The all-inclusive price is particularly refreshing. You can eat or drink whenever you want. However, the hotel is relatively old and the swimming pool closes early, only at 7 or 8 p.m.
Amangalla lies within the ramparts of Sri Lanka’s 17th-century Galle Fort, a Unesco World Heritage Site. Offering views of the Fort and harbour on one side and the hotel’s lush gardens and swimming pool on the other, the historic residence, which has welcomed guests for over 150 years, presents lofty-ceilinged suites, elegant dining and a tranquil Spa complete with Hydrotherapy Suites.
Amangalla offers guests a sublime taste of International cuisine as well as Sri Lanka’s legendary flavours in a host of atmospheric settings - from candlelit dining in the Dining Room to the indulgence of afternoon teas on the sunny veranda and long lazy lunches by the pool.
The ramparts of Galle Fort hold within a bustling time capsule – narrow streets lined with old houses, churches, boutiques and restaurants displaying their Dutch and British colonial heritage. Simply step off Amangalla’s veranda to explore this world, or venture farther afield with an Aman guide to discover the region’s temples, beaches and blue whales on personalised journeys.
Reflecting Galle Fort’s rich colonial legacy, Amangalla Rooms, Chambers and Suites feature private bathrooms with separate bathtubs and showers. Conveniences include safes and desks, and housekeeping is provided daily. Complimentary wireless internet access is available to keep you connected.

Departed for Sri Lanka on September 28, 2023, and checked into the Amangalla Hotel in Galle Fort. It was the sixth Aman hotel to check in. It felt great. Amangalla was built in the 17th century. It was formerly a military command in the Netherlands. It later became the first hotel in Sri Lanka. It was acquired by the Aman Group in 1995. The hotel is not big, but it is well-equipped with swimming pools, massage pools, yoga rooms, etc. , you can experience local shaving services and foot massages.
Amangalla is the smallest Aman I have ever stayed in. It is in the middle of the ancient city of Galle and a 10-minute walk from the lighthouse. The surrounding area is very convenient for eating, drinking and entertainment. There is the Tuna and the Crab restaurant, which is a brother restaurant of the one-Michelin-star restaurant in Colombo. If you have enough money, you can try it.
Be sure to choose his tea plantation tour, which will also take you to see the sea turtle hatching base and stilt fishing. It was very interesting. Although I fell off and stepped on a rock while fishing on stilts and was injured, I gained interesting photos and a rare life experience. The ancient city of Galle is also worth visiting. Amangalla can arrange cars and tour guides. The hotel is right in the center of the ancient city. The location is good and it is very convenient to go everywhere. Although I fell into the sea while fishing on stilts and cut my feet. All in all, it was still a very interesting experience.
The two Amans in Sri Lanka are different from the ones we stayed in before. They are far away from Colombo and do not provide free airport pick-up services. The airport pick-up fee for the five of us was about US$400 in a large amanganla. It should be noted that if two Aman activities are booked for consecutive days, they generally need to be booked from the official website, not Ctrip agents.

Relax at the full-service spa, where you can enjoy massages. If you're looking for recreational opportunities, you'll find an outdoor pool, a sauna, and a fitness center. Additional amenities at this hotel include complimentary wireless internet access, concierge services, and barbecue grills.

We visited during off-season, so there were very few other guests. The first morning we had an unusual ”set” breakfast, which was understandable as no buffet was offered when there were so few guests. Water pressure/temperature was unstable and there was a weird pulsating noise in the bathroom. On the positive side, the staff were very nice, friendly, and helpful. It's a lovely estate in absolute terms and stunning in relative terms. Very near the trendy fort area, which is worth a visit. Overall pleased.

This hotel is the most impressive and satisfying one in the entire Sri Lankan itinerary. It completely exceeded expectations and surpassed the other two heritage hotels in my heart. The hotel has only 4 rooms with English-style butler service. It is very quiet and can provide better services. You can choose the breakfast you want according to your own taste (there are local style, Western European style and various options). You can tell the housekeeper the meal time and food the day before, and the next morning will be specially made for you and delivered to the room or in the room. The open-air dining bar at the entrance, anyway, the overall service is butler-style, plus the overall decoration style, this kind of style has only been seen in British dramas before, I really love this kind of place, if it is not for the next day, I really want to If you stay for a few more days, Galle itself is a bit similar to Gulangyu Island in China. It is very suitable for a leisurely vacation, and this kind of butler service is really relaxing.

