Excellent hotel! I originally planned to stay at a traditional onsen hotel in Beppu, but I stumbled upon this one, saw great reviews, and decided to give it a try. I was extremely satisfied! The breakfast was the most lavish and delicious I had during my 9-day trip to Japan. It was absolutely divine!
In the evenings, complimentary welcome drinks are offered (alcoholic beverages incur a 1000 yen charge). You can borrow yukata from the front desk. There's a large public bath on the 14th floor, and the rooftop features a terrace pool and a bar, offering stunning night views of Beppu Tower, perfect for photos. Just note, the pool is quite shallow and not really suitable for serious swimmers.
The bathroom layout is well-designed with a separate wet and dry area, and the shower space is very spacious.
Its prime location is another major plus, just a 10-minute walk to JR Beppu Station.
I wholeheartedly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Beppu!

Dinner and breakfast : all food was cold because half of the food (about 4-5 small dishes and main) was placed at my table before i went to the restaurant. The servant pushed me to eat faster as the second half (the rest 4-6 small dishes) was put on table when i just started the first half. Quite disappointing. Supposed dessert shd be served after meal, The servant even placed it when i still had 4-5 dishes not finished. Annoying.
Hot spring : opening hour was acceptable but there was no view to the beautiful scene at all. Quite disappointing too. The bamboo screen was too enclosed, making me just looking the few plants there. When comparing with Naha, there’s only one type of hot spring and was too traditional.
Room : it’s not large as expected.
Location: not far from JR/bus station but away from main street to one and only one spot - the lake
Conclusion : too expensive when considering the bad dining experience . Not very recommended
The atmosphere was very relaxing and chill — perfect for couple and a group getaway. The staff were friendly and very helpful throughout our stay. One little thing - the bathroom door of this room type is somehow translucent sliding door, no lock, which can be a bit uncomfortable when staying with a group. A normal one would offer more privacy. Overall, a great experience!
This was my first time staying here.
All the staff were very kind and I had a very pleasant stay.
The room was clean and I wanted a place with a good view, so I checked the boxes and got a nice room on the top floor ᕷ⋆͛*
There was no noise and I was able to sleep and spend time comfortably ☆
I will definitely stay here again if I have the opportunity ♪♪
The breakfast was also delicious ♪
This is my first overseas trip with my child.
It's old and the facilities are not very good.
I used a double room.
I slept under the quilt because it was a floor, not a bed.
There's a humidifier.
First of all
The rice was delicious.
I made a mistake and had dinner and breakfast.
It was delicious.
After eating, I took a picture.
The attached photo is breakfast.
For the reference, it was good that there was no Korean
It seems that outdoor swimming pools are available in summer.
After arriving at Tianse Station, there will be a special car to take you up the mountain. It is a very quiet Japanese courtyard. There is no time to bathe in one day. We checked in like a special forces soldier in 5 family pools and one public pool. Because it is more primitive, you can't see the scenery outside when bathing at night. It is recommended to bathe during the day. The dinner of Fenghou Beef is average. Maybe the expectation is too high, because the sukiyaki is all mushy in the pot after cooking at one time. It is not wonderful, but the fruit wine ordered is delicious! The breakfast tastes good and it is very comfortable to eat. Finally, the special car takes you back to the station to end this trip. The overall service is very good. The service staff keeps a distance but is polite.
The hotel exceeded our expectations! After arriving at the hotel, we paid a little extra to upgrade to a 46-square-meter sea view room, which is quite luxurious in Japan. The entire hotel is very large, and the service staff are also very enthusiastic. It can be said that if the whole family travels, they can spend a whole day in it. We booked the Sora-kan, and the Sora-yu on the top floor is quite comfortable and not crowded. The hotel's buffet is very rich, and the amusement center is also very interesting. I thought the light show might be a bit rustic, but I didn't expect it to be a surprise. It's simply a low-end Disney 😀. I will choose this hotel next time I come to Beppu!
This Japanese hot spring hotel in Beppu is definitely a good choice for those who like Japanese style. You can also choose a semi-open-air private bath. There are many styles of women's yukatas, choose your favorite. The welcome snacks are also very exquisite, and the service of the store staff is warm. The tatami is thick and does not cause back pain at all. The river opposite the hotel is also a beautiful place for taking photos

The staff is super polite, there is a welcome drink as soon as you check in, you help you carry your luggage and put it in the room, and there is a room tour to introduce all the facilities.
Dinner in a private room, each dish will be introduced to the ingredients, from the first course to dessert was very tasty, super recommended.
The room is clean, spotless and well heated. After private warming there is outdoor indoor, very comfortable.

This was a wonderful stay. After a short tour of Yufuin, the shuttle service I'd requested arrived in front of Yufuin Station. We enjoyed welcome tea in the lounge and were then guided to our accommodation. Having a Korean guest made it even more comfortable. The accommodation was clean and spacious, with everything we needed. The fridge was free of charge, and the coffee was delicious. Think of it as a private, standalone pension. The bathroom and sink were separate, both spacious and comfortable. The hair dryer and curling iron were also provided, which was incredibly convenient. Usually, hotel hair dryers are weak and take a long time to dry, but this one was the best! The manager and staff were all friendly, and I went with my mom and was very satisfied. The photos don't show everything, but this was the best accommodation I've ever stayed in Japan. I'd love to go back with someone special!

