I didn’t expect the place was so near to the kk Times Square and next to imago. Just across and use the bridge. Thus location was very convenient. The rooms are spacious and clean and to enter the floor need card which is safe for woman. The staffs are very friendly and helpful as well and was able to assist and even help in our grab service informing them to come right infront of the hotel. I really love the ambience. And there is also restaurant and convenience store at the same building.

Checked in at the hotel at around 9.30pm. I noticed the air conditiong was kinda hot. But i thought to myself, I’ll give it some time run first. Maybe it’ll get better soon. Then an hour later, it was still hot, so i called operator, and she said she will send someone to our room. Waited about 30 minutes or more, still nobody came. I called the second time, and she said she’ll get someone to our room again. And that’s it, nobody came to our room, to help us with the air conditioning. And we were to tired to wait already. So My 8 month old baby sleept sweating that night and i had to fan him with the note book that they put beside the bed. Upon checkout, I complained to the receptionist and the manager about the incident, and they checked on their system that the issue had been resolved. Which was abvioustly a lie. So the manager said he will investigate the matter and he promised something to me. So i hope he keep his words. I’m a regular here, so i know there was something wrong with the air conditioning. I know the quality of the hotel. So let’s see wether the manager is serious about his words.

Regarded as one of the better hotels in Sandakan, I was left underwhelmed. The rooms are tired and dated and detract from the available facilities such as the pool. The night I was there, they had a visiting dignitary and his security entourage, who had no respect for other guests and it was nearly 2am before I could get to sleep. The biggest disappointment though was on arrival, I was looking forward to a beer by the pool. I ordered a Tiger beer, received a glass and a 320ml can and was charged 25RM!! That's more like higher end International prices, not justifiable in Sandakan in a dated 4 star.

The hotel is new, recently opened. Rooms are spacious and comfortable. The hotel's strongest point is a comfortable and well-designed pool. Unfortunately, this is the end of the pluses. Breakfast - the choice seems to be large, but everything is focused on the Chinese, so a European / American does not have much to eat. It's good that at least there is an egg station. Front desk procedures - even though the hotel was almost empty, we were told to wait three hours for the room. A deposit of RM 200 per day is charged at check-in - cash only, no card guarantee. When checking out, you have to wait at the front desk until the housekeeping checks if you have stolen anything from the room. If you lose the document confirming the deposit - they will not return your money. Finally, probably the most annoying thing - the card scanning system in the elevators - we sometimes spent long minutes trying to press the floor key in the elevator, usually it ended with asking for help from the reception. This is absolutely unacceptable. There is too much to improve here to be able to say that the hotel is worth the price.

The Klagan Regency at 1Borneo Hypermall in Kota Kinabalu is a 4-star hotel that offers a blend of comfort, convenience, and affordability for both leisure and business travelers. Situated approximately 20 minutes from Kota Kinabalu city center, the hotel is directly connected to 1Borneo Hypermall, providing guests with immediate access to over 300 shopping, dining, and entertainment outlets. ⸻ Location & Accessibility The hotel’s location is particularly advantageous for guests with business at Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) or those seeking a stay away from the city’s hustle and bustle. Its integration with 1Borneo Hypermall ensures that shopping and dining options are just steps away. However, some guests have noted that the hotel is relatively distant from Kota Kinabalu’s main attractions, which may require additional travel time. ⸻ Rooms & Comfort Guests frequently commend the spaciousness and cleanliness of the rooms. Many reviews highlight the comfortable beds, ample amenities, and pleasant views from the rooms. However, there have been occasional mentions of maintenance issues, such as air conditioning problems or the need for room refurbishments. ⸻ Dining Experience The hotel’s breakfast offerings receive mixed reviews. While some guests appreciate the variety and taste, including local dishes like “ayam masak kicap,” others feel that the selection is limited and that the replenishment of food items during peak hours could be improved. ⸻ Amenities & Facilities The Klagan Regency boasts a range of facilities, including three swimming pools (indoor, outdoor, and a children’s pool), a fitness center, and direct access to the shopping mall. These amenities cater to both families and business travelers. However, some guests have pointed out that the cleanliness of the pool areas could be enhanced. ⸻ Parking & Transportation Parking has been a consistent concern among guests. The hotel offers limited parking spaces, operating on a first-come, first-served basis. This has led to challenges for guests, especially during peak periods, with some having to seek alternative parking options in the mall, often at additional costs. ⸻ Service & Staff The hotel’s staff receive high praise for their friendliness and professionalism. Guests have highlighted instances where staff members went above and beyond to assist, from accommodating special requests to providing guidance on local attractions. Such positive interactions contribute significantly to the overall guest experience. ⸻ Overall Impression The Klagan Regency at 1Borneo offers a comfortable and convenient stay, especially for those looking to be close to shopping facilities and away from the city’s core. While there are areas for improvement, particularly concerning parking and certain maintenance aspects, the hotel’s strengths in service, room comfort, and location within a major mall make it a viable option for travelers visiting Kota Kinabalu. ⸻ Pros: • Spacious and clean rooms • Direct access to 1Borneo Hypermall • Friendly and accommodating staff • Multiple swimming pools and fitness center Cons: • Limited parking availability • Distance from Kota Kinabalu city center • Occasional maintenance issues in rooms • Breakfast variety could be enhanced ⸻ Rating Summary: • Cleanliness: 8.7/10 • Comfort: 8.7/10 • Location: 8.5/10 • Facilities: 8.6/10 • Staff: 9.1/10 • Value for Money: 8.7/10 • Overall: 8.4/10