We stayed here in June when it’s low season so it’s not crowded. Staff was super friendly and the pool size is huge facing the sea. In June the waves are really rough so can’t go swim in the ocean. Breakfast and Dinner was amazing, hotel restaurant manager and staff’s service was exceptional. Our room was facing the sea so we get to wake up seeing the ocean. Room was very clean, the only thing is there are lots of spider babies around the sink and closet, also some tiny ants around, everything else is really good. We will definitely come again!!

I was very satisfied with the Lunuganka Manor experience beyond my expectations! At the beginning of the booking, I was attracted by the design of Bava, after all, it was a decades-old building, and some rooms were converted from other spaces, so I had a little concern for its comfort as a hotel. However, after the stay, these concerns were found to be completely redundant.
As an iconic attraction in southern Sri Lanka, Lunuganka Manor is not only the former residence of renowned architect Jeffrey Bawa, but also a private garden that combines unique architecture with natural beauty. I chose the glass house mainly because of my personal residence, hoping that the room size is moderate and not too spacious. However, after visiting the other rooms in the manor, I was pleasantly surprised to find that the glass house I chose was one of the most desirable residences in the whole manor.
The glass house design cleverly uses natural light to create a bright and transparent sense of space. The walls of the room are almost entirely made of glass, which not only makes the interior and exterior landscapes perfectly connected, but also makes people feel close to nature. In the morning, when the first ray of sunlight gently shines into the room, it feels like awakening in the arms of nature. Although the room is mainly made of glass, there is no expected high temperature or poor sound insulation. Instead, the environment here is unusually quiet, providing me with an ideal place to rest. The design of the glass house is simple and stylish, focusing on practicality and comfort, which perfectly reflects the design concept of Bava - the building and the surrounding environment are harmoniously symbiotic, creating a peaceful and peaceful atmosphere. I was worried that natural light would affect sleep, but I experienced a very comfortable night in the glass house. The bed was extremely comfortable and I enjoyed a good quality of sleep. When I left, I deeply regretted not being able to stay here for a few more days.

Hopefully this version will convey your love for Lunuganka more clearly.

The hotel is still relatively beautiful, the service is very warm, the room is large, the bed is relatively high, the lady may be slightly troublesome, but the hotel as a whole is still very beautiful, it is recommended, the location is better, the location is good, the location is not in the ancient city, because the ancient city is not big

