Family friendly Hotels in Maxorata

Family of 4 - children aged 4 and 6 Please find our review of our stay this week. What were we looking for ? A child friendly hotel with a good base/room and heated pools close to beach with a short walk to visit local town to browse and eat out- not asking much! Firstly we went with jet2 - can’t fault their app/ all one price booking policy and updates before during and post holiday - they are our go to for majority of holidays for simplicity and efficiently. The hotel is 15 mins from the airport - we asked the lovely rep at our waiting coach how long we would be waiting for others and journey combined and as we were last drop off we kindly declined the jet2 coach and paid 17euros to one of the waiting taxis- after a long journey with kids - it was money well spent ( we took the coach back!) The hotel I won’t reiterate what others have already commented on - summary being - built in 2006 it’s time for some modernising that said it didn’t deflect from our initial ‘ what we wanted’ if you follow ! The staff are v friendly and they are what make this hotel - they go out of their way to make your holiday - thankyou to everyone who treated our children exceedingly well giving them confidence to go to the pool Bar and order own ice creams ! Two of the pools are heated which was perfect - the third, the largest was too cold for majority! The entertainment team around the pool Are excellent - they can leave you alone or get you to join in - they also put inflatables up for the kids and do aqua workouts. Some of the beds are broken and need looking at and I really can’t get my head around families ( especially in a nice hotel ) that reserve beds at 0800 in key locations and don’t use until 1130 onwards - come on hotel sort this out ! Also - I must reiterate what others have commented upon with regards the towel procedure - drop towels and collect from reception and they ran out often - can I recommend as per the hotel last year moving this function to the pool area - life guards can easily manage! The hotel is located on a lovely beach and is 20 mins walk to a small marina where we booked a boat trip - there are jet skis etc here also to hire even a sea lion to swim with! As a side note the sports bar opposite the marina has terrible service suggest you avoid as I wish we had! In between the marina and hotel are a few restaurants - smile restaurant on our first night hit the spot. Others have talked about poor restaurant choices - Irish bar and other similar, they are what they are however with some research we found some off the beaten track restaurants that were excellent and away from aforementioned bars - short taxi ride - 3.5 euros - see my other reviews on the restaurants we found! The beach in front of the hotel and round the corner - whilst ‘man made ‘ are lovely - rock pools for the kids - paid sun beds for adults or lots of space for towels! We had a few beach days and thoroughly enjoyed them. The children had a came

Very clean comfortable beds and sofa modern lovely host went at Christmas they put on shows round pool.it was cleaned daily inside and out the only thing we did not like was the paint colour needed toning down to make it more modern it's a sickly bright green god knows who chose that awful colour. Could also do with a few arcade machines instead of having to go into town for something to do like a ****** no idea why 2 stars definitely worth more than that rating.i will be going again

Lovely hotel, all the staff were very helpful and friendly. Because previous reviews mentioned building work across the road we asked for a pool facing room which was perfect and we had no problems with any noise. The beach was just a few minutes walk away with easy access. The rooms were nice and the beds were comfortable. We booked B&B and the breakfast were great with plenty of choice. We loved the area to walk around in the evening and there were quite a few restaurants to choose from however we ate in the hotel 4 nights which cost a very reasonable 18 euro per person with plenty of choice. The pool area was nice with plenty of sun beds and a pool bar. Renny the fitness instructor did a wonderful job and I attended classes every morning which I really enjoyed. We would definitely revisit this hotel which is something we have never done in the past so great holiday all round.

Only stayed one night as late booking due to poor punctuality of Ryanair . It is in a very remote location so I could not stay for more than 2 days but was ideal for a short notice overnight stop . See views were nice and the double glazing stopped at the noise from the sea. This was a waste as the walls were so thin your could hear someone cough in the next room. Felt like the cleaner next door was in our room with us . Never ate as had to leave early the next morning .

I rated a 3 because we stayed her last year and gave it a 5. It is a different experience. Clearly the leadership are delivering a different message to the staff. Last year they couldn’t do enough, we were blown away by the unique experience. We were so excited about coming back, but sadly we’ve been disappointed on numerous occasions. It’s just another hotel now. The staff appear gutted, I can only think this is the corporate experience as opposed to the previous boutique experience. It’s a beautiful hotel with great staff, but sadly they are not able to offer that unforgettable experience we had last year. It’s gone from a customer focus experienced to a revenue focused corporation. We felt like we were getting in the way here, that can be uncomfortable I was told that if I wanted to keep the iron for more than an hour I would have to be charged 9 euros….. in a 5 star hotel!! Bizarre.

