Luang Pho Uttama Temple (Wat Wang Wiwekharam)

But when you arrive in Sangkhlaburi, the temple that many people must go to and cannot miss is Wat Wang Wiwekharam or as we like to call it, Wat Luang Pho Uttama. Wat Wang Wiwekharam was built by Phra Ratcha Udom Mongkhon (Luang Pho Uttama), a famous Mon monk who gathered Karen, Mon, and Thai people living in Sangkhlaburi District to help build it. Currently, Luang Pho Uttama has passed away (October 18, 2006), but his disciples still keep his remains for people to come and pay homage. Important places in the temple include: The pavilion enshrining the remains of Luang Pho Uttama, which enshrines his remains in a beautiful Mon castle The marble Buddha image shrine Enshrining a 9-ton marble Buddha statue in the Mara-Vijaya posture, or commonly known as “Luang Pho Khao” or “Luang Pho Yok Khao” Buddha Gaya Pagoda was initiated by Luang Pho Uttama in 1978, modeled after the Buddha Gaya Pagoda in India.
