Located by the roadside, it's very convenient for transportation and has its own parking lot. It's about 3 kilometers from York Minster, making it ideal for those traveling by car. There's no elevator. Food and beverages are available at the hotel all day.
Excellent stay. The hotel is ideally located if arriving by train. We arrived in the morning and were pleasantly surprised that we were able to check in early as our room was ready. Our room was spacious, clean and comfortable with a roomy walk in shower. The only thing that would have improved it would have been some drawer space as it only has hanging space in the wardrobe. All the staff were helpfull and friendly. We had an evening meal and breakfast during our stay and both were excellent. We also made use of the leisure facilties during our stay. Overall would highly recommend and if we visit York again would definitely stay at The Milner.
1. Check-out Time Is Too Early
In my experience, most hotels—whether five-star establishments or smaller boutique hotels—allow guests to check out around 12:00 noon. However, for such a large hotel with a rich historical background, the check-out time of 10:00 a.m. feels unreasonably early. It is particularly inconvenient for guests who wish to have breakfast, as the kitchen closes at 9:00 a.m., making the entire morning feel rushed. This aspect was disappointing and should be seriously reconsidered.
2. Luggage Storage After Check-out
As a frequent traveler who has stayed in many hotels across different countries, I have never encountered a situation where luggage storage after check-out was not available. Typically, guests are allowed to leave their bags temporarily while exploring the city and return later to collect them. Unfortunately, this was not possible at this hotel.
I found this quite surprising, especially considering the size of the property. As a result, I had to carry a large suitcase while visiting the beach and dining outside, which significantly affected my experience. This policy made me feel that guests are not sufficiently accommodated after check-out, and it was quite disappointing.
3. Room Facilities
I understand and respect that this hotel is nearly 200 years old, and I have no issue with its age or character. Overall, the room facilities were acceptable; however, the water taps could benefit greatly from modernization. The current rotary-style taps are difficult to operate, requiring considerable force to turn on and off. This could be especially challenging for elderly guests.
Additionally, when I entered my room, I noticed that water was already running slightly due to the tap not being fully closed. If the hotel were to gradually replace these taps with more user-friendly designs, it would not only improve guest comfort but also help conserve water in the long run. I believe this would be a worthwhile investment.
Overnight stay in Harrogate, hotel in a great location within easy walking distance of the town centre for shopping, dining etc. We opted of a king room which was very spacious with a huge bed. Breakfast had a great selection of food to choose from and the full English was excellent. Would definitely stay at this hotel again and would highly recommend it to anyone visiting the area.
Facilities: The loft quad room we stayed in was very comfortable
Hygiene: Very clean, snow-white bed sheets
Environment: Very quiet place, but the bus is not convenient
Service: Very good, friendly
We had a lovely time at this hotel. The hotel staff were very friendly and helpful. The rooms were very large, beds very comfy and everywhere clean. There is a good selection of food for breakfast. Enough to suit all needs
If you arrive early or stay later after check out, there is a room to store luggage which we found helpful
The location is brilliant. Only a couple of minutes away from everything. Would highly recommend
My only suggestion would be to have bottled water in the rooms.
Deluxe room was clean but very small. Twin beds were inches apart from each other with no room to move further apart. Meals were only adequate, the main courses we had both chosen from the evening menu weren’t available, sold out by 7pm, so we had to select alternatives, which were less than inspiring. Altogether a rather disappointing experience
This was our second stay at the Cedar Court hotel for a short break in Harrogate. Easy parking either in the hotel car park (for a fee) or on the road outside ( for free) 10 minute walk to the town centre. Lovely hotel with quiet comfortable room. Very dog friendly. Staff were all very helpful and friendly
Good choice at breakfast and sat in the lounge with our dog to eat it. Great value for money and will definitely be back
My experience from entrance to reception was excellent, making me feel instantly at ease. It was clear that all staff members were dedicated and proud of their work, consistently going out of their way to assist guests. The breakfasts were truly wonderful and delicious! I especially want to commend Steve, the breakfast chef, whose outstanding cooking was matched only by his incredibly cheerful smile.
