I chose this hotel because of the view, and the location was just as beautiful as I expected. It's only about a 10-minute walk from the station, but you have to walk up a steep hill and over the train tracks to get there, so if you have luggage, I recommend catching a Tuktuk. My plan included breakfast and dinner, and both were delicious. For dinner, the salad and soup were fixed, and I chose my own main course. I was very satisfied with everything. It's a shame that, despite the beautiful view, there are no windows inside the restaurant, so you can't see outside. It's pitch black at night, but you can still have dinner on the balcony outside your room. It's not a modern, pretty hotel, but the service is good, and I'd definitely stay here again.
Good impressions from the hotel. The room is beautiful, hot water, delicious dinner and breakfast. But, because of the nearby construction, the view from the window is not matched to the photos. But, that does not apply to the hotel.
The ventilation window of the bathroom is directly open to the outdoors. After turning on the light at night, mosquitoes will fly in and small geckos will climb in. The room may be because it is too humid and has a smell. However, the hotel's service was very good. We went to Safari the next morning because the off-road vehicle was stuck in the mud and delayed the time. We returned to the hotel late. The hotel also called to ask if we needed to set aside our breakfast.
Our recent stay at Mandara Rosen Yala was a genuinely pleasant experience. The hotel's commitment to cleanliness was evident, and the staff were consistently helpful, making our visit thoroughly enjoyable. Breakfast each morning provided a good start to the day, while the dinner buffet was particularly impressive, offering a fabulous spread that was a highlight of our evenings.
The hotel's serene atmosphere allowed us to relax and recharge, which was much appreciated after exploring the local area. We felt welcomed and valued as guests throughout our stay, thanks to the attentive service.
If our travels bring us back to Kataragama, Mandara Rosen Yala will certainly be our hotel of choice once more. It's an establishment that promises comfort and excellent dining experiences.
The hotel is excellent, everything you need in the room is there, even slippers, furniture and plumbing have been updated. It is located near the street with restaurants, 5 minutes down the hill. Walking to the start of the trail to the nine-arch bridge is about 20 minutes. We had a room with a stunning view, mountains and a waterfall are visible from the window. Good place for the price/quality ratio

TtorinessKeeping in mind this is a 3 star hotel, the positives are the rooms are big with a balcony looking out at amazing views (ours anyway), and the pool is clean and quite big also with amazing views and a concrete elephant water feature!!! The location of the hotel is pretty good too - far enough from other properties to be quiet but close enough to Ella main drag that you can walk in 10-15 minutes or pay a tuk tuk driver double the rate of Colombo to get to and from. The big negative for us was that despite being told upon checking in that the room would be cleaned every day, it was not. And I was told the reason why was that we didn’t hand in our key for it to be done - which seems bizarre after staying in hotels for decades and not being told to or having to hand in a key in order to get a standard daily room clean. The insinuation that it was our fault for not handing in a key (not that we were told to do so on checking in) was extremely irritating. Food was ok but overpriced so we ate elsewhere (lots of options). There were lots of little things in the rooms that could be easily addressed to make them nicer - definitely not having ripped old bath towels, and removing an empty TV bracket from the wall (like a TV used to be there but not anymore - or was it just our room, who knows). All these little things add up to I really think the room rate is too high - but we are here in the high season so maybe that’s just the going rate.
PPurplehaseWe had 2 deluxe double rooms booked. So far so good. On arrival it looked like they didnt know we where coming. I need to mention, we were the only 3 guest in the whole resort. Check in was a bit bumpy, but we managed. After arrival we were asked for sinner, we only had to choices. Rice and curry, or chicken rice.....there are kayaks and a pedal boats available, but they will charge u 3500rs per person for half broken down kayaks even we it never mentioend anything sbout payment. So we didn't go. We took the pedal boat and were still charged. Nice birds around tho. We saw tucans and pelicans but still with no one around they still charged us upon check out. Food was ok, better go for rice and curry. 2500rs per person😜
Breakfast is chicken on toast eith pineapple, no sauce, no water, just 3, pieces of fruit. Chsrged 1500rs
We had own own ssfari booked so can't say much about their service. Upon check out they try to charge 15usd for the single occupancy even tho i booked 2 double rooms. So overall i wouldnt recommend the place, mot sure why all reviews are rhst positve. Pool was murky, **** laying around everywhere and overall i found the olace 20usd cheaper as we paid, just one day before arrival.

AAnonymous UserPros: Quiet and private environment, beautiful scenery, good quality breakfast and room service, good service.
Cons: Arrived around 3pm, and waited for a full hour to check in, almost collapsed. The room has no air conditioning and simple facilities. Open bathroom, don't take a shower at night, it will be cold.

NNadene JamesAmazing! What an amazing find! Food was out of this world. Pool was great and we just loved the sustainability of the place. Growing all the fruit and veg amazing!
GGuest UserOverpriced!
1. No air conditioning, the room is very humid, the bed is cold and wet
2. Integrity hotel construction knocks at the door of the room early in the morning
3. The room is very not soundproof. The hotel and the scenic spot share the road from reception to the room. There is also a traffic jam. Various tuk tuk passing outside the room. It is the horn and the engine roar. Very noisy.
4. No service at all except check-in and check-out