Perfect
JJD75A little hidden gem we found to break up our trip between Tangalle and the airport. It’s off the beaten track, we came in via train and caught an Uber to the accomodation. We were upgraded to a larger suite on the top floor with stunning views.
The hotel was fantastic, set on magnificent grounds, the unassuming exterior descends into a modern accommodation block. Amazing views of the lake, we opted to eat our meals on the balcony soaking it all in with excellent room service, tasty breakfast and a bar / restaurant downstairs. We enjoyed the hospitality and the price point represents very good value for money. Great pool and outdoor space to relax in.
Absolutely perfect for a stop over as you venture through this wonderful country.
JJIANLINGThe house is very high-class and simple, and the natural ecological environment makes people feel comfortable. Just prepare the anti-mosquito liquid and close the door easily. The overall design of the house designed by the landlord is artistic and the details are attentive, clean and refreshing, especially the open open-air bathroom is impressive! After six days of fatigue, I took a super refreshing bath, refreshing! The landlord patiently and meticulously asked each of us about our breakfast preferences, and enjoyed a very rich and delicious breakfast by the blue swimming pool and the monkey swinging tree! Everyone even has a carefully fried double egg! Great stay experience!
GGuest UserAgnus Unawatuna is a little up into the hills, but the trip up is so worth it. The place is serene and the view is breathtaking; you get a top-down view of the ocean in all its glory, and you can even enjoy the view of the famous Galle Fort and Lighthouse from a distance. Service and amenities are amazing, and facilities are modern. Rooms are clean and well-equipped. It was a wonderful experience and the perfect place for a personal retreat! Would definitely come again if I have the chance, and have already recommended this place to some friends! Thank you!
ЗЗеVery friendly host and his staff. The location is good. A really beautiful villa with all amenities. The best breakfast we had in Sri Lanka (we had 9 hotels). The pool is amazing. The hotel staff swept and cleaned the area every day. But the floor in the room was a bit dusty. Slow breakfast service. My advice is to serve breakfast indoors so that the guests are not bitten by mosquitoes. Thank you so much for your hospitality! I definitely recommend this villa to all travelers.
GGuest UserThe hotel is in a very good location. It takes only ten minutes to walk to the ancient city wall and the beach. The room is large, clean and sanitary, especially the bathroom, which has a bathtub and complete facilities. The room we booked has a large bed and a small bed. The problem with the room is that the air conditioner is facing the large bed, which is very uncomfortable. The small bed is in the attic, so the cold wind can't get through and it's a bit stuffy. The large bed is very high. I have to jump to get in and out of the bed with my height of 172cm. If a child sleeps, there is a hidden danger. The service is very good overall. The problem lies in breakfast. Our group of 6 people had to leave early and had ordered the required varieties in advance the day before, so we arrived at the restaurant on time at 7:30 in the morning to prepare for the meal. The waiter asked enthusiastically whether coffee and tea should be served first, and we agreed. Another group of people arrived at the restaurant 5 minutes later. After waiting for 20 minutes, our meals started to be served one after another, and we were served alternately with the group of people who came later. At 8:10, our meals were not served yet. We said that we were running out of time and hoped that coffee and tea would be served first so that we could drink them and leave. When we had to leave at 8:25, there was only tea, unfortunately, no coffee. Therefore, the breakfast experience diluted the perfect experience before breakfast. I hope the hotel can improve it.
TTuomaxixingThe location is very good, close to the city wall on the west side of the old town of Galle fort. The hotel building itself was originally meant to be a barracks, which was said to have been used as a post office, and is now a hotel but the owner cannot change the original structure.
The hotel has two towers in the north and south, each with a terrace. The terrace of the North Tower belongs to the private room. We booked this one. The room is not big and suitable for two people, but this terrace is great, overlooking the West Coast and the nearby city walls, forts, and lively neighborhoods. Sitting on the terrace for a while early in the morning and night, the small wind blowing in the Indian Ocean, comfortable.
The other rooms on the third floor of the hotel are larger and can overlook the West Coast through the corridor. The yard on the ground floor is full of green plants, the mottled courtyard wall tells his history, and the blue-and-white decoration is a bit Mediterranean. It feels like living in a museum.
We took the children, the store gave us a free upgrade to a larger room type, but we still chose a small room with a terrace. The service is good, basically responsive. On the day I left, I had already checked out. I was hanging out in the old city. I was catching up with the heavy rain. I got a shower. I went back to the hotel owner and immediately gave us clean towels and asked to open a room to change clothes for us.
The richness of the breakfast exceeded expectations. Fresh fruits, various fried eggs, staple foods, drinks and yogurt, we ordered more 😅 and then couldn't eat it, and it became a simple lunch at noon.
Interesting travel experience, seems to be in the Mediterranean town.
FFred ConcklinWonderful place with a lush garden in Unawatuna area in the main tourist road. They let us for an early checkin so we didn’t have to wait in the lobby area. Room was spacious with modern furniture and included a minibar. Air conditioner worked perfectly. Bed was comfy. Bathroom was spacious. Hot water worked perfectly. Modern fixtures too. Green villa was close to all the main attractions. Highly recommended for a calm, quiet, comfortable stay in Unawatuna area.
GGuest UserWe can not say enough good things about our stay at this beautiful boutique hotel. The entire staff was welcoming and attentive to details. We arrived at 3:00am and the hotel had prepared some fruit and sandwiches for our arrival. My wife is celiac and the staff did an amazing job ensuring there were food options available for her. They even prepared traditional Sri Lankan food for us to try. The beach club gets very busy during the day but we still felt like the only guests there. This place has a great island vibe with music and different entertainment daily. We will definitely be returning before the end of our trip.
GGuest UserWe were supposed to stay her for two nights but added another to our itinerary. It's a relaxing and beautiful place for families and friends. The rooms are clean and spacious. Housecleaning is also calling to check if anything is needed . The restaurant has a variety of foods from around the world. The onsite spa has reasonably priced packages and the turtle sanctuary has many sea life to look at.
GGuest UserThis was a beautiful hotel. The location is great because it is inside the Galle Fort. The staff was very friendly and the room was nice. There was air conditioning and a fan. The shower drain was a bit slow which caused the water to overflow a little. We only stayed here one night, but overall a lovely stay. Highly recommend.