KKritThe Hotel, Grand Mercure Beppu Bay Resort and Spa has lots of things to do. I will start at the entrance. At the entrance, there is a helper which brings your bags to a cart. You have to drag your cart to the check in. At the right side, there is a swimming pool. At the left side, there is a store with Claw machines and snacks. When you finish doing the check in, You have to carry the cart in the elevator and up to your room. At the 3 rd floor, there is a playroom. At the underground level, there is an public onsen and changing room. In the 2 floor, there is a big restaurant. I think the food is so good but it closes to fast (9.30). We can walk to 7 but we have to walk down and up a small hill.
GGuest UserExcellent!
Awesome lobby, incredible seaview, great service, competent and very polite staff, good food, room very clean, onsen is great with free branded amenities choices 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻. location is a bit off, fortunately have shuttle.
Special thanks to Harada san 👍🏻👍🏻 helped to arrange smooth transfer from hotel to airport.
Appreciate the hospitality from quite a number of multilingual staff 👏🏻👏🏻. Onsen is great, unlimited free drinks! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻coffee, coke, green tea, etc 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Breakfast is good, value for money, nice to try. Dinner is 90-mins semi buffet, no choice for the set, special arrangement if you don’t eat beef, but take some time. Lots of wine varieties, if you don’t drink alcohol, the dinner price is NOT worth.
My comment: Highly recommended. need to have car, my case is with sudden car break down with no replacement. Grandvrio did a great job!👏🏻👏🏻

GGuest UserThis hotel was truly the highlight of my trip to Japan. Nestled on the hillside, the views from the window are breathtaking, especially from the infinity pool where you can overlook most of Beppu. It gives you a sense of serene detachment from the urban clamor, as if you're uniquely clear-headed amidst a busy world. During our stay, there were occasional showers, and after the rain, the mountains would often become shrouded in mist, making the landscape incredibly dynamic – sometimes clear and picturesque, other times beautifully hazy and ethereal.
The hotel's hot springs (onsen) are another major feature. The male and female baths are separate, ensuring privacy, and each has its own outdoor bath. What's more, the male and female sections switch over daily, so if you stay two nights, you get to experience both unique bath areas. The hotel also provides guests with traditional Japanese yukata robes and geta (wooden clogs).
Regarding transportation, since the hotel is on a hillside, they offer a shuttle bus. However, it's small with limited seating, so reservations are essential. What's fantastic is that if you can't reserve a spot, the hotel *provides a taxi free of charge*. Let me emphasize that: free, free, free! So, the only potential inconvenience of staying here is perfectly addressed.
While the standard breakfast selection is decent, they also have a 'hidden menu' – definitely ask for it!

GGuest UserLocation is extremely close to Yufuyuan station, staff English communication is good, check in is simple, because there is no elevator, staff helped carry luggage to the room, the room is very large and comfortable, and clean, bathtub worthy of praise, but to take a hot spring bath and bake sauna, so did not use.
2286016****I will come to this hotel again: Located halfway up a mountain near Hita City, more than 6,000 plum trees will bloom when winter turns to spring. The hotel is small, with a view at every step. The long corridor, red wooden bridge, and elegant lobby all allow sunlight to be projected as much as possible, and blend with the warm yellow lights in the house, making people feel warm and comfortable, reflecting the intentions of the hotel builders everywhere. The entire hot spring hotel uses plum blossoms as design elements. Qizhe, Orihime, Nangao, Yingjuku, and Ryukyō are five varieties of plums in Japan, which have become the names of beautiful different room types. The hotel's room keys, tables and chairs, window shapes, and room decorations are all inspired by plum blossoms. Nangao and Yingjuku rooms both have their own private hot springs. When taking a hot spring bath, the valley in front of you is sometimes misty, sometimes colorful, and sometimes starry. The various beauties of the Hibiki Valley are unforgettable. The breakfast and dinner included in the hotel are all exquisite Kaiseki cuisine, incorporating local plum characteristics. You can try plum wine of various flavors and ages during meals. If you are not satisfied with the drink, you can buy a few bottles of plum wine from the nearby store and take them home as souvenirs. There is also a non-alcoholic plum juice that is also very delicious. The hotel staff are serious, friendly and helpful, and the pick-up service is very thoughtful.
AAnonymous UserLove this place! Our glamping experience was absolutely wonderful! From the moment we arrived, we were impressed by how well everything was set up. The tent was spacious, cozy, and beautifully furnished, with all the comforts of a hotel room but surrounded by nature.
The location was perfect—nestled in nature with stunning views and just the right amount of seclusion for a peaceful escape. We were thrilled to find a campfire pit for cozy evenings, even though the rain meant we couldn’t use it. The sound of raindrops on the tent was surprisingly relaxing, though!
