A mixed bag of a hotel. It is a lovely building, very central with nice rooms. We stayed half board and the food is great but the restaurant atmosphere is not. The staff are generally nice people but they are very stressed and off-hand, bordering on rude. We saw a lot of people being treated very poorly and it spoiled the experience. Also be aware that if you stay halfboard, even though you are spending a lot of money with the hotel you are not permitted to eat on the terrace. The rooms were very hot especially as they have a fridge which is like a radiator being on in hot weather. Personally we wouldn't choose to stay here again.

The location in Oberammergau was extremely convenient. It was just far enough away from the city center but also close walking distance to just about anything (even the local Lidl, etc.). The hotel grounds were very nice and the staff were kind and helpful, the breakfast was very nice traditional German+ (English hot options). We stayed in one of their Family Rooms (entry foyer, living area, 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms w/ master that included tub, full shower, dry sauna; master bedroom had dual vented skylights ) - the room was amazing! It was as described on the booking site and the pictures were very accurate, but it also had additional balcony space, an extra bathroom (with shower), and a shower in the main bath that we didn't expect. There were also multiple closets for clothes storage for a longer stay. Not a critique, but for those that are used to air conditioning - be aware that the room(s) do not have air conditioning - this is pretty typical in most of Germany, let alone the Bavarian Alps. This was not an issue for us as it was very pleasant weather (both day and night). We were able to keep the balcony doors open for good air flow, but in very hot weather a fan (or fans) would be welcome in the rooms to keep air flow through the spacious room! Looking back at our overall trip - had we known a bit more we probably would have shortened our stay in Munich to stay at the Aktiv Landhotel Bold additional nights and taken in the surrounding areas more and it would have been wonderful!

Day 13 (of 20) of Our2022EuroAdventure from Budapest, cruise along the Donau, and overland through Bayerische then Paris. Wish we spend more than one night (of a guided trip) at Blaue Gams! Here for the Leidenschaftsspiel and all its historical/spiritual significance. The location is ideal, almost off the beaten path. Cannot overstate the extraordinary vistas from our lanai (balcony). Watching the small town below wake up to a new day as we prepared to depart was quite memorable. The hotel serves a delicious breakfast and coffees to suit every international taste — in a dining room where strangers can mingle and share stories; even as they rushed to move on to the next adventure. Appreciated the cozy rustic feel of the place. Will certainly go out of way to stay here on the next trek. Hoagland recommended. Check it out.

Ettal as an area doesn’t have a lot to offer. We wanted to go up the tallest mountain in Germany and this was a convenient stop over hotel for that purpose. as the drive to the mountain wasn’t far. The hotel is fairly large but rather dated inside. The young lady on reception was cheerful and her English wasn’t too bad and she tried to help us. However, on the first night we ate in their restaurant and the servers spoke no English, no menus in English and were fairly unhelpful The food was pretty average. The hotel has a small bar near reception but everyone seems to drink outside the front of the hotel where the public can come in also. The room was big and comfortable but the whole atmosphere of the hotel is it needs a refurbish.

Wir wollten zum Geburtstag meiner Frau auf dem Hörnle wandern gehen. Da unsere frühere Pension (schräg gegenüber) nur noch Wohnungen bzw. Zimmer ohne Frühstück anbietet, habe wir uns für dieses 4-Sterne Hotel entschieden und 10 Tage vorher ohne Storno-Möglichkeit gebucht. Nicht nur ist Preisunterschied von 114 Euro zwischen 3 Tage ohne gegenüber der mit Storno-Möglichkeit sehr hoch, sondern man muss spätestens 3 Tage vorher stornieren. Das Hotel will offenbar eine Wetter unabhängige, gesicherte Auslastung erreichen. Es wird überwiegend als Tagungshotel oder von Busreiseunternehmen gebucht, deren Gäste man erfreulicherweise weder um 9 Uhr beim Frühstücksbuffet noch im Schwimmbad antrifft. Das Wetter hatte sich kurzfristig verschlechtert, so dass wir nicht wandern gehen konnten. Da das Hotel über ein großes, beheiztes Hallenschwimmbad sowie zwei Saunen verfügt, sind wir trotzdem hingefahren. Unser Zimmer mit Balkon war groß, sauber und ließ keine Wünsche hinsichtlich der Ausstattung offen. Auf Geschäftsreisen in 4-Sterne Hotels schon bessere Frühstückbuffets genossen, z.B. mit Tageszeitung, mehr Trockenfrüchte zum Müsli und Auswahl an frischem Obst. In Erinnerung bleibt die Sauberkeit und die Freundlichkeit vom Personal!