The staff were so very nice, nothing was too much trouble, we arrived with two small dogs and they were treated like royalty, Kim and Maria behind reception and also Maria who served us in the buffet were so nice and even though Maria was off duty (from the buffet in the morning)that evening she helped Kim out when I had a problem with the tv, and they sorted a new one out straight away. We fully intend to use the hotel again next time we are traveling that way. The hotel have exceptional great staff

GGuest UserWe were lucky enough to obtain an upgrade to a suite - and I have to say my wife and I were very impressed with the room. A wonderful four poster bed, the room design was unusual but most appreciated - one of my favourites to have stayed in. The hotel in general gave a good impression with good design features. Do be aware that there is not a lift available for all floors - but we were promptly asked if we needed any assistance.
All interactions with the staff were friendly and professional - and for a couple of requests staff were always willing to work out how to help us.
Breakfast - from a menu with a good selection available and friendly service.
Car parking is available but you are advised to call the hotel to book a space (we did and grateful we did as it was otherwise full). It is not cheap at GBP25 a night - but the nearby public car park is a similar price - that is York car park prices.
BBonniegiftYork is a small historical city, this hotel inherits the city culture. British-style separate yard, tall black gate. Friendly uncle-level reception. The hotel is a bit old, the maintenance is very good, the room has a kettle, the necessary toiletries, the shower open in a variety of ways, and the small snacks are also prepared. Health is OK, the quality of the bed is also good. In short, it is a good experience
GGuest UserNice hotel room with a nice view. Only downside was the parking space was quite small. Finding parking was difficult. Overall, I enjoyed my stay very much.
GGuest UserStayed one night because of the marathon the next day. The staffs were friendly and procedures like Checkin are convenient. Great location, close to the station and hotel. However, the inability of the air conditioner to heat up made the room less comfortable. But I stillI had a good rest here and set a PB in the race the next day, so it was a good stay overall.
LLouise HikkThe hotel is perfectly situated for exploring sights of Harrogate everything very nearby!
From checking in and our room available early with welcome cookies which were warm and amazing to checkout the staff could not be more helpful!
The room was on the third floor clean, tidy and well presented.
The gym and spa facilities were all good and nice to use and relax especially on a Sunday evening!
The breakfast was buffet with a selection of hot and cold options the parcel machine was my favourite fresh pancakes which were delicious!
This hotel is huge but it's well maintained clean tidy and such an enjoyable experience for our anniversary!
GGuest UserDownside was limited parking. We were sent to a nearby car park which offered all day parking. Problem was it ran out at 8am. On returning to the hotel after parking was informed by another guest that there was a QR code at the car park which you could use as part of the hotel? We ended up paying almost £40 for parking for one night stay. Anyone booking please check with reception regards where the QR is
GGuest UserLovely welcome at reception. Really helpful with parking.
The room was large, lovely and warm and had every thing we needed.
The most beautiful setting for breakfast again with friendly and helpful staff. Loved the decorated Christmas trees.
The hotel was in an ideal location for Bettys and the shops.
AAnonymous UserWe stayed here a few years before and really enjoyed our stayed so booked to come back for our anniversary. We were in the opposite side of the building this time and it was still delightful. We really enjoyed the separation of the bathroom from the bedroom with a little study area. The place was starting to get a little run down however. There was no handle on the toilet, and one of the bathroom lights didn’t work. Toilet roll was paper thin and the lights above the bed were perfect height for hitting your head when getting in and out of bed. Other than that though he we enjoyed our stayed. The staff were very welcoming and helpful and the restaurant food was delicious.
GGuest UserThere are many small roads to drive to the hotel. It gets dark early in winter, but fortunately there are not many cars. When you arrive at the hotel, you will feel refreshed. The environment is very good and the hotel layout is also very tasteful. The bed is soft but supportive, and it is comfortable to sleep. The breakfast restaurant has a beautiful view and several breakfast options are available.