There are not many resorts in the mainland. It’s a good compromise for balance a bit of everything. Going to downtown, visit remote places, and his land hopping. The sunset is nice for the hotel. A key point is that you can use this hotel facility + the sport center facilities + the Magellan hotel facilities. Downside. U can’t order food with Grab, as you will need to walk about 10-12 minutes to go take it down the road to the guard spot (third photo). What it could be improved: 1. The SPA price is out of range. 2. Family Night time activities. The only activity/bar is on the top floor which doesn’t allow kid below 18 YO.

My stay at the resort was not as smooth as i hoped, i did have some issues as the resort clearly requires a lot of attention in terms of maintenance. The issues i faced were addressed promptly by Mr Jakil who has the knowledge and competence to address many of the issues the resort is facing. As i have more than 15 years of management experience, i know talent when i see it and i believe Mr Jakil has it and should be given more responsibility and authority in the hotel to raise the quality and standards.

Great
GGuest UserI visited the hotel with my parents, my wife and my daughter. We stayed for four nights, checking in on 3rd May and checked out on the 7th. This is actually my second time visiting this hotel, the first time being 30 years ago, again with my parents. I had great memories as a kid so I was looking forward to this trip. The First night was great, had dinner at Coco Joe's and rested after a long trip. The Second day was fantastic, breakfast and dinner and Cafe Tutu, met a lovely dining lady named Rohana. During the day, we enjoyed the great activities of the Leisure Center. Friendly staff from there made the experience children friendly. And the icing of the dessert - the sunset parade, Jamie loves it. Housekeeping did a surprise heartwarming job, covering the lion doll of my daughter with a little towel on the pillow, very cute and thoughtful move. The Third Day we went out to town so didn't stay much time in the hotel. The Fourth Day, was quite disappointing to be honest. Housekeeping did not arrive in the morning when we were out playing at the pool. I understand as there are many rooms to take care of. We went back to the room to rest between 2-4pm, switch on the ”Do not disturb” button, and somehow housekeeping team arrived so they put a card to say they could not clean as we put up the do not disturb button. Fair enough, but again, there was five hours in the morning which they could clean the room. Leaving the room again at 4pm for activities, I called service center for housekeeping, switched off the ”Do not disturb” button and went out. We returned at 7:45pm, still there was no housekeeping. Frustrated, I called the service center again requesting for housekeeping, they replied they will check and follow up with housekeeping. Half an hour later, still no one turned up. Extremely irritated, I called service center for housekeeping again. This time, housekeeping finally arrived but our whole family were waiting for clean towels to have shower. VERY disappointing with the effecitivness of housekeeping and service center on this incident. On that very same day, I discovered a big crockcroach in the toilet, so I do have a big quetion mark on the housekeeping of this hotel. The day was worsen when we had dinner at Coco Joe's, where we wait for nearly an hour (from 6pm to 6:53pm) before we get all our food served. I did complain it to the manager when he came by, which he did apologise and waived our dining fee. Despite my disgrunt towards the long waiting time of the dishes, I would like to give credit on the manager (I think his name is Mr Kan?) in terms of how he managed the complaint. Overall, the experience is mixed. With friendly staff at leisure center + Cafe Tutu, good food but unreasonably long waiting time at Coco Joe's, and disappointing housekeeping after the heartwarming performance on the second day. The hardware of the hotel is great (view, pool design, restaurant seating) but our experience was mainly affected by the staff. On this ocassions, I would like to give commendation to the following staff: Rohana, Majid (both from Cafe Tutu), all staff from Leisure Centre (especially the two ladies and two gentleman hosting water polo and volleyball respectively), and Kan from Coco Joe's on complaint management. Please keep up on the good work you already have, and work hard on things that requires improvement:)

GGuest UserNice hotel with a very good location. Close to Gaya street where there are many eateries and where the wkend market is located. Next to the iconic round about and the sea front. The hotel may have been look dated, but the rooms looks to have been refurbished since last stayed here. Rooms is spacious and bed is comfortable. No issue with cleanliness. Didn't use any of the facilities as we just stayed a night before heading out to KK park. Good value for money.

CCherryCMMWhat’s a pity the seaside was under construction. But the whole place looks really great. Will visit again soon! Here some advices for better experience during stay: 1. Please do maintenance for “drain block up issue”regularly.🧐 2. Should notice the area under construction before customer checking in. 3. Set an intercom for better services.

MMargoinShanghaiThe Gaya is a beautiful hotel, in a beautiful location and the staff are all lovely. The buffet is quite good with a variety of options. The seafood BBQ is delicious!! You have to book the spa and activities 2-3 days in advance to secure a spot. I recommend booking the spa before arrival. If you are a hungry person the all inclusive option may be best as the food at the pool restaurant is soso (in our opinion). Would be lovely to include a reusable beach bag in the rooms.
