Don’t stay here in summer it’s absolute hell. It doesn’t have any working air con regardless of what they say and the room is 28-30c at night! The hotel owners need to spend a few million euros overhauling the entire system and it’s obvious they won’t ever do that
Sadly because of this the front desk staff bare the brunt of complaints therefore creating a toxic work environment the room itself is nice but sadly would never book again during summer months
Nice hotel near the Lanxess Arena. We stayed there for the EHF FINAL4 2026, as did many other handball fans. The relaxation in the pool and sauna was great, but the only downside was that once you're outside the sauna (for a cool-down), you can't get back in unless you prop the door open. That's inconvenient when it's cold and there's no one around to open the door for you.
My stay at Essential by Dorint Köln-Junkersdorf was quite good overall. Here's a brief summary for your reference:
Room Environment: The room was spacious and bright with excellent natural light, and clean and tidy. The bed was a comfortable firmness, and the bathroom had a separate shower and toilet, which was convenient.
Dining Experience: The breakfast had a variety of choices, Western-style, including stir-fried vegetables and hot dishes!
Service Attitude: The front desk staff were friendly and polite, and the check-in/check-out process was quick!
Cons: We only checked in and checked in to park and unload our luggage, and the front desk said the parking lot downstairs was outsourced, and we were charged 7 euros for parking for over an hour!!!!! Later, we noticed that parking on the nearby street was free.
Free water was only provided for check-in guests, but the amount was reduced~~~ It used to be a large bottle.