This was my 3rd stay at the Riu Olivia Beach. Visited 18th September for a week. The hotel's location is the main reason I returned again. The weather was very hot. The actual hotel remains dated and is waiting for renovations to be approved although it does appear minor repairs are ongoing. My room (645) in the main building was a suite with separate bedroom and lounge and was clean. Towels replaced daily. No tea making facilities. Shower in bath. The rest of the hotel is clean. Food repetitive but always found something to eat. Self service Amstel lager, soft drinks etc. Staff friendly. Small shop onsite. Evening entertainment was ok. Bit of sun lounger reserving going on - the beach is an alternative venue with a few bars on it and loungers (paid for). I strolled along the beach to Corralejo a couple of times and less than an hour walk. Taxi back was 8 Euros. Outside the hotel on the main road is a bus stop and HiperDino supermarket. Taxi rank outside hotel. The lifts in the main building are worth a separate mention - 3 lifts and 1 didn't work. The other 2 were very slow, then when it did arrive usually already full of people, the doors sometimes start to close after a couple of seconds while you're still getting in and sometimes it didn't stop flush to the floor and you had to step up and out of the lift. They need servicing or something. This hotel is ideal if you want to be somewhere fairly quiet and in a fantastic location with sunny weather and you're not too fussed if everything isn't perfect. I hope to return for a 4th visit soon. Thank you all at the Riu Oliva Beach.

Excellent Service , however be aware that i purchased through trip.com the hotel did try to charge me an extra £100 euros , because the deal i paid for wasn’t the price set by the hotel, however after the Receptionist spoke to the manager , they honoured the price i paid , all in all from start to finish took about 20 mins , the Room with a sea view was absolutely stunning, i thought the room had no electric , however a quick pop to the desk explained that the key card you use to get into the room goes into a slot in the entrance way to turn it on , ( quick suggestion to the hotel maybe explain this when you give out the room cards ) Having stayed in a different hotel previously i didn’t know what to expect , i’m happy to say i will be back , its at least 2/3 minutes walk to the beach , has disabled access which is great , lifts are in the lobby to allow higher floors, they have a chill out zone thats open from 9am which has rooftop jacuzzi’s ,sauna and stunning views over the sea , it also has two pools one inside the complex and another outside, The breakfast while inconvenient at times having to go downstairs to eat, ( they do have room service however at €10 was not something i wanted to pay personally it was a nice touch though ) was plentiful to say the least they had a large variety to cater to everyone . The receptionist were brilliant even with a slight language barrier , some are multilingual in any event , my advice learn some words in Spanish helps a lot ! The Room itself was absolutely spotlessly cleaned , fresh towels and bedding changed daily by the cleaners , with little heart chocolate’s was a nice surprise one slight issue for me unless you want to be woke up at 8/9am with the drinks bar i would fully use the do not disturb sign , The hotel has a massage and therapy i used the 2 hour service and both the husband and wife are an excellent edition to the hotel , they cater to a range of injuries , we even joked that my back was as hard as wood , they worked in tandem and gave one of the best massages i have ever had and i’ve had quite a few over the years. There are quite a few places to eat , however the restaurant which is about 1 minute walk from the hotel has the most amazing staff and the food is great, the prices are reasonable to. Now i know this is an adult only hotel so i was expecting the hotel to be loud in the evenings until the early hours , and while this was at the end of June 2024 i heard little in the way of noise passed 1am. Being the night owl having the sea view and listening to the sound of the waves at 1/2/3 am in the morning is the most peaceful i have felt , thank-you Ezra Mar for the Wonderful Memories. All in all it was an Excellent stay , I Will be back thats for sure , Thanks to all the cleaners and staff at the hotel , what a pleasurable experience.

