Vientiane Hotels with Bars

As someone who frequently travels to Southeast Asia for business, I've stayed in many local hotels, most of which were traditional or renovated old properties, and the experience was usually just mediocre. This time, I stumbled upon this newly opened HUAZHU City hotel, and it honestly exceeded my expectations. The price is slightly higher compared to China, but it's definitely worth it. The hotel is brand new, the facilities are top-notch, and the room was clean and tidy – perfect for a business trip. What I value most is the sense of security, which is incredibly important when traveling abroad. Plus, the airport shuttle service is a huge relief; no hassle finding a car after landing significantly reduces the stress of a business trip. The overall service is professional and standardized, which is a rare find for those who frequently travel internationally for business. Next time I'm on a business trip here, I'll prioritize staying at this hotel again. I highly recommend it to other business travelers in Southeast Asia.

The location is super convenient, close to everything downtown. The ground floor is a coffee shop, and the floors above are the guesthouse. For the price, which includes breakfast, it's an absolute bargain! It's clean, tidy, and cool. And for breakfast, as pictured, you even get to choose one of three options!

I regret to say that this is by far the worst five-star property in Vientiane. In fact, they should place a disclaimer stating that it is strictly for Chinese guests, as communication is virtually impossible unless you speak Chinese. Despite displaying a five-star plaque, the experience falls egregiously short of that standard. Whenever I spoke in English, staff members would merely glance at me and offer no response at all; some even turned their backs and walked away, as if signaling that they simply do not care to understand English. There was only a single English-speaking staff member at the front desk. Unless she is present, it is best not to utter a word—unless you wish to be met with icy indifference. The male waitstaff at the restaurant readily responded, but only in the most perfunctory manner. When I inquired in English whether an omelet could be made, a staff member nodded, so I placed an order. When I returned five minutes later and found nothing prepared, I brought it up again; he pretended not to hear me before dismissively waving his hand, claiming they had no such thing. It was commonplace to witness guests lying across sofas directly behind breakfast tables while shouting amongst themselves, or strolling shirtless around the food stations. Perhaps because it is one of the newer five-star properties in Vientiane, the room condition itself remains decent. However, the hospitality across the board—from the front desk and restaurant to the cafe—toward guests who do not speak Chinese leaves one utterly speechless. As someone who genuinely appreciates China and has traveled across dozens of major Chinese cities, it is deeply disappointing to encounter such an experience outside the country. A recent local news report in Vientiane even covered an arrest involving a scam syndicate operating out of this hotel. I sincerely hope this establishment will evolve into a five-star hotel that truly honors China's name in Vientiane.

I was initially given a room that reeked of cigarette smoke, but the hotel kindly moved us to a slightly better one. Breakfast was decent. It's run by Chinese owners, and you can exchange money here, which is convenient. There are also a few restaurants nearby, and you can walk to the Mekong Riverfront restaurants in about 20 minutes, which was nice.

The hotel is in a fantastic location with a luxurious atmosphere. The front desk staff speak English very well, and the restaurant team is equally fluent. I really loved how the hotel truly captures an authentic Lao vibe. However, I’d like to note a few things that I feel a five-star hotel should have. No room slippers provided, which I believe are an essential amenity. No bidet spray in the bathroom, which is pretty much a must-have for modern bathrooms. The bed is quite small for a five-star standard. Normally, it should be at least a King-size (6ft), but this was a Queen-size (5ft). Overall, it was still a great experience and not bad at all. I’m still giving it 5 stars.

The room was very clean and the breakfast was great. The staff were also friendly, and there were many Korean restaurants nearby which was even better. There's also a supermarket about 100m away, perfect for buying souvenirs.

Everything about this hotel was great, from the service to the friendliness of the staff. I especially liked that there's a convenience store on the first floor where you can buy Korean food, alcohol, cigarettes, and most daily necessities. The only downside is that it's about a 30-minute drive from the tourist area and Vientiane's main downtown spots. Aside from the location, everything else was top-notch.

The hotel's location is decent, with a Big C supermarket nearby, which is convenient for dining and shopping. However, the breakfast is very mediocre, not living up to its Ctrip 5-diamond rating or its self-proclaimed 4-star Great Wall brand. I'm not sure how hotels outside of China can be rated by domestic Chinese star standards; it clearly seems like a self-awarded brand. There was a power outage in my room in the middle of the night. After dawn at 6 AM, I realized only my room had no power while other areas did. The phone was broken, so I had to walk to the front desk to request a repair. By 8 AM, no one had come to fix it, and the response I received was that the maintenance staff hadn't woken up yet. The room had a strong smell, clearly from long-term smoking. It improved slightly after turning on the air conditioning, but it still felt unpleasant. The hotel's hardware could be on par with a 4-star domestic Chinese hotel, but it's poorly maintained, and the staff's service is subpar, a far cry from the 'Dream South' service slogan. I will definitely not choose this hotel again, nor any other hotel under the 'Dream South' brand.

This hotel is decent. It's a bit far from the night market, but only a 10-15 minute walk to Independence Gate. The service, however, was quite poor. Trip.com guaranteed a late checkout, and I even confirmed it with the front desk beforehand. Yet, when I went to check out, they still insisted on charging me an additional $30. Very disappointing.
