breakfast every day is also a rich and varied set meal. There are no repeated meals for three days. The local grapefruit wine recommended by the waiter on the last day is so delicious. We went out to play, eat and take the bus back to the hotel every day when night fell. The warm and familiar feeling is like going home, very cozy. It is a perfect blind box opening experience!
GGuest UserHad a large Japanese style room on the fifth floor. The place is characterful and the onsens feel original and charming. Being in our 60's futons and dining on the floor was probably not the best choice. There is no restaurant or bar so you dine in your room. There are a lot of courses, maybe 10, for both breakfast and dinner served in batches of about 3 at a time. We really enjoyed dinner the first night but less so the second - there is no choice so the individual dishes are to your taste or not. We didn't enjoy breakfast which is more like a small meal and not to our taste. The building is up on the side of a hill and the whole area in very hilly so not easily walkable. We had a car and went on the cablecar up to the lake.
AAnonymous UserI had a very nice and decent experience staying at Yumoto Fujiya Hotel. Not only was it near the Yumoto station, it was also with numerous choices of restaurants where you could enjoy lunches / dinners. It was particular meaningful to me as you can rarely see restaurants opened outside after 6pm, and i was super hungry at that time. But it’s better to reserve earlier if you decide to have dinner inside the hotel.
The room was clean, though not spacious enough (but it’s very common in Japan). The onsen was also nice which opened until 1am at night. Overall, it was a great experience.
GGuest UserThis ryokan is perfect for people who want to experience ryokan for the first time but want something cheaper within Hakone area. Situated on the main road with buses to Owakudani and train to Odawara. I'd recommend catching the bus from Odawara to this ryokan since the walking trail from the closest station to this place is hilly and has lots of stairs. Main road is not very luggage friendly so pack very light when you're staying here.
This place has very nice rooms with view to the river behind it. The view is spectacular when the entire river area is covered in red autumn leaves. Dinner and breakfast are very delicious, you will be served a range of traditional food from a la carte to dessert. You can also book your private indoor onsen FOR FREE. The ryokan also has an open outdoor onsen across the bridge for 3000 JPY.
The only downside of this place is the main road is very busy as it's the only way for people to drive from Odawara to Owakudani. So local people take this road to get to Owakudani. Buses from this place will not stop at there in the weekend. Your best plan is to go to Lake Ashi first and take the opposite route to Owakudani instead. Plan your trip in this area very carefully because a bus trip that would take 10-15 minutes will end up taking you 1 to 1.5 hours.
GGuest UserWe got this very large suite that was in the CONDO complex. It is outside of the main building but there are walkways in the back that allow transverse with the key. That said, it was incredibly comfortable. The beds were plush and comfy. Spring bath was soothing. The suite was HUGE!! There was a large sitting area as well as a patio. The entire place never felt crowded even though people were always checking in. I did not see anyone the entire time while walking around except during mealtime and the dessert hour. We signed up for both dinner and breakfast because we weren’t too keen on looking for a restaurant. It was the best decision because the food was very fresh and varied (although focused on Japanese more). It was buffet style with an extra personalized item that you get to order. Dessert was generous and there was a small bar to mix one’s own drinks. Afterwards, there is a dessert-beer-coffee bar that was just wonderful. It was like a mixer. The onsen was nice. We ended up doing only the private onsen and it was available both times. We also had the bath in the suite. Everything felt super clean and immaculate. The hosts and reception personnel were nice and friendly throughout. Check-in and check-out was quick and seamless. It is about 5 minutes’ walk from the GORA train station. There are lots of bus in the main street downstairs.
GGuest UserI visited for free. Although there are some negative points due to the old facilities, it is a price range that is easy to visit when you want to come to the hot springs, and the quality of the hot springs is not bad, so it is a new and fashionable facility, to stay without seeking gorgeousness. I thought I was there. Personally, according to the hotel rules, you can go back and forth in the bath with sandals in the room, so I think sandals have dirt on the shoes on the outside, but there are no other footwear in the room. I was worried about the aging of the washroom and the bus, because the boundary between the foot and the non-smoking area seemed vague, including the cleaning staff.
GGuest UserThis was a luxurious stay for us. The room was large and very comfortable, the private bath was wonderful, the buffet breakfast was delicious (and offers a variety for vegetarians); in fact, it was our favorite part of our trip and we wish we could have stayed longer. The downside is the hotel dinner is expensive and not suitable for vegetarians, so the hike down the hill daily for meals (and then back up it) was a bit tiresome. Definitely book the free shuttle service to and from the hotel especially if you have luggage, the “hill” it is on is in fact several steep inclines that are difficult for those less than moderately fit. Another highlight was the hotel’s commitment to honoring the UN SDGs and striving to reduce plastic waste. There’s absolutely no reason in this day and age for people not to travel with their own toothbrush and combs. If you happen to need such amenities, they are available for nominal fees, barely worth complaining over, as many reviews did. This hotel may be pricey, but it’s so worth it, and they’re doing some good for the earth, so the stay comes with more feel good feelings. We are already planning our next stay here.
This was my first experience at a ryokan. I am so glad that my sister booked a traditional ryokan with a private Kaiseki dinner and breakfast. We also had our own onsen in the room. It was so very relaxing and beautiful. The whole experience put me back into the days of old Japan. I would love to stay here again! The staff does not speak much English but they do use a translator tool that makes it easy to converse and understand. The food was amazing! The sleep was amazing. The room was spacious and accommodated 4 adults. The onsen was so relaxing. The lobby and ryokan is gorgeous and well upkept! We did stay in a newly renovated room-Zuisan. They are very accommodating to your every need. I truly felt like I was in Old Japan. I want to go back again soon. (note: I will update with photos later as there are so many)
SSaschaAn overall very pleasant experience. I stayed there one weekend for two nights and another for three nights.
+ The hot spring bath is very cozy with a nice nature view. The Sauna was great.
+ I wasn't satisfied with one room and could change to another room with large balcony without questioning.
+ The view from the hotel is wonderful, especially during nice weather.
+ Great value for money.
- Dining in the hotel is only possible with reservation, arriving spontaneously for dinner is not possible.
- The bar was closed. But the Gora Brewery is only a 10-minute foot walk away.
Sstarriiesinteresting balinese onsen ryokan. service was great, i couldn’t take raw food and my husband is allergic to prawns and they took notice for it and didn’t serve them during our half board meals (breakfast and dinner). the onsen water is certified to be natural and we could read the details of the certification from both the hotel reception and room toilet.
the private in room open air onsen’s temperature can be adjusted as well.
however the room’s shower’s door was not completely sealed and we found it very chilly to bathe even tho there was hot water supplied as the constant cold air from outside would come in. hope the hotel can take note of this and seal up the showering area’s door completely to prevent air from exchanging during shower.
it’s a jap-balinese fusion hotel, pretty interesting concept.
we drove during our trip around hakone area and be ready to navigate through very small and narrow roads while driving to this ryokan haha. really very narrow roads. hotel also requested for us to pass them the car key when we returned to the hotel, and to pass them the hotel key when we are heading out, which we found to be a little weird to be honest.
