Wat Phra That Chang Kham

Wat Phra That Chang Kham Worawihan was built by Phraya Phukeng, the ruler of Nan, over 600 years ago. It consists of a large chapel in the Lanna Thai architectural style. The interior is spacious and houses a large principal Buddha image. There are round cement pillars that can be hugged by two people. The relief stucco patterns are 1.50 meters above the floor of the chapel, in a kanokrayoi pattern similar to the patterns of the pillars in the chapel of Wat Phumin. In front, there is a pair of lions standing at the foot of the stairs. Inside the temple, there is also a Sri Lankan-style Chang Kham Chedi, which is tall and decorated with half-body elephant statues all around. It looks like a base supporting 6 elephants on each side, for a total of 24 elephants. This is an art form that Nan received through the Sukhothai Kingdom.