We stayed 4 nights at the hotel and as a party of 5 we shared 2 rooms. This is a fairly small resort and everywhere is meticulously clean. All the rooms face inwards towards the pool area in the centre of the hotel. The junior suite rooms were very spacious with a separate area for the double sofa bed and two single beds pushed together in the main room. Plug sockets with build in USB sockets came in handy along with a free to use safe. Food in the main restaurant is nice, not as large a selection as some buffets we've been to but ample for the size of the resort and we always found something. Some reviews have mentioned food being not on the warm side but we didn't have issue and no different to any other hotels. We ate one evening in the premium restaurant as it was included for one night. It's a sort of hybrid buffet and cooked to order service where you can choose food off a buffet or have steak, salmon and pasta cooked for you. It's certainly less busy in this restaurant and makes a nice change to have a more leisurely dinner. There is an infinity pool that wasn't included in our package (but is for some) that was 10 euros a day and we visited it once. Nice views and worth a trip but definitely quieter than the main pool. No issues finding sunbeds on any days. Best of all though was the entertainment, with the brilliant Gino constantly encouraging us to get involved with games during the day and then somehow managing to get us involved in the nighttime entertainment. Gino and the rest of the team gave us some fond memories to look back on. Overall a great hotel, clean with friendly staff. Small and quiet if you want relaxation or fun if you feel like joining in!

We booked last minute and came for a week with our 9 year old. Hotel is clean and the food was average all inclusive type. Our son loved all the kids activities in the pool and enjoyed kids disco. We had a lovely week all in all. We asked for a room facing the activity pool and were given one which was perfect. Only negatives were, some of the staff in the bar by the activity pool were rude. Rolling their eyes when you ordered. Also, I asked if there was a room for me to shower at 3pm before we left for the airport. I was told I’d have to pay. 10 euros per adult and 5 euros per child….for a shower. I eventually paid for myself and my child and the shower room was disgusting. Very old. Bath and shower were dirty and stained. Most hotels have a shower room which is available for use with no charge. I was surprised Alua charges so much for a shower in such a terrible room. Complete rip off. I also had to explain to the lady at reception that my husband didn’t want a shower and was told I’d have to pay for him in case I snuck him in, the lady eventually allowed me to pay for just the two of us. I would return here none the less and it was lovely to have some sun

Room - Junior Suite I was looking forward to spending some time in the garden which had a balinese bed sun longer. I contacted the hotel 6 weeks prior to our stay and requested a sunny aspect, which they said they would accommodate, however our garden got no sun at all throughout the course of the day. The Junior Suites opposite got the sun all day, so it's 50/50 as to whether you'll get a room with any sunshine. Requested another room but was told the hotel was full. The garden itself was fine, though it wasn't appealing to sit out in the the shade in December. We spent most of our time outside if the hotel for this reason as were not ones to sit around a busy pool all day. The room itself was basic and in need of some tlc. Definitely not a 4 star as advertised on their website. However the cockroaches were the real low point. My daughter put her shoes on and a minute or two later took one off as she felt something inside, and a cockroach fell out! There was also a cockroach in a suitcase (that was kept off the ground for the duration of our stay) and climbed up my arm when I was packing! My daughter saw one in her bed and refused to go back to sleep in it after we made sure it was gone. We found around 12 cockroaches in our room over the course of our 6 night stay. Food - It's a standard buffet style restaurant. Plenty of choice, nothing amazing but you'll always find something to eat, though it was never hot. The chef cooking the omelettes on a morning has to be the most miserable man I've come into contact with. Entertainment - we watched one show and decided not to watch any more. The kids enjoyed the floating thing in the pool that you had to run across though. We didn't bother with the kids club. Beach - 5/10 minute walk and lovely calm, clear water, safe for the kids to play in. We did the glass bottom boat, saw barracuda and manta rays amongst many other fish. The kids did the inflatable water park. The 9 year old loved it. The 7 year old, not so much. They both enjoyed the sea lion experience at the marina too. Mini golf at the Barcelo hotel was also good fun. Restaurants - there are plenty within close proximity to the hotel. Many were British style cafe/pubs aren't our thing. But we did eat at the restaurant on the marina a few times which is part of the Barcelo hotel. The food was excellent. We were half board at our hotel, but ate out for most meals after a few times in the hotel restaurant. All in all, I wouldn't return to Broncemar Suites.
