Service is too notch. I never found any hotel in China where all the staff have service mind like this place especially the front desk and breakfast staff who named “Rain”, he’s very attentive and very polite. I’ll definitely come back here again when I come to Beijing.

Impressive looking building from the outside but a really slow check in. They had 4-5 staff members yet everything took longer than I’d expect. The room was basic and, for the price, underwhelming. In addition, the walls are marked and scuffed. One part of the wall had food stains. The carpet is stained. When we went to go to bed we found the linen was dirty. There were stains on both the duvet and the bed sheet! We called down for reception and they said sorry then sent a maid to change the duvet. I felt like good customer service would include at least having someone from customer service/reception come to check on us and the room, or calling us to check, or making a note to ask at check out. No follow up.
Apart from this the room is a good size and felt spacious with a desk, sofa and large double bed. The bathroom also had 2 sinks and ample space for your things. The cupboards were also large with lots of hangers etc. There is a full ironing board. I was disappointed for the price (over ¥2000 a night) that even their basic rooms don’t have a coffee machine (like Nespresso etc). This seems to be standard in most hotels at this price range these days. Just instant coffee. As part of the price, the hotel included “free mini bar” which was just 1 can of coke, sprite and Fanta. All full sugar, no zero/diet. Only one side of the bed has plug socks for charging. Otherwise, there is a socket under the desk. The slippers constantly stuck to the tiled floor area which meant squeaky/sticky sounds as you walk around. I’m not sure if it was just the slippers or the floor coating but it was pretty irritating.
The breakfast was good with a range of choices including pancakes, waffles, different types of bread, omelette/egg station, noodles, porridge etc as well as fried vegetables, salad, fruit and sausages etc. Lots of coffee machines dotted around the canteen.
Location good if you want to go to the lake area and surrounds. There isn’t much walkable so to really take advantage you need a car , either a Didi or your own. You can rent bikes but anyone serious brings their own and cycles round the area. There are local restaurants about 1-2k away which is walkable. We had some ok local food for a good price. Disappointed not to find a modern cafe anywhere nearby, including the hotel. The coffee in the hotel was only the push button kind, like at breakfast buffets. No real cafe.
Overall, I wouldn’t recommend the hotel and wouldn’t go back.

Staying at the Yanqi Hotel was to have a holiday feeling, a five-star hotel used to greet the national leadership level, the service is even 10 times worse than the service of a small hotel in Beijing's courtyard.
When we got off the bus, the hotel attendant just watched us drive, watched us move our own luggage, came over to help without any help, and pushed our luggage into the hotel lobby by ourselves. At check-in, basically no hotel information was provided, even the place to eat the breakfast meal, how many restaurants, had to be asked to answer. When booking the hotel there is a shooting service, are my inquiry, the front desk only answer how to make the reservation.
Entered the room, felt very hot, so asked someone to come over to adjust, the first defense department staff came over, told me that it can not be adjusted, because they are central air conditioning, and told me all five-star are central air conditioning😤 Then the TV remote control can not turn on, later he helped me turn on, said just poor contact! He also called another engineering department staff over, the engineering staff basically entered the room without saying hello to me, he stepped into my room wearing construction site shoes, the whole process was very rude, just said, the air conditioner can not be adjusted, is like this!
Dinner at a Chinese restaurant, the dishes tasted good, just when eating, felt the arm bowl pricked, a check, it turned out that the bowl is cracked, so I changed the bowl myself!
After dinner, I wandered around the lobby and found a feedback box, so we at the front desk, did you have any feedback?
Back in the room, the TV remote did not work, so had to call him again to ask someone to come over,. Suddenly the phone in the room rang. Finally he came over to handle it personally and I asked him how your hotel trains its employees, not even a three-star hotel! Preferably he changed our rooms and arranged a two-hour delayed check-out.

Great experience. Service was perfect. Yanqi Lake Boutique Hotels, managed by Kempinski are impeccable. My family stayed two nights. I've booked two rooms. One single bed and one twin beds room. Rooms were modern, clean and spacious. Clean sheets and comfortable beds. I was surprised how big and clean rooms where. Toilets were clean and specious. What you see on the pictures is what you get. More than I’ve expected. Food was perfect. We had buffet breakfast and we could choose between western food and Chinese food. For diner we eat at the restaurant and the food we ordered was delicious. Lots of things to do around. You can visit Hongluo Temple, Mutianyu Great Wall or you can walk around hotel area and see the Yanqi Pagoda or visit International Conference Center (APEC and Belt and Road Initiative conferences were held there, and it was nice experience to visit the place where most powerful leaders in the world seated and planed the future of the world). All in all, great experience. Special thanks to Shirley Le, duty manager and to June Jian for the warm reception and their hospitality. If you want to relax and clear your mind and body I recommend Yanqi Lake Boutique Hotels, managed by Kempinski.
