The Griffin Inn

When you book country pub/hotels you don't expect 5* service, you expect to experience local life. In the pub there was a definite abundance of that, and we had a lot of fun. The food was not bad and the cask ale excellent. The room was small but ensuite and clean. The issue for me was the heat. Even though the weather was cold n damp the room was boiling hot - in part due to underfloor pipes. I had to open the window and try and lean against the wall to keep cool. I went for breakfast early leaving my partner to sleep. The breakfast was a cold buffet ( cooked breakfast weekends only) and was perfectly fine. The lady on breakfast duty chatted away constantly pushing for me to drag my partner downstairs. We were the only residents so I didn't see the urgency. After breakfast the same lady was knocking on the room door to tell us we should have vacated the room by 10. How early is that! The result being we had to pay £25 as a late checkout fee. Leaving is with the feeling that we weren't guests just an inconvenience.
Nant Ddu Lodge Hotel & Spa

Hey, so I stayed at this hotel for a few nights, three nights to be specific, and it was probably one of the best hotels to stay in if you're visiting Brecon Beacons National Park in south wales. The staff was very friendly and they were accommodating. We had a room on the other side of the hotel where the Internet or Wi-Fi was not great. They moved our room temperature area with good wifi. I liked the room. It was big enough for two people with a single bed. The breakfast was good, and they served you an excellent Welsh breakfast. It could have improved but I think overall, it’s okay. Finally, the hotel is a bit aged but it has a good vibe and a good feeling for the area that it’s not all modern, so I like they’re keeping the old tradition in there. Finally if you are using Vodafone there is no Mobile phone reception at the hotel but I think they told that EE works. .🤓

The White Lion Hotel

A really friendly, busy pub with spotless rooms that were safe and comfortable. We were 2 friends who stayed here whilst walking Glyndwr’s way. All the staff in the pub were very friendly, as indeed were the local community. We were stuck for a taxi on Sunday (note to travellers taxis are impossible to find on Sunday in Mach). So everyone put the feelers out to find a way of getting us to the start of our walk. Luckily a kind local gave us a lift. This pub is a great place to stay, but the people of Machynlleth itself are the real attraction. Thanks White Lion team. X
YHA Brecon Beacons

I'd stayed in a room at YHA Brecon Beacons before and loved it - this was my first experience of a) staying in a land pod and b) staying under covid restrictions. Everything about the 3 night stay far exceeded our expectations. The staff have clearly worked exteremely hard to ensure visitors have a safe and enjoyable time. We received a warm welcome and were given concise guidance on how things operate. The pod and the bathrooms were spotless, the booking system for showers and for takeout meals was efficient and the food was fantastic (as always). The pod itself was brilliant, and although initially it looked small, there is plenty of storage space, the beds are comfortable and the insulation means you get a quiet and warm night's sleep. The firepit was an unexpected pleasure; sitting by the fire, watching the stars was a delight. The location of the hostel is perfect for some very scenic and fairly challenging walking routes without the need to use a car. If you've not been here before, give it a go - it's great value and well worth a visit!
The Swan at Hay

We based ourselves here for three days motorcycling around Wales and couldn’t have picked better! The location is great, and the onsite parking for us was a must have. We had room 16 which was a large twin. The room was immaculately clean and very well presented. Tea, coffee and biscuits were replenished each day as were clean towels. 10/10 for housekeeping. Breakfast was excellent and the guy who served us each morning was friendly and professional. He repeatedly checked we had everything we needed and our ordered arrived quickly and were of excellent quality. We didn’t eat at the Swan in the evenings as there are so many great places to eat in Hay and we wanted to try a few of them. We recommend Tomatitos tapas and the Sunday lunch at the Three Tuns was excellent. I would advise avoiding the Blue Boar which is the nearest pub to the Swan, our experience there was awful. All in all a great hotel in a lovely town. We will definitely be back to the Swan soon.

Nice B&B in the central part of town. Spacious and very clean room with coffee, tea, and TV with many channels. Hosts were very friendly and served a great breakfast.
The Dragon Hotel

Broke journey back from West Wales to avoid Friday night traffic in England. Olde world town, narrow streets and some challenging farm traffic. There is a road to the left just before the hotel with entrance to an adequate car park on right, from which the hotel can be accessed. The rooms are up a couple of flights of narrow stairs and the numbering is a bit confusing. Room was as one would expect of a building of it's age, bed comfortable. Shower was virtually unusable, the control knobs were scarcely functional and I would advise need to be set prior to entry into the bath, due to the very hot hot water supply. Dinner meal was good as was breakfast. There is a very good pub just down the road from the hotel with price of beer reasonable and a friendly publican. If choice here is not to one's liking.
Erris Villa

Family run. Centrally located. Off road parking. Very quiet B&B. Builth Wells Golf Course just a 2 minute drive away. Nice pub called The Greyhound down the road that also does accommodation and pub food. People very friendly in the area and quite a relaxed atmosphere everywhere. The small shopping centre has a variety of shops if you want the odd thing you require. Not recommended if you have mobility problems.
The Royal Oak Hotel, Welshpool, Mid Wales
4.3/5101 Reviews
We needed an overnight stay to break up a long journey. This hotel was in the right place and the price was reasonable for bed and breakfast. The staff were friendly and helpful. The room was comfortable and clean and had nice facilities. Breakfast was pleasant, not the best we have had but certainly acceptable. Just be aware that some of the rooms, and ours was one, that has traffic noise that was less from about 11pm but started again at 0500. So it’s worth asking for a quit room if one is available. Parking was easy to enter and exit and it’s nice and safe, but be aware that the spaces are quite cramped if you are lucky enough to own a larger car it might need some careful parking.
